Vivid and fond memories of bringing home albums back in the day. Peeling off the plastic and sliding her out of the sleeve. Breathing that new album aroma. Excited about playing the track that was airing, but also expecting pleasant surprises from other cuts. Being young was fun.
Nice to see them having fun with the wedges that others were trying to jam between Aimee and the band. It was a great idea to make fun of it rather than get upset.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS VIDEO ! ! ! I'll never forget the first time I saw it on MTV. Brilliant concept and execution; simply BEAUTIFUL imagery ! ! ! The thumbnail for the video should have been of her in the white dress in the opening scene.... THE 80'S RULE ! ! !
my guess is that in the 80's people were kinda spoiled with good music... :-D from todays point of view of course it's very unusual and of course is and always was really quality music!!
I saw them first at a fraternity party in Boston. They played the first album, which hadn't dropped yet. I knew many other Boston area musicians at the time. I would often see Aimee around town always running late guitar in hand for something. I am not here to rate them against the decade, but I love Aimee with or without Til Tuesday.

This is an excellent 80's video! The music is 80's and the video is 80's considering the consumption of excess, luxury, and total lack of responsibility - as if the luxury was free. A quintessential 80's video.

I love this whole album. I learned the Bass parts of all of the songs I like so we could play them . But my friends were not into this type of rock music.
I bought their compact disc in 1987 while I was stationed at Colonel Louis J Storck Barracks in ILLESHEIM West Germany, even though the song came out in 1985. Great album.
+P WHJ That's hilarious. Oh, you're serious? Not even close. U2, REM, Def Leppard, Prince, Madonna, Guns n Roses. Til Tuesday wasn't even the best Boston band of the 80s. Farrenheit, Jon Butcher, Private Lightning all more talented. Til Tuesday was just a pretty face, a pretty voice, and lots of synths.
Awesome. I was always scared of checking out her other songs after "voices carry" cause I didn't think they'd be good but this is just as sweet. As well as the video.
I was born in 87, had I been a teen or in my early 20s in the mid 80s I would have had a pretty big crush on her, as a matter of fact I have crush on her, at her current age she is as charming, talented and brave as ever.

For those days life was simpler and better and television was full of good programming, cartoons, music videos, series, in short everything! I would like to travel back in time or have a time machine to go back... I love the end of this video, the singer wakes up and when she sees the band she hugs them one by one... that's how I would like to wake up one day... The last scene is moving...the singer cries because it was just a dream...that's the memories of all of us...unfortunately we can't go back to the past, but the memories will never be erased from our hearts!
God, I love this song it has so many musical hooks and the lyrics are great. None of the pop crap has any of the stuff I just mentioned. I know the video can be seen as cheesy, but it's still a lot better than what's out there now :-).
Fantastic indeed Got the first album when it came out - played it to death Got on CD now and still listen to all their stuff - great band Aimee got a superb solo career going too, so much quality and new album due this year hopefully Damn this is great
The concept of a band being pissed off because the lead singer is getting all the press is an idea that crept up in the video for "Don't Speak" by No Doubt. But I LOVE this video and song! Should have been a hit!

9 years since the last comment, well this song is totally driven by the bass and that beautiful voice this lady has.
I keep coming back to this more than "Voices Carry." Such a wonderful piece of songwriting.
This is my favorite song of theirs too
Aimee Mann is one of the most

this song is so underrated- the entire album is! voices carry is a great song, but every song on that album could have been just as great a hit
You absolutely nailed it I don’t know about every song but a bunch of them on the first two albums were every bit as good as “voices carry“.
This album is the best in 1985, and will always be in my opinion the best album of any year. It has it all. 💡

My heart just yearns for the 80's. If they ever invent a time machine...dude, that's the first decade I'm going to!
It was a great decade in so many ways and terribly sad in others... Technology was just beginning to get it's firm grip around our throats...
Underated is opening for Rick Springfield back in the 80's...still glad i got to see them live. A cherished memory.
