I've been there myself - It could use a better video on a nicer day, but thanks for posting and stirring up much interest in this special place on the late Charlie Doherty's farm on Inch Island in the south end of Lough Swilly.

It's a really scenic, serene spot. I recently returned with my father - this time we walked in along the beach after crossing the causeway. Walking time was about 45 minutes one-way.

My family and I are visiting Inishowen, Ireland this summer and we really want to visit this castle as it is a part of our heritage. How did you get to this castle (i.e. what methods of transport did you use, did you have to go by boat, rental car, etc.), is it available to the public? How do you recommend getting there? Do we need permission beforehand to enter it? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

hypatia2001 I drove there (as close as possible, at least) - it is on Inch Island which is easily accessed by road. The castle is not available to the public - it is on private farm land. I went to the owners' front door and asked permission. They were incredibly nice and allowed me to cross their pastures - however, they had a number of bulls in the pasture so it was not entirely safe. It is on many local maps and you can get onto the island by looking for signs just south of Buncrana.

@@19bdougherty @hypatia2001 also, it is possible to walk towards it at low tide along the shoreline from a small access road at 55° 3'4.15"N 7°28'23.62"W

I am sorry this answer is late, but the Island is in the north and at the south end of Lough Swilly. It is accessible by car from Faughan (on the mainland: That is If Ireland has a mainland) by an automobile causeway. The castle is on the private farm of Charlie Doherty (now deceased: West side of the Island) but I believe it is still owned by his sons.

How did you get permission to go to the castle? Me and my friend are traveling to Inch Island later this month and we really want to see the castle but we read online that it is on someone's private property and you need to get permission, we tried contacting Inishowen Tourism about it but they never got back to us. I really would appreciate any information you could pass on.
