Home of posh schools like Bryn Mawr, Gilded Age mansions like Ardrossan, a polo club, etc. The Philadelphia Story, a movie about eccentric millionaires was pased on The Main Line.
At 6:24, when you say the Vanderbilts and show a large wedding group - that is John and Jackie Kennedy’s wedding…in RHODE ISLAND!! I’m just not real sure how that could get mixed up! Maybe have people do their research?? The Kennedy’s should’ve been placed in the Newport, RI portion at 7:30.
I had a job one summer tearing down dozens of brand new, hastily built homes that looked really nice on the outside, but were hastily thrown together on poor foundation

His family wouldn’t be qualified as old money because I believe the money was lost in 1929. Somehow, before the end of WWII, part of the same family was doing quite well. Then some “black sheep” family member ended up losing the family wealth due to alcoholism, unpaid gambling debts, and living on credit. The family afterwards worked hard and were quite the extremely frugal sort of people. But, they always invest well 😊. My husband and his parents lived past the Main Line back in the day in Malvern, PA. We all went up for the Super Bowl this past January and really enjoyed staying in Bryn Mawr.

I wonder how people of one old-money community view those of another old-money community. Does a Princeton resident ever say, "Oh, the old dear has really fallen on hard times and is now forced to live among the rif-raf in Hudson Valley. Pity!"?

This is true despite many residents, although not all, coming from families with generational wealth and possibly adopting old money mannerisms and regional eccentricities (ie. the Brunswick School's bushy haircut).
There is a bias of people with generational wealth concerning recognition of quality of life. Money buys, education, better food and clothes, but it is not needed for there to be highest quality of life. It is the reason why the weathy may think necessary to distinguish between old and new. The self-respect and desire to be apart of a community, and there being present agape in the community, ultimately are more significant differences between old and new, and lives which are of good or poor quality. The pursuit for all should be la Dolce Vita, not money! Money will always arrive to allow the person living La Dolce Vita to socialize with others in the category. We are living in a time where there will be great fortunes, and mostly rich people living la Dolce Vita.
I'm thinking that in the long term. The floorplans which require new construction from these homeowners will be regarded by those who come after us. We have the opportunity to build, progress requires us to build better than the past, and we don't have any of their foibals! No one can be perfect, but all of us can start to build at the same time, and each of these structures would represent what was built by people who were patrons and very fair. I think it's best to be known as the fairest epoch with the finest everything, including architecture.
