OH MY GOSH! I woke up Saturday morning, and my first thought was, "I wish I could somehow paint my Kitchen Aide" to go with my new countertops. Never in a million years did I think it was possible. Then, I watched your video. Well, let's just say that my mixer turned out PERFECT. It was fire engine red, and now it's a beautiful rose gold. I'm in LOVE! Thank you so much for making this video. The only thing you forgot to include was the fight you will likely have with your spouse while doing this project. HAHA. He didn't trust me to spray the primer (he's SUPER detail oriented; I'm not). Well, guess who messed up? LOL
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Your how to video is fantastic, I own the exact Kitchenaid mixer you have, and I painted it teal. Came out fantastic. I recommend following your instructions. I researched other videos, nothing is as comprehensive and well done as your tutorial. Thank you again!
Thanks for the informative video! I appreciate that you didn't waste my time by being long-winded as so many others were. This was also the only instructional video found where the kitchenaid was fully disassembled before painting. I love the end result!
I have the very same one. Getting ready to refinish mine, as it’s better than the new ones. Mine is made by Hobart...the new ones are made by Whirlpool. No comparison. Mine works beautifully. Plus, it was my grandma’s. Thanks for the great video that saved me from buying a new one!
Thanks for the great directions... used your tutorial to paint my 20+ year old off-white Artisan model... changed out the original off-white Kitchenaid band trim for a silver, replaced the black attachment hub cover with a chrome cover... it looks great. 💙Ordered my Montana Gold Metallic Effects paint from Home Depot for store delivery (no shipping cost) and could not be happier with my “new” Tennessee Blue mixer!
WOW!!! Love hearing that Cay. Send me a picture on Instagram if you can. Would love to see the transformation. Thanks for sharing and hope you subscribed :)
You have saved me with that 2000 grit sandpaper tip!!! I watched a separate tutorial that didn’t say anything about sandpaper and I thought I was doomed with a crusty feeling mixer! I just went over it with the sandpaper and it’s so smooth! I will also be adding a clear coat. Wondering if it will turn out glossy though, because I actually like how my “mat-look” white looks! Hhmm...?
Great to hear bailey and glad the video helped. If you want a matte finish then you can get a matte or satin clear coat. That should take care of it. Thanks for watching and hope you subscribed.
Question: Rust-oleum makes a set of "appliance paints" but only in about 5 colors. Are these in any way better, perhaps more durable than their regular paint? How has your paint job on the mixer held up?
I would disassemble it further before painting. Then you can clean the internals, relube and paint even easier. This video inspired me to do so, but others showed me how to disassemble further.
Hello i just ordered my new kitchenaid mixer today in pink color and i always wanted to buy this copper color but the price is double 😞 i have more questions but i don't know if you're still active, i hope you still. Please reply to me. Pleasee
Good job,, but... I've restored a few and I remove the plug that holds the brushes in place and replace it with aftermarket chrome plugs to match the side trim and any other chrome looking parts.
Hi this video is great and exactly what I needed ! I’m wanting to fully replicate what you’ve done here , my kitchen aid is white and the finish is in good condition. An I just sand down and apply the copper spray or should I still prime it . Thank s
Great to hear and thanks for watching. You probably can get away without the primer coat since its white already but I would still do a quick primer coat just so you know for sure you have a great surface for the copper paint color to attach to. Thanks for watching and hope you subscribed.
cool. If you have an older Kitchenaid mixer and are planning to do this, good opportunity to regrease it too then it will look and operate like new. Mr. Mixer has some tutorials on that.
You sir are a friggin magician. if only you were closer I'd pay you to paint mine. I bought a large Professional Kitchenaid mixer version in some kind of limited edition silver gunmetal color, which is okay but after so many yrs I've regretted the color. I hope you do this for a living, many MANY women would love to have this done.
Hiya! I appreciate your thoroughness! My mom gave me hers from the 70s and the base has rusted some on the bottom some. Any suggestions besides taking it to an autobody shop?
Great to hear you have an oldy but goody. The saying "they don't make them like they used to" truly applies here haha. You can take some sandpaper to it if the rust isn't too bad. Or if you have a grinder, it will make fast work of it if you have the right bringing wheel. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
Haha! It would make these project go faster if it was half assed but if you want the job done right you have to take the time to do it correctly. Thanks for watching :)
I have a white kitchen aid stand mixer but I'd like to paint it a seafoam/mint colour. Would I still need to use the white primer or could I just sand then paint?
I would say if the base color is white already then you don't have to worry about a priming coat as long as you sand the surface first. Thanks for watching Lisa.
hey, thanks for posting this vid!!! Quick question about stippling.... Can I use 2k grit to smooth out other spray paint projects (if I spray paint plastics?) Not thin plastic - like a plastic tools/nuts & bolts organizer w 16 drawers > sold by lowes & home depot??? ♥️👍👍👍 Thx!!!
I actually love the original color…mine is plain white. Now I’m thinking of getting all the supplies and hiring someone to paint it for me! How does the paint hold up long term? What brand paints will hold up longest/be most durable?
would you reccomend using the flat white paint if the mixer is already white? and do you have any experience with the montana gold silver chrome spray paint?
Thanks for watching Luis. With any paint project I would suggest spraying a primer layer down first. Yes I have used the gold and silver quite a bit. I personally love their silver spray paint. Makes everything look amazing. Thats what I used in the silver background in my intros and conclusions.
Over hauled our mixer today! Did all steps but still ended up marring it when putting back together! 6 coats of enamel thinking the super thick finish would help but it really didn’t. May end up doing all over again. No one else will see the imperfections but I think over time we are going to scratch it up and will have to redo it again. Looks great for now but only time will tell.
Needs to dry several hours between coats and wait several days before putting it back together. Definitely not a 1 day project, more like 1 week. But being patient is worth it.
My x wife took the kitchen in mixture that I bought for us, (left me the attachments). I just bought a used one I want to change it from silver to a different colour. Exactly the video I need to see.
Whats neat about this frog green tape is its flexible and it can curve or flex to what your masking i find other type of masking tape to be hard to use and they don't stick as good as this tape. Anyways thought id give my review on it maybe someone else will like it.
Thanks, looks great and great technique ideas, but I loved the YELLOW! Also you have one built by the Hobart company these are superior to the ones manufactured later on.
Hey!! I just bought one of these (looks exactly like this) for 10$ at goodwill to refinish for my girlfriend's birthday. I was wondering, I'm in college and don't have a garage to spray paint in, where would you recommend spaying it? I could do it in the bed of my truck, but then I wouldn't be able to hang it anywhere, think that'd make a difference? Also, do you know how hard it'd be to upgrade to a power cord with a ground? Thanks for the video, very helpful i'll definitely be rewatching at least ten times to make sure I don't screw up.
Great to hear Caleb and I would suggest you spray it outside. If you have a truck then you could put some type of bar on both side of the truck bed and use a hanger like I did to hang the mixer in the truck. Then spray it from there like i did. Thanks for watching and all the support. As for you other question do you mean an electrical outlet that is only two prongs but you need a three prong outlet?
@@BYOTools Yes! The cord on it right now is very fragile and i wouldn't trust it not to break, so I was gonna replace it with a three-prong but I wasn't sure how to ground it safely.
They don't hold up to heavy use because it's not powder coat. Luckily spray paint is cheap and it can be touched up endlessly. It's quick and simple. The head doesn't even have to be removed from the base.
You did a thoroughly excellent job dude, well done! What would you charge to do something like that, I’m not asking you to I’m just wondering the value of the work because I might do a few of them for some friends.
Please help. I did the repainting job same as you, sanded and used primer then painted. As soon as I put it back together and tilted the tilt head the paint started scratching at the points where the two main parts meet. Also noticing lots of peeling from moving it around etc . Oh Gundny11!! If you're into vintage style black/copper/wood.... I have found many items that are pink (granted, most are pastel pink) with copper lids, accents, etc... and black silhouettes, patterns, etc., elegant looking items from canisters to utensil holders that may tie in your pink mixer. Followed all of these steps exactly and it’s looking beautiful (got the spray paint on) and then realized that i didn’t get spray paint under the speed knob and when I move it side to side it scrapes the paint off 😩 any recommendations for this?
