As a first year medical student it's important to not only highlight the good parts about medical school but also the tiring and stressful parts. Authenticity and transparency is key! Love your channel

Maha I actually really loved that you complained so much in this vlog. I'm not in med school (yet) but I am pre-med and whenever I have particularly a hellish time I get the same way (especially when you said you didn't want to study with other people because they would know things you didn't that's me right now prepping for this health care exam omg it's so frustrating). Your authenticity is comforting and encouraging, it not only shows that you're (a very lovable) human but that even in med school it's okay to not have everything under control all the time and I appreciate that, and you.

Heba Elsayed how is it? Could u describe your experience in detail , im worried since im a muslim hijabi too in Italy though

    • @hebaelsayed2785
      @hebaelsayed2785 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Anta Kebe I'm an Egyptian muslim living in Egypt so actually I have no idea about being hijabi in a foreign country experience, but all I can say; you have to trust yourself no matter what I always see Maha's videos and how ppl in her college treat her friendly and love her, so let you actions define you,,, so about med school experience my first year ran so smoothly but during first semester in my second year stress for exams was soooo much it was my first time to experience insomnia, eating disorders, my heart races, can't focus or understand anything I read, and I thought how the college I dreamed to join being my worst stressor ever!! maybe it's just not my place I wouldn't be good at medicine but when I decided to shift career or do sth to end this anxiety, I figured out I have no interest in any other thing and I asked Allah for help and guidance. I passed those final exams elhamdulleah.. and for my second semester in the year I changed my way of thinking that if it's not my place Allah wouldn't help me get in or help me overcome all of that . and I studied not for grades not for exams but for the patients I will treat and only doing my best leaving grades and all of that to Allah. tried to cope with my anxiety, I suffered for a while from insomnia especially at exams nights. but gradually it decreased and all of the stress and anxiety as well, and third year ran smoothly although it was harder.. and here I'm in my fourth year. so really you grow stronger and have more control over your life, always do your best and forget the rest as they say xD you have to know you will encounter many breakdowns but you have to beat those and continue the hard work. Allah be with you. :)

I'm so proud of you. You are amazing. I love how you show the stressful moments as well. That is what we want and also NEED to see. I'm getting myself ready emotionally for when I start med school. I have a husband and four kids and my little one will be seven when I start medical school. I absolutely know that it's going to be hard and I accept that. But getting to see the good and the strengthening part of med school is wonderful and really helpful. Sugar coating isn't going to help anyone. I'm so happy I found your channel.

Girl, I don't expect you to be happy all the time. Medical school is definitely hard as hell and it's expected to be stressed and possibly negative at times. All you have to do is try your best, we love you regardless. Honestly, your version of being negative doesn't seem negative to me hahah. You're stressed and you are still so smiley and so kind to others. You're much better than most, very inspiring regardless. I am in nursing school and I feel the pressure too!

It was extremely brave of you to show how stressed you were and the reality of your experience. Often vlogs promote perfection and create unrealistic expectations for life but your video's depth and candor was much more inspiring than a set up scenario . This was the first video I've ever watched of yours and it was so great that I'll definitely be watching more. Good luck as you continue through school!

Maha, I literally never comment on videos but this one was so helpful for me. I'm in 1st year of med school as well and honestly hearing you complain (although you saw it as being negative) was soooo helpful and reassuring for me, it was like it's okay to feel stressed and overwhelmed everyone gets like this at times, because i've been feeling that a lot too lately since exams are approaching soon, but you've taught me that if you work hard then at the end you will come out feeling like you've accomplished something. So, now i feel motivated to work harder and be grateful for this opportunity I have and I just want to say thank youuuuu for keeping it real always! Also, the coagulation cascade was super useful, you should make like a blog or something where you upload useful studying resources for different topics that would be so good! Good luck with your last two months :)

I'm undergad and I actually do have to know the coagulation cascade soon. Obviously not as detailed as you have to know it, but that was really helpful! Thank you! I think ideas/tips on how you memorize your med school material would be really interesting, I love how you used an example of your own material here. Please do that more! Plus it's interesting to see exactly what you study on a given day

  • @rose360x1

When you study, do you only go over each section once? Or do you go over each section once with a lot of detail and focus and then do an overview at the end? I know you showed us your planner, and you’ve probably talked about this before so sorry for asking again :)

Hayley Schrock i agree with the advice above. I’m a med student in India and I’ve struggled finding the right way to study medicine. But now i do the same thing, read the topic in general, and then memorize what needs to be memorized. I also like to write down a few words while memorizing, i feels it helps in retention but sometimes it could be a waste of time if u get carried away and start writing down sentences.

I love this video, it just shows how human you are! Hopefully the exam went great!! Also my introverted self is shocked at how social you are it looks like the ms1 at your school is one big family 😅

Maha I love your vlogs and was so excited to see you had posted a new one! I'm only pre-med at the moment, but this video is motivating me to go grind out some more much-needed studying

Wow, love the input on coagulation factor. Learned that in physiology and I literally learned the hard way. Anyway, i could still use it in general surgery. Thank you and keep up the good work 👍🏼

the feeling of 1 week before exams... girl it is intense. and i am totally related when u said you skip class to study cause it feels like you dont have enough time for study. and sometimes i do that too hahahaha. but my advice is enjoy it! i even take a day off and totally reward myself a day before exams by hanging out with my friends in different major 😂. and it turns out great bc you don't put pressure on yourself for the exams, and remind yourself that everytime you study it is prretty much like you trying to save someone's life. on top of my notes i always write down "how to help people" and it does feel great eventho the stress can get in my way sometimes.

    Hi Maha!
I just found your channel yesterday and I have binged watched almost every video! To see someone so genuine going after their dreams inspires me as I start law school in the Fall!
One thing I totally admire is your fashion sense - it seems really effortless, but still cute and functional. I'm a Christian and I've really felt the conviction lately to change up how I'm dressing. I've always admired women of other faiths and how they stay fashionable, but still modest. I was wondering if you had any tips, suggestions, or places you shop that could help! As a woman of color, its super tough finding things that fit curves and still cover and to top it off, I have NO (like zero) fashion sense (I look like I rolled out of the laundry hamper every time I leave the house, usually wearing baggy sweats and the same 3 or 4 t-shirts -____-) and starting law school, I want to be chic, but still comfortable.
Sorry for the SUPER long comment! Any help you could offer is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks again so much!
    XOXO

I am so proud of you! I knew this video would end good. Bte we have the same name (not often that I see another person have the same name as me) and I also aspire to become a doctor, in shaa allah! Here where I lived it's all about scores for coming in to med school. They won't interview you. Anyways I really enjooy watching your vidoes. And I'm happy that you showed us this side of med school.
