Now let's talk about some EXEs I like that weren't mentioned in the video!
SoniX - Out of all the Sonic.exe concepts I've seen, SoniX really leans into the theme of toying with Sonic's ideals. He messes with Sonic's friends, giving them false hope, and then ends things in a bloody mess. Check out his creator @gigagoku30 on Twitter!
Needlem0use - Needlem0use is amazing. She serves as a complete overhaul of the original Sonic.exe creepypasta and makes the concept actually scary. It takes the form of an analog horror series, and it is some AMAZING stuff! Check it out on the TH-cam channel of the creator, ShutUpJoseph! / @shutupjojo_
Fatal Error - It was VERY tempting to make a section of the video about Fatal Error, but I ultimately refrained because the video was long enough, and some of the things I could've talked about would've been redundant. Fatal Error is awesome. His design is among the sickest I've ever seen. He's more cool than scary, which I'm completely okay with. He really puts the "exe" in Sonic.exe, playing off, well, fatal errors, which is very fitting for the SEGA Genesis.

like everytime i see ".exe" somewhere my mind directly thinks about some entitity being there and killing all the caracters

Fun fact: Hog and Scorched now have an official complete story all in one document! But, Scorched isn't what is said in the video. Scorched is canonically the og Sonic, that has been morphed into a beast after his universe colliding with a rip-off of his world.

Friendly reminder that if you want to make one of these “evil sonics” and you are worried about angry people yelling at you because “Exe’S ArE CrinGE”, just remember that Metal Sonic and Fleetway Super Sonic did it years ago and they get all the praise, so don’t worry about the haters, because if the the two characters I just mentioned made the “evil sonic” thing work YEARS ago, then who says your little blue devil can’t do it too?

I remember this horrific blue boy used to scare the hell out of me when I was a kid. Good times. I had no idea there was a whole community that made their own iterations of him, though. I like the analysis, though. Good on ya, dude. Really broke down what makes each iteration horrifying
I think EYX might be my favorite out of the whole group. The game itself has already had an insane amount of polish and craft, but the design of EYX himself is perfectly twisted what with his lanky, almost skeletal body and his gaping, bloody eye with one of the most horrific pupil dilations I’ve ever seen.
The only key thing missing from Hog is the atmosphere EXE/Faker built. Imo it was so remarkable that I had to write about it. I'm kinda tired at the time of writing it, so sorry for possible spelling/narration mistakes.
When I first played Faker's level, I felt really weird aura from him. He looked the most normal out of every other "Sonic" in the mod. A bit odd, but as you said - little design changes are common for him. I even kinda believed at first that this is real Sonic, that have just gone insane by living in the hell that his world have become. I thought that it was the reason why he sang with BF - because he didn't care anymore. But then - EXE (transformation) happend. And man, what a transition to the next song it was. Just a quick reminder that in Sonic.EXE 2.0 only one song was linked to one sound test code. So it was quite a surprise to see another song after Faker. And you knew it was the real deal now. Everything was in way worse condition than before. Environment was even more lifeless and dreadful. "Sonic" unleashed his true self and didn't masked his intentions anymore. He felt this time untouchable to move. You couldn't just play careless anymore. Every your mistake was deadly in consequences, because of health draining mechanic that made recovering after missing an arrow - impossible. The atmosphere around my first time playing was so tense. I noticed halfway through the song that my health bar couldn't regenarate + I finished it with barely enough of it left. It was amazing
It pained me immensely to not put him in the video, but I had to show respect to what was going on in the real world.

I really don’t understand how you came to the conclusion that Lord X is more “feral,” when Lord X’s main characterization is a mischievous, semi-sadistic trickster that doesn’t particularly understand morality to begin with, and is obsessed with emulating Sonic, with some stories presenting him as a sentient parasite in Sonic’s corpse, and others as a callous intruder in the game’s coding that bends this little world to his warped whims. “Feral” doesn’t really fit. Although this did make me realize how interesting an EXE based on the Werehog could be.
I did mention all that other stuff tho, no?
The feral theme was moreso in reference to his design.
Given his mischievous trickster nature, I'd argue Lord X is "feral" in the sense that he draws a primal, animalistic sense of enjoyment from the thrill of hunting and toying with his victims. Think of him as something akin to Shere Kahn in the Jungle Book; although he carries himself with dignity and grace as the king of the jungle, his hatred of the human race is rooted so deeply into his soul that he has no qualms with sadistically menacing Mowgli -- a child -- before attempting to kill him.

It's crazy how people will take one small idea and flesh it out into it's own self contained, interconnected universe with deep lore and everything. This reminds me of the backrooms and Undertale AUs.
Undertale AUs were fun, but they kinda had the opposite effect of Sonic.exe where they instead made the characters worse. A lot of fans love to treat Sans as edgy or Chara as evil.

@InstaFiz Saying that Undertale AUs are just "Undertale but worse" is like saying that Sonic.EXE is just "Sonic with red eyes." There's so much more to them that you're not giving them credit for. Each AU has its own unique theming and aesthetic, such as UnderSwap switching around the roles of the characters, or OuterTale moving the characters into a space setting. I especially love how you can combine AUs together to create hybrid AU combos such as OuterSwap or SwapFell! Like Sonic.EXE, they may have started out boring or derivative, but they have the potential for some extremely interesting and creative concepts! Especially the combo AUs.
Fun fact: in Sonic 3, there's a pallet glitch in the last boss fight that makes Sonic have pitch black eyes with red dots, this might be the inspiration for the original Sonic.exe

Fun fact: Scorched is actually Sonic's remaining data from the bootleg. Basically Hog is a reverse imposter, for a lack of better words: You're seeing an imposter but it hides secretely to have the real Sonic.

A bit late to the party here, but I wanted to share my two cents on my personal favorite EXE:
Needlem0use is far and away my favorite take on the Sonic.EXE formula, not only because of how well ShutUpJoseph used the analog horror medium to convey horror (seriously, turning the "I AM GOD" line into something genuinely unnerving is impressive in and of itself), but because of how compelling Sarah is as a character compared to the other EXEs. My main problem with a lot of EXEs is that their actual writing tends to be pretty one-note, rarely going beyond "I'm evil because I am!", but Sarah is a genuinely compelling character, to the point where I kinda find myself rooting for her at times. Her dynamic with Luther is really good too, and the latest episodes hinting at something deeper behind everything has me hooked more than any other EXE story ever has.
Of course, nowadays, it's hard to talk about anything EXE-related without bringing up its Friday Night Funkin mod, and Round-A-Bout is one of my favorite songs in the mod. The harmonizing parts are _amazing_, and the vibe fits the character perfectly. The art direction is also great - BF and GF in the Needlem0use style look incredible, and the depictions of Sarah as a puppeteer fits her so well. While it's hard to judge the cancelled Luther song, the bit that was released was amazing, and anyone who knows Adam's music knows that he never misses.

I haven’t found them, but I heard from the sequel vid that people were sharing their EXE concepts around here, so I think I’ll give it a shot. Behold…
*XÙLNUR*
LORE- Xùlnur was once an ancient god of corruption, who based his influence in cold, northern places like Greenland. At some point during his rule, Xùlnur was challenged by a kitsune spirit from the east, named Xanchi. The two engaged in a battle of fire and ice, in which Xùlnur was defeated and cast into a space between realms, which only fueled Xùlnur’s hatred more. Centuries later, Xùlnur escaped into the world again, and decided to amass a following once again, this time, through a certain character’s *buddy…*
APPEARANCE- Xùlnur usually inherits Tails’ body because it reminds him of a wolf. When mimicking Tails, he looks quite normal, aside from the longer muzzle, white markings at the tips of his ears and one tail. In his “halfway” form, Xùlnur is much larger and bulkier, his fur is almost completely white and the fur tufts around his muzzle/ears/tail are replaced with small icicles. He sports a toothy grin and noticeable eyebrows, and his gloves/socks are more fuzzy and brown in appearance. His true form is very muscular and large, roughly 20ft tall. He dons a full Viking outfit, including a cape and skulls on his shoulders. Red icicles protrude from his fingers/toes, as well as his muzzle tufts, ear tips, and chin. His eyes glow a pale blue, and the back of his mouth has human teeth behind the canines. Xùlnur also has a human form which sports goat horns and more icicles on his body.
PERSONALITY- Xùlnur’s personality changes based on whoever he’s possessing (doesn’t apply to mimicking), like a corrupt version of his vessel’s original personality. His own personality is very manic and egotistical, and is meant to portray that his mind is gone. He can be cold and calculating at times, but his madness usually gets the best of him. His voice is like that of Thor from God of War, but deeper and more corrupt.

i personally have been in the sonic.exe community since the start , and i gotta say , i find it amazing to see a bad creepypasta to grow into games that are actually scary at times
My favorite Exe is Sonath from Limited edition: The lost cartridge. I really like how the red-eyed design takes a proper advantage of Sonic's (slightly creepy) character design. Instead of going for the cliché black and red eyes from the original creepypasta.

Funny thing is, the eye design of my own EXE take, Genesis, comes from me misremembering how exactly Sonath's eyes look.
Honestly amazing video liked the explanations for each of the exes mentioned especially hog and scorched one thing I gotta say is I think another thing that adds on to the appeal of sonic exe is actually pulling it like pulling off the concept of making sonic scary and seeing it actually paying off

I love this video because it really encapsulates why people like myself find Sonic.exe appealing. Its a bad story that had a fantastic concept. Plus its nice to see you actually know who owns what and what the interpretations are instead of bastardizing them.

As someone who only grew up with the original creepypasta and fan game I've had a lot of questions about all the new Exe lore and Exes that I've heard about, this is the first video I've seen cover them thoroughly, thank you!
I would love to see you tackle why mario exes are effective not because of design aspects like sonic, but because of the relationship they share with the player, or the tarnishment of mario and luigi's brotherhood
Diablo is a good exe mod. He actually had a good representation of how he would actually react if someone randomly appeared.

i personally have been with the sonic.exe community but had forgotten about it for a couple years and if i hadn't remembered i wouldn't have been able to get gud at drawing so i have a lot to thank to the sonic exe community
One of my favorite recent interpretations of X is Diablo from the Sonic.exe rerun fnf mod. He's much less of a "scary" character, but he still retains his cockiness and design, and even has his own distinct trademark in the form of a skull mask. Very cool interpretation.
However, no one will ever top Lord X. By far my favorite Sonic.exe interpretations. Much better story, and much more fitting character, and he even shares a lot of similarities to Sonic that make him even more disturbing when you think about it.

Really sorry about that. EXE was supposed to be where Hog was. I had it all edited, even with a disclaimer at the beginning of the video. But I thought about all the people Revie hurt, and how EXE is always associated with her.
I don’t think Revie is entirely guilty, but she isn’t without faults. But including EXE in the video would’ve been disrespectful to the people she hurt.

The difference between Lord X and Scorch is that Lord X has air of menace and authority, just like his name sake. Scorch on the other hand feels very very feral
Lord X’s brand of fear feels more like a lovecraftian god, something incomprehensible and so much more powerful than you, something that you can’t escape, something you don’t understand.
Scorch to me feels more like a feral rampaging bear mixed with a skin walker
I personally prefer Lord X purely because of his brand of terror alone
I think Exe/faker pulls off the imposter look better then Hog. The cute look with the lack facial features makes it feel too obviously it’s a facade. Faker’s design is off, but the environment and music could lead to just thinking he’s just a insane Sonic that killed his friend or survived the end of the world.

Funkin is more than a rhythm game. It’s a creative medium! It models after Newgrounds’ ideology, that being “everything by everyone”. It only makes sense that it combines with an equally creative fandom.

I feel like sonic.exe has many reasons to be liked besides nostalgia and interest in Sonic
One Is that the original story was really really bad, so much so that It could be called "the room" of horror stories, a plot filled with nonsense, a Monster that wasnt really that scary, a danger that could easily be prevented, and even besides the story a writter so ignorant of how bad their work was that he even wanted his fans to actively protest against its removal from the creepypasta website
All of this creates a pretty unique, honest and special comedy that i at least love
The second reason for interest could be Simply the challenge
As markiplier said when playing Sonic.eyx, the concept of the game could work well without even being an EXE game
But i feel like that Is part of the fun, trying to create good horror while working with friendly and not scary concepts as Sonic
Its kinda like programming games on older software as a challenge to see what you can manage to do
A third reason could be because when It comes to personalities, creepypasta Monsters rarelly have One
And for a good reason, Monsters are meant to be vague and not too detailed to feel less familiar and as such more scary, sonic.exe on the other hand has a lot of personality
His playful way of hunting his prey
His snarky comments
His ego in him taking the role of Sonic and calling himself "God" even if he Is Stuck to a CD (kinda like the ego of his original creator calling It the best creepypasta)
It grants sonic.exe the ability to be more than an Urban Legends scare but rather be a full on character with layers which Is also an interesting aspect to me at least

Don’t you think that ever since the name Exetior was given to a sonic.exe character, a lot of people started giving their sonic.exe names as well? for example: Exeller, Lord X, .Err, .Eyx, Xenophanes, Xtreion, Cyclops, etc... (i didn’t mention Sark and Pervision because their names were already given by the same person who named a sonic.exe character Exetior) all these names which i mentioned are also names of other sonic.exe entities, in conclusion: Exetior was the first to be named in a sonic.exe character and then other people decided to do the same by giving their own sonic.exe names
It honestly feels like this video (which is almost 1 year old now? Holy shit.) feels overlooked for all the wrong reasons tbh.
So you know how the original Sonic.EXE creepypasta was so notoriously garbage, people thought (and still do to this day) the creepypasta was just some kind of shitpost/bait?
People tend to forget that the reason why this whole EXE trend started to begin with was to make Sonic.EXE into something BETTER than the original creepypasta.
Honestly although the fandom was much tamer back then in my experience, the OC's weren't really..... "Unique" per say, at least the mainstream ones (besides Lord X, faker was still pretty niche then). There was several times I got confused between who's who.
Kinda sucks it was the way it was, considering the Sonic fandom can get REALLY damn creative with Sonic designs.
Thankfully, the fandom that's also known for creating alternate versions and takes of literally anything came along and managed to spin that motor the Sonic fans needed into actually making recognizable, unique designs that you can tell apart from each other.
Unfortunately, nowadays the EXE fandom is seen by cringe again, even worse of a rep than it had before.
It's funny because, the hate I'm seeing for this community is mainly coming from the fandom who not only kickstarted a niche fandom up again, but gassed it up by having most of the community filled by FNF fans, only to call it unoriginal because the FNF fandom is also known for it's unoriginality! Very surprising.
And the other hate I'm mainly seeing from this community is the Sonic community itself, which is kinda weird since I thought cringe culture for Sonic OC's died out years ago? While also being the same fandom that will gladly make takes/AU's on Sonic's cast and make an OC for every name in existence.
Though, at the same time I can't really blame them for thinking like this tbh.
This fandom is utter chaos, and even if 90% of the damage was done by the same community slandering it, it still isn't much of a good look to the outsiders of the Sonic.EXE community, yet alone the Sonic AND FNF community either.
I guess we'll just have to wait for the hate (or community) to die down and let the fandom fade into obscurity so we could get rid of all the bad members.
Probably we could hope it dies down and revived with a new light in the future like what happened to Undertale's fandom.

EYX and No More Innocence are by far the best EXEs I've ever seen, and the only ones to actually be even slightly creepy to me
the thing about hog that i like the most, is that scorched is actually sonic, instead of a faker, like EXE.
Funny enough, Exes kind of remind me of something from the old brony community. In the early days of the fandom, there was a fanfic called Cupcakes, in which the most innocent-seeming pony turned out to be using more, shall we say, savory ingredients for her baking, the kind that result in declining population count. The story was shit, but others ran with it, creating better stories, art, music, and more based around this concept. Meantime, the same happened with other horror-themed works. The simple fact is that characters designed to denote purity are remarkably effective devices for stories denoting corruption. On top of that, it's just human nature to see what others are doing and want to do it better

the one thing i love and hate about the sonic.exe mod and exes in general is the faker/black sun exe, it was my favorite from the first time i saw it. You knew it wasnt sonic but you didnt know what it was and the named only enforced that ideal more, the song was slow and eerie like he was still trying to play you off like he was the original. After the faker song the transformation into black sun is really cool, it happens out of nowhere and the song ends just like that, the song after just kinda leaves you staring at the big monster that looked like sonic not even a minute ago and i feel like they did it very well. i absolutely love faker and black sun, while the concept of "haha im your friend oh wait jk im a big scary monster" might not be the most original thing i still feel they pulled it off effortlessly. What Revie did was terrible and she deserves the worst to come to her and i hate to seperate art from the artist but i just cant in this instance i like faker too much. Im glad you gave hog a section in this video because he is essentially supposed to be a more fleshed out faker and black sun which they did very well.
TL;DR Revie very bad, faker and black sun are super cool, hog and scorched are better made

Basically, X is more beastly, similar to the Werehog. He lacks gloves and shoes, and his limbs fade into a purple colour. His fur is darker, and his arms are blue. His eyes are separated.

I have a backstory for Xendio (BTW its long). Basically it's about a child who played Sonic 3 and developed an imaginary friend based off the game. One day the child's mother walked in on him talking to a hole in their wall that hadn't been patched up. The mother asked her child what he was doing and he said "Mommy my imaginary friend speaks through these holes! Please don't patch them up!" The mother looked at her child and felt worried for his safety so she took away Sonic 3 from the child. The next day, she walked into her kid's room only to find them still laying in bed wide awake. She turned on the light and said "C'mon it's time to get up!" But the boy didn't respond and so she said "Ok since you don't wanna get put of bed we'll have to be late!" The boy still didn't respond. When it was time to go to School she walked back into her child's room and shook him saying "Get up we're gonna be late!" The kid then got up and limped towards their closet to get their backpack and them mumbled "Not my game" the Mother didn't know what to say so she just kept driving. After School the Mother picked up her kid and drove home. At dinner time she called her kid to the table to which to limped towards their chair and sat down. After a couple bites he said "Why did you it?" The Mother replied with "What?" The kid bounced back saying "Why did you take it away from me?" The Mother then said still confused "Take what?" The kid then slammed his fist on the table and yelled "STOP PLAYING DUMB YOU KNOW WHAT YOU TOOK! GIVE IT BACK!" The Mother was astonished that her kid bounced back the conversation with such force. She got the astonishment off her face and said "Well with an attitude like that you aren't gonna get it back" the kid put his plate away and stormed off to his room. The next day is where things take a turn for the worst. The mother opens her kid's door and says "Ok son you can have it back just don't ev- oh...my...god..." the mother stepped back in horror as she saw her son slightly hovering off the ground and twitching. Then an ominous voice said "This is all your doing" the mother replied with "Wh-what?!" The voice then shouted back "YOU DID THIS TO THEM! ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS GIVE THE DAMN GAME BACK BUT YOU DIDN'T! THESE ARE THE CONSEQUENCES OF YOUR ACTIONS!" The mother fell onto the ground as a black hedgehog resembling Sonic with portals that generate the monster's arms appeared.
I’ve kinda figured out his story by now, but I enjoy the concept of an imaginary friend exe ^^
