    Being too passive goes hand in hand with low awareness. Players with low awareness have no clue when their team gets an advantage. New players seem to think that the good players are just running around willy nilly but it’s actually about awareness of the situation. You can’t capitalize on the situation if you’re completely unaware of the situation.

    • @forestcampbell8962
      @forestcampbell8962 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      True. I have an issue with awareness and memorizing the finer map details as I'm getting up in age.

    • @q8asami
      @q8asami 2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      the opposite is also very true. was playing rank with a friend on my smurf account as my usual lobbies are way too hard for him. we're in bronze and our 3rd died and started blaming us for "running away ".
      we weren't running away, we were sandwiched between two teams on low ground, one team had a bocek while the other had a kraber. but apparently. that was an ideal situation to start firing at a team, die, and then blame us for not being aggressive. bronze lobbies were super chill for me. but the amount of mistakes i saw from the lack of awareness is astonishing. and worst of all, they don't know that they're the ones who fucked up.

    • @ninerknight5351
      @ninerknight5351 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@q8asami true bro, I feel you. They can also be stupidly aggressive and then get super angry cause you didn’t want to make a suicide push. Nobody gets angrier than someone who’s getting mad at something they don’t understand.

    • @ruben59
      @ruben59 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      when do you want to push? after you crack somebody? or do you want to wait till one of them is knocked? if you have shield advantage do you just immediately push no questions asked? fairly new player here and i struggle with this :/ currently in gold 1

    • @q8asami
      @q8asami 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@ruben59 a lot to unpack and to be honest you'll have to play quite a bit to determine the right time to push but a general rule of thumb is if you get a knock and you are safe to push (no other teams nearby) it's better to push. if you all have purple and the enemy has white then by all means do push as well. but be aware it's not just that team, always pay attention to where the other teams are.
      when you land somewhere, pay attention to where the other teams nearby landed you'll know which side they might come from and set up for it.
      lastly, i would pay attention to what type of legends my team has, for example if your team has a caustic or wattson, some fights are safer to take indoors. while other legends thrive in open spaces like pathy for example.
      keep in mind, i would only do this in rank as you need to be smart about it. in pubs tho, you can push all you want and make all the mistakes you want. anyone who gets mad at you for doing something wrong in pubs should get a life.
      one more thing, and this should apply to both modes. LOOT FAST, always loot fast before a fight and after the fight, 3rd parties are always coming and you want to restock your essentials like ammo and health as soon as possible.

    Often times I’ll go on Reddit or wherever else for advice and I’ll see the tip “push and ape every single team you see I swear you’ll improve trust me bro”. Explains why my randoms try to 1v3, die and leave every single match.

    • @fistofsage
      @fistofsage 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think it's one of those pieces of advice people give where they don't actually want to help others but want to pretend that they're helping others.
      So they say something vague like "just fight everyone" when it's more conplex than just that simply because it can be [wrongfully] interpreted in so many ways

    • @q8asami
      @q8asami 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@fistofsage to be honest, almost all who advice to push always explain that it's a good way to improve as long as they're smart about it. but apparently that translates to brainless pushing for most noobies. hence why they jump straight into 1v3ing everyone.

      @damianplatt8886 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      1v3s will help you improve because if you can 1v3 it makes 1v2s a lot less freighting and 1v1s a cake walk

    • @starryshark
      @starryshark 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha this is because pros and streamers fill their heads with this. I know a guy that is masters and has been playing since season 1, and despite the fact that he can output serious damage, he always needs to be revived or picked up. Even he admits that he has poor decision making (this was a master player mind you). When I play with him I can't play at my optimal and when I stream he'll comment "why can't you get kills like this when we play together" and I say "it's because I'm always distracted by your nonsense" lol being a prior Lifeline main I could tell he was either an Ocatne main or Wraith main before becoming a Valk main.
      Btw he loves to push everything xD then gets knocked. But at least he gets the opponents one shot or at least close.

    • @starryshark
      @starryshark 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@damianplatt8886 dying a lot doesn't really equal improvement. Mitigating the amount of damage you play, playing cover, actually knocking a player in a 1v1 does equal improvement.
      I still to this day will get players that have 11k kills, push a fight alone as wraith or Pathfinder and then leave immediately. I think the Pathfinder I had was a good Pathfinder because he got 4 kills, but they're legit horrible teammates.
      I found myself getting super bored today despite getting master and pred teammates, but they were such horrible teammates that I was just alone half the time because they left. I even had a pred valk I was playing duos with today that took off after pinged that I needed ammo. Found some in a nearby bin. I turn to go to her (as Lifeline mind you) just as I did to help her with a fight prior, and she got knocked to a Pathfinder. She left despite that I was actually a lot closer to her location then she thought. And guess what, I killed the Pathfinder (he was a solo).
      So yes, maybe they will improve in a selfish way, but these sorts of players are why I'm kind of fed up with ranked, because despite the fact that they might actually CAN shoot, they have no idea how to be a good teammate. Dropping loot or heals when your teammate is in need, and God forbid if they need to retrieve your banner in ranked. Chances are they will respawn you and run off leaving you alone (and honestly what's the point in even doing this if they'll run off) or they have no idea how to do so, so they just resort to ratting.
      Don't get me wrong I respect master and pred players for the amount of time and effort they put into the game, but some can be super selfish.

    A tip I have is don’t be afraid to switch your load out mid-late game. There has been so many times where I’m almost out of ammo and either my teammates have not enough ammo to spare, or they don’t even run a gun with the same ammo. So I just switch one of my guns with someone I killed and take the ammo/attachments for that gun.

    The 1st tip struck me and if anyone else had this problem as well it is that I never stopped playing one character but then playing that character got dry. For instance I played octane and didn't switch for a while then when someone took my character I was basically handicap so I tried to play different characters and to be honest it improved my game sense in different situations how I react to certain things and really how I play apex.

      For any beginner I believe the best goal is to get the badge rewarded from getting 10 wins with 8 different legends. It's a good goal. There's at least 2 legends any person despises in those 8, that right there will grow one's awareness for other legends abilities, weaknesses and strengths

    • @growingoaks
      @growingoaks ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelrichard4966 do people ever “1 trick” legends? Is that a thing in Apex? I started earlier this week and i gotta say, Rampart is actually so nasty and i’m glad she doesnt get picked much because I generally like to play more obscure and odd legends.
      For example, In League of Legends, my main champ in the jungle was usually Nidalee, but I’d often get bored of that and pick Brand Jungle. 😂 people would think im trolling till my they saw my KDA. I finished one of my best games as brand with a KDA of 18/3/15 and pissed a lotta people off with it. Oddly fun and satisfying to pull off.
      Do you think I could pull off a similar thing with Rampart if I 1 trick her? Im trying to learn to a-wall slide but the inputs on controller are brutal without paddles/rear buttons.

    The number 1 rule I follow in ranked is "only fight teams if you have a good reason to do so." If you just run at every second of gunfire, you'll get there the same time every other team in the lobby did and end up in a chaotic mess that's really hard to stay alive in for long. Playing to take and hold good positions in the ring for late game makes it much easier to get KP and placement points without taking unnecessary risks. It sounds like "just camp" but that's not really it. Throughout the match, players will rotate through certain places to get to the ring, and by already being in those places to pick them off, it'll net fairly easy kills.

    I like being the person that picks last in the character select screen. I noticed that my first 200 hours I played extremely safe instead of going after someone(like if I broke someone). Now I play looser and when I get good damage on somebody I actually go after them. I can even tell that my style of going for a kill changed I'm more comfortable with sliding in or bouncing off of something like a octane's jump pad or Pathfinders line.

    What, at least on the useful or long run, made me improve massively, was try to solo no fill.
    almost 100% of the times i play solo qeue, i dreaded it at first, its insane going alone vs everybody when you re not that good.
    But even tho you dont get high kill games or make you a flashy player, it does make you a more "reliable on yourself" player.
    This means:
    - You get more aware;
    - You tend to survive longer (by experience you get that survival instinct that you can only count on yourself);
    - When you get teammates again, even if they are randoms and are not that good, you can take care of yourself and clutch more situations than before.
    Teammate buff turns real all of a sudden.

    Comms are important. Most ppl don't use a mic but I swear 90% of the time I just ask politely if they got a mic and they'll plug one in or turn theirs on and then you can comm. This is more for ranked but pubs as well

      @@chromie6571 problem is, the ping system needs an update. @@theosclong1201 You can actually ping for any attachments by pinging the slots in your inventory. You can even ask for an upgrade by pinging an attachment you already have. • @starryshark
      @starryshark 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Guessing some people really rely on then. For me personally it's way too noisy. I use comms only when playing with friends currently because most of the times when I'm fighting I get super quiet anyways (focusing and listening for audio cues).
      Plus I've spent almost 8 seasons not using comms and am use to using strictly pings.
      Besides most players that use mics will just talk the entire time, say absolutely nothing until AFTER they get knocked, or will have annoying music playing. This is in ranked. I'm not saying they can't use mics, but they don't use them efficiently to rely any sort of helpful information. Besides, if you want to rotate somewhere or disengage, a simply ping to suggest a location works just fine. Even pinging that you want to defend an area gives me enough information.
      But I'm under the impression that some people truly can't work without it.

    • @starryshark
      @starryshark 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chromie6571 exactly. I've had teammates take off alone while I turned around for a split second to find that they've gotten knocked. Say I'm a tiny bit accupied, literally if my teammates ping that they see an enemy or are running off I immediately look at the map.
      Not a lot of players use the ping. And the ones that do only use it in an annoying way to let us know someone is doing a finisher on them lol

If your team is aggro then go with them if they’re more passive then be passive with them. Play together as a team! That’s the only rule you need to follow when playing teams. Don’t be a dickhead and jump into fights by yourself and die and get all pissed because your team is nowhere near you. That’s on you. That’s your fault. Rule number one, be a team player.

Most of the time it doesn't. I still really like rampart and use her alot. Let's say I play 10 matches is a session 5 will probably be rampart, and the other 5 will be a variety of different legends. And it definitely helped my improve not using rampart 10 out of the 10 matches.

    CALCULATE THE FIGHT!!!
    my friends laughed at me when I said this
    You don't want to get yourself into fights you can't win
    Especially if you have low ammo or don't have a good angle
    Let someone else handle them
    Go fight someone else ESPECIALLY if they haven't seen you yet 😂
    It's just common sense!

      You'd be amazed that even some good players will still utter the words "I suck"or "I whiffed" I've heard aceu, ItTimmy, ShivFPS and faide say it. They have their moments. Tbh honest it made me appreciate the fact that everyone makes mistakes.
      I'm not gonna lie though, for the longest time I thought pred players never got knocked. I thought good players never ever see the ground and that they carry their teammates every game. I was wrong lol everybody, I'm sure, would appreciate a good, or at least, a decent teammate.
      Even some season 0 vets will say they're bad at the game. This really took me some time to accept as truth 😄

    Idk if it's just me but I don't mind not having a solo mode and the reason why is because I like playing against teams for sum reason and I never really liked playing the solo modes in other games because when I would it would feel and be weird like people would either camp are just be anoyying like they would shoot you across the map and than chase you and when they get there you crack them and they get scared again idk how to explain it but players would play really weird and boring in solos but I like solo duos or trios it makes me feel more confident and improves my gameplay more than playing solos.

    • @starryshark
      @starryshark 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hahaha the moment I see them hesitate and look completely lost I lose hope xD I remember my first encounter with a pred team while soloing. I was watching the killfeed and I figured the team me and my teammaters were approaching was the pred team.
      I was super hyped to see if I could test my skills (which was probably really low, but I believe facing good players helps me improve). One teammate went down immediately. Then the other. My shields were cracked and all I could think was "aw crap, well this didn't last long" before they aped me lol
      I have faced two alone in duos though without knowing it. My teammate wondered off alone to loot and got beamed. I thought that was weird. As I came into the room he was in I got pushed by a wraith, and then an octane. I was lucky enough to knock the wraith, so it helped. The thing is most preds are super aggressive with good aim...if the randoms can't hold their own...yeah the pred team will smell this and pounce xD
      I use to be terrified of preds, I still kinda am, but they're just like every other player. It's better to improve with a good player than wiping a bunch of new players and thinking it makes a player good at the game.

    I think whats stopping me is i started apex watching aceu. Im a console player. Ever since then i watched people like finesse, itztimmy, etc. I started learning movement and stuff and now that’s basically all in fights and i didnt rlly build any aim skill and now i feel that i cant get out of it. I was trying to do movement like them with one: VERY LOW FPS Two: not the resources or equipment they have 3: awareness and thought process. Any thoughts?

    • @starryshark
      @starryshark 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is your sensitivity set to high? Also stop moving around so much lol a simple strafe from left to right is enough. A wall bounce over a thermite can be handy, but why do people do this in a fight. If a player has LOS on you, all that movement means nothing.
      Catching a player off guard is much more effective. Tracking a players movement is effective. Movement is just to look cool. I'm not saying DON'T move, but I am saying that is you face a player with good tracking and aim, the movement falls apart.
      I met a guy that us always talking about what he can do, that he's learning to super glide and everything, and when we que up in duos he's the first to go down EVERY TIME and doesn't know why. It's simple, it's clear he's doing something wrong. Walking into a fight without knowing what you're walking into (decision-making), TOO much movement to the point that you are missing all your shots (we have aim assist, let it work for you. The more you move, the less it can help you) and lastly, you're probably not utilizing cover effectively.
      I'll even tell you something, most players have a tough time shooting a none movement target. I remember I decided to play like a bot while playing Mirage and do as little movement as possible. I go do many kills. At one point a Bangalore started strafing back and forth even though I was clearly standing in one spot. It was mind boggling! But a lesson that some players try way too hard to look cool, when literally all it takes is a tiny peek around a corner to shoot and kill someone with a mastiff.
      Just try staying still, even if it means you might die. Then when you get that movement that's been ingrained in your mind out, you can start implementing it in small amounts.

    GUN RUN was the best thing that apex could've done to decrease the skill gap between the entire lobby. I looked at all my favorite streamers playing gun run and as expected all of them killed it... But they didn't get better... I improved by about 300% tho i went from being able to only make bronze 2 to gold. From being afraid to drop in any place with another team to dropping with 4 teams and coming out alive. To being able to say "i can kill" when all i have is a mozzy or p2020 with no additional ammo.
    Mind you my monitor is still shit, 60fps on ps4, craaaazy wild stick drift. What I'm saying is, gun run forced you to get better at fighting enemies. And that increased the level of the entire apex pool except for those who are already the best

    I feel like this video should play whenever a person gets apex I'm a solo player and most of my randoms that are in my range 500+ for some reason don't have these I'm my opinion obvious skills like literally today I had a game were we pinched between zone and a team blocking one way out and one that wasn't blocked I pinged (not a social player) to try and get them to back off and reposition so that we don't get trapped but the for some reason ego challenge them and instantly get downed like most of my teammates lack awareness and most how drop or just keep pushing and then leave or complain that either we are not playing to their style or that why we didn't drop with them first it's not always a good idea to all drop the same building because then your fighting for loot and always pushing without breaks to either heal or loot means you have limited resources because you never loot the people you killed to replenish the resources you used in the fight

I don't have a problem with playing more then 1 character. But i dont see the point of having a main if you cant even use them in all game modes. 7:53 to add onto this: blaming others only hurts your progress as a player. Take accountability and fix your mistakes.
    Harder to do without a killcam though. Killcams are useful for figuring out your mistakes and fixing them in real time. Seeing it from the victors pov can help you realize your faults w/o having to record your gameplay and analyze it
    9:03 this is why I practice with every gun except the wingman. It’s too odd for me rn
