But if we don't, and he isn't, then he has to deal with some uncomfortable questions about why he is where he is and what he's doing.

    • @Vizardog
      @Vizardog ปีที่แล้ว +95

      Meritocracy is a great concept. But the loudest voices in favor of it think that the status quo is meritocratic and it makes you realize that what is meritocratic has a vastly different meaning between people. They are "self-made" despite being enriched by the fortunes of their parents and their continued success, on the backs of the generational wealth accumulated before they could form a coherent thought, is simply a result of hard work that just about anybody could do (As the myth goes...)

    • @dakat5131

      Some people assume that the world is already meritocratic and that the wealthy people are wealthy because they're that much better than everyone else (hence anything that threatens to dethrone them is an "attack".) But that's not why they're wealthy. They're wealthy largely because of the work of other people and/or access to resources most people don't have.

    Elon musk genuinely earned his wealth through the merits of his skills… those skills of coarse being so infuriatingly annoying and arrogant that every owner of the company he buys into with his fathers money literally just says “f$&& it” and walks away just not to be near him.
    When Elon joined pay pal and then Tesla, both founders literally just left it behind, left the money on the table because they couldn’t stand his Hiroshima levels of cringe.

    Wow I read all the comments about the "meme dealer" joke and it was do SO much worse than I couldve imagined. The fact that it's given as a sort of punch line to the set-up of "you're a card dealer" rather than just an off-the-cuff self-label. The fact he looked SO happy about that joke. And the fact that that room of people cheered just because an immensely rich man mentioned memes. Musk is literal anti-comedy. He is one of those people so devoid of personality and humour that he fills that space with memes.

    George Washington was a complete failure. He was appointed a Colonel in the army by his rich father, he didn't earn it. On his first mission to ease tensions at the Canadian border, he attacked the Canadians for no reason and got his entire unit slaughtered and the White House got burned down. In the Revolutionary War Washington lost most of his battles and failed to defend the capital (Philadelphia at the time) twice and it got captured by the British. After the war, Washington used his wealth to commission tons of propaganda that portrayed him as a strong leader and tactical genius such as paintings and books. Basically, George Washington was the Elon Musk of his time. Also, Washington died of an illness (probably pneumonia) because he decided to go chop down trees in heavy rain after his wife told him not to.
