    OH MY GOSH! I woke up Saturday morning, and my first thought was, "I wish I could somehow paint my Kitchen Aide" to go with my new countertops. Never in a million years did I think it was possible. Then, I watched your video. Well, let's just say that my mixer turned out PERFECT. It was fire engine red, and now it's a beautiful rose gold. I'm in LOVE! Thank you so much for making this video. The only thing you forgot to include was the fight you will likely have with your spouse while doing this project. HAHA. He didn't trust me to spray the primer (he's SUPER detail oriented; I'm not). Well, guess who messed up? LOL

    Nice! A few tips (if I may): the planetary trim ring will tap-off, the chrome insert in the nose will pop-out, mask the brush caps.

    I have the very same one. Getting ready to refinish mine, as it’s better than the new ones. Mine is made by Hobart...the new ones are made by Whirlpool. No comparison. Mine works beautifully. Plus, it was my grandma’s. Thanks for the great video that saved me from buying a new one!

    Thanks for the great directions... used your tutorial to paint my 20+ year old off-white Artisan model... changed out the original off-white Kitchenaid band trim for a silver, replaced the black attachment hub cover with a chrome cover... it looks great. 💙Ordered my Montana Gold Metallic Effects paint from Home Depot for store delivery (no shipping cost) and could not be happier with my “new” Tennessee Blue mixer!

    You have saved me with that 2000 grit sandpaper tip!!! I watched a separate tutorial that didn’t say anything about sandpaper and I thought I was doomed with a crusty feeling mixer! I just went over it with the sandpaper and it’s so smooth! I will also be adding a clear coat. Wondering if it will turn out glossy though, because I actually like how my “mat-look” white looks! Hhmm...?

      Question: Rust-oleum makes a set of "appliance paints" but only in about 5 colors. Are these in any way better, perhaps more durable than their regular paint? How has your paint job on the mixer held up?

    Over hauled our mixer today! Did all steps but still ended up marring it when putting back together! 6 coats of enamel thinking the super thick finish would help but it really didn’t. May end up doing all over again. No one else will see the imperfections but I think over time we are going to scratch it up and will have to redo it again. Looks great for now but only time will tell.

    Hey!! I just bought one of these (looks exactly like this) for 10$ at goodwill to refinish for my girlfriend's birthday. I was wondering, I'm in college and don't have a garage to spray paint in, where would you recommend spaying it? I could do it in the bed of my truck, but then I wouldn't be able to hang it anywhere, think that'd make a difference?
    Also, do you know how hard it'd be to upgrade to a power cord with a ground? Thanks for the video, very helpful i'll definitely be rewatching at least ten times to make sure I don't screw up.

    • @BYOTools
      @BYOTools  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great to hear Caleb and I would suggest you spray it outside. If you have a truck then you could put some type of bar on both side of the truck bed and use a hanger like I did to hang the mixer in the truck. Then spray it from there like i did. Thanks for watching and all the support.
      As for you other question do you mean an electrical outlet that is only two prongs but you need a three prong outlet?

    Can we have an update please? I I am thinking I want to paint my KitchenAid mixer, but I want to know it will withstand the paint and last before proceeding! :)

      Still looks AMAZING with no paint chipping. In all honesty I don't use it very much so it doesn't get a lot of ware and tear but none the less it still looks great. Thanks for watching.

      Corry but don’t have that much experience with mixers. I have seen videos dedicated to disassembling them and reassembled so I would check one of those out. Thanks for watching and hope you enjoyed the video.

      There are vids here on youtube on how to change the grease. The grease breaks down with age/use, it actually liquifies and turns dark. The replacement grease is white and is food grade.

    this is exactly what i'm going to do with mine, i have a barbie pink kitchenaid mixer and it just does not fit into my black/copper/wood themed kitchen.
    but one question, do you need to sand between the top coats or just after the paint ?

    • @BYOTools
      @BYOTools  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. I did not sand between top coats. If you put a few layers on and its not as smooth as you would like give it a light sanding and then finish it off with one last coat of clear just like I did with the paint. Hope that helps.

      Oh Gundny11!! If you're into vintage style black/copper/wood.... I have found many items that are pink (granted, most are pastel pink) with copper lids, accents, etc... and black silhouettes, patterns, etc., elegant looking items from canisters to utensil holders that may tie in your pink mixer. I have a vintage canister set from my mother with copper lids that accent my very primitive, wrought iron, copper and stone kitchen well. Good luck!!

    How long did this take you? I'm not a pro, so I'm assuming this would take me three times as long as it did for you. Thanks in advance.

      All together it took about two to three hours to do but it was done within a two day span since you have to wait for the paint to dry. Thanks for watching.

    Followed all of these steps exactly and it’s looking beautiful (got the spray paint on) and then realized that i didn’t get spray paint under the speed knob and when I move it side to side it scrapes the paint off 😩 any recommendations for this?

    • @BYOTools
      @BYOTools  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't you hate that?!! haha!! Randi I would just lightly sand that area that needs paint. Then spray it with spray paint and clear coat. Just make sure you spray very lightly. Hope that helps and thanks for watching. Hope you subscribed :)
