I was at my sister-in-laws home in Ottawa and a great party was going on. I mentioned to an Irish fellow there that I had my Grandfathers Sash and this Irish Fellow immediately sang the song "My Grand -Fathers Sash". Was a great time.

However, it's foolish to dismiss displays of Ulster Scots identity and culture as mere anti-Catholicism or anti-Gaelic sentiment. This will never be my culture, let alone country, but I find the Protestant people of Ulster's veneration of their history admirable. The same is true for the Gaelic Irish people's dedication to their historical legacy, their national heroes, etc. Regardless of the country in question, a people that doesn't honor its past has forfeited a great degree of agency in shaping its future.
