The cast is impossibly stacked. Apart from the obvious, they got bit parts for Hank Azaria (Simpsons voice actor), iconic rapper Tone Loc, metal legend Henry Rollins, it just goes on and on. Random legends just show up for a few seconds here and there.
So glad to see you again! And HEAR you! I think I've commented this before, but you have such a lovely (ASMR quality) voice. More importantly, I always love to see takes on great films from a serious filmmaker perspective. Please stick around. We love your content!
So glad to have you back - and reacting to one of my favorite films! Pay no mind to people whining about you discussing more technical shit - observations like those are part of what sets your channel apart.
@@WatchMeMovie I remain astounded every time I watch Heat that it received ZERO nominations at the Academy Awards. The sound design, as you point out, is textbook: the vacuum before the windows blow out of those cars, the fluttering of the tinsel bunting at that car dealership before the shit hits the fan, Pacino’s breath (as you pointed out), the alternating between the near silence and the roar of the airplanes in that last scene, the percussive thunder of the battle in the street. It’s some of the best sound design in the history of movies.
Neil's downfall turned out not to be getting attached to his new girl, but rather being unable to forgo his vengeance on Waingro. Great reaction to a great movie. You'll probably also enjoy 'Thief' with James Caan - also by Michael Mann.
Well, Thief is basically HEAT-light, there are scenes in HEAT lifted straight out of Thief, or heavily influenced by it. If you've seen HEAT you don't have to watch Thief unless you want to. HEAT is basically the new and improved version of Thief.
I love that you noticed the sound design right away... its a huge part of this movie, as I am sure you know now. Also, Michael Mann's iconic cinematography and his love for Lost Angeles, its lightning in a bottle. MM is known for his location scouting adventures. Such a classic.
The prodigal son returns! I adore the cinematography in this. Also the sound design is spectacular, but during the gun fight, the reason it sounds so deafening is because Michael Mann had microphones placed around the street so it captured the gunfire live. In fact, another detail about that entire scene, Marines are still shown how the crew progress down the street and retreat, as well as how to reload as quickly as Val Kilmer does. Quite impressive.
“Don't let yourself get attached to anything you are not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you feel the heat around the corner." That’s why I never wanted or want a doctor, a policeman or a firefighter. Welcome back, miss you!
I LOVE that you mentioned the sound design in like…the first 5 minutes? Out of all the technically impressive things about this movie, that one is probably tops in my opinion. Makes for a way more engrossing experience. Especially that street shootout scene!
Yeah it was glorious, I’m gonna rewatch this actually as I have since bought some nicer headphones. But yeah definitely my favourite aspect of this movie 👍
My 2nd favorite movie of all time. It's just perfect IMO. Michael Mann is SO good at crime dramas. It's amazing how Mann and Deniro make you feel compassion for the character of Neil, who "in real life" would be a deplorable person. And the song at the very end after Deniro gets shot, is amazing. Moby's "God Moving Over the Face of the Water" is such a beautiful piece. And don't get me started on the bank heist scene. Simply amazing.
my 2nd favorite also Sanwhiched between the Godfather movies with part 2 being my favorite movie of all time and part 1 as my 3rd favorite movie of all time
Just imagine, that classic diner scene with Al & Bob, instead of talkin' 'bout Cops & Robbers in that conversation, they're actually talkin' 'bout their acting career. Watch that sequence again, and you'll understand what I'm talking about (actually I saw this, and came up with this theory, the first time I saw this movie in the cinema).
So nice to see your handsome face back here. You probably already know this but in 1997 the North Hollywood shootout, one of the biggest gun battles in the history of Los Angeles, went down when two bank robbers went on a shooting rampage. They were wearing body armor and totally outgunned the cops, who had to commandeer weapons and ammo from local gun shops. The whole thing didn't last long, or maybe it was an eternity, depending on ones perspective - 44 min. But it was very much like the shootout at the end of this movie. There are plenty of videos on YT with footage of the whole thing.
welcome back! always appreciated your reactions. we love the discussions about cinematography and shot compositions. would love your take on blade runner 2049 (denis villneuve). video game you referred to: kane and lynch…. the second game (‘dog days’) has some interesting visual approaches and direction. also both games had the underrated stories.
?? People are complaining that a Film student is commenting on camera angles, and such? They might be watching the wrong React Channel, then. 😂 That was my interest in his p.o.v. There are a lot of React Channels for people who just want that, "hey, I'm a wacky morning radio dj, I have funny comments and make funny faces", if that's what they want. 😂
You should definitely check out THIEF and MANHUNTER, two earlier films by this director. Both are outstanding crime films, and the latter is the first screen appearance of Hannibal Lecter.
Very good movie overall with solid acting and directing. Excellent plot and script. One of the best firefight scenes ever put on the big screen. I give the film a solid four stars out of five. (PS: Congrats on finishing school and moving on in life.)
You were right about the sound design, I saw this movie when it was released in the cinema, and especially that incredible robbery/shoot-out scene was amazing, it was the loudest noise/sounds I've ever heard in a movie theater. Btw, most people who watch this movie, thinks the dead girl, is the same girl (the ''call girl'') who's killed by that (f*ckin') serial killer, but it's not....probably one day, we're goin' to get a 4 hour version of ''Heat'', 'cause there are more open plot holes when it comes to its storytelling....
Welcome back man!!!!!
Wow You were quick with that comment! thank you so much , good to be back!
The style and rhythm to this movie is just perfection. Each single word has meaning and the pure storytelling is unbelievable.
The cast is impossibly stacked. Apart from the obvious, they got bit parts for Hank Azaria (Simpsons voice actor), iconic rapper Tone Loc, metal legend Henry Rollins, it just goes on and on. Random legends just show up for a few seconds here and there.
Don't you just love this guys relaxing voice....
“Heist” is a lesser known crime film. Starring Gene Hackman. I think it’s written by David Mamet. Really smart and well done.
I had a Motorola Startac flip phone but never had a pager. Im 42 now. 😅 Welcome back and congrats on graduating!

He’s back!!!! I haven’t watched yet but I was so excited to see you, my friend! I’ll be watching later tonight for sure.
David!! Good to see you mate, thanks so much for stopping by!
Hey David, that's a surprise to see you here on WatchMeMovie hahahaha
Small youtube world, I just saw your Fried Green Tomatoes reaction the other day, David! Y'all make me laugh. :) Love both of your channels.

The Black actor who played the cop in heat was same actor who played Bubba in Forrest Gump… I know brilliant actor.

Hey Peter! thank you!
Fun fact. This is basically a shot for shot, line for line, remake of Michael Mann's TV movie LA Takedown. I don't think he told any of the cast.
Please do more reaction videos. I love hearing your insight.
Hey good to see you again my friend ! 👋 😊 congratulation on graduation 👨🎓
Thank you so much 🤗
Welcome back. Another crime thriller worth watching is Thief by this same director
Great reaction, really enjoyed watching with you ☺️

Hi Angela! thanks yeah I remember this vaguely!
Glad you're back! If you haven't watched it already, I'd love to see you react on "The Conversation" directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
Heat always hits home to me is because my parents was always with different ladies and men just like Neil
The bank shootout choreography was done by ex SAS Sgt Andy Mcnab, thats why its so slick.
Oh! I didn't know that, makes sense. Thanks!
Definitely one of the best shootout scenes.
Your back! 😃👏🏽
ty for the reaction
So good to see you!
