    Acura as a brand has had many identities. It's been a sports car builder, but the main intention was to bring luxury to Honda in the United states. With the J series engine, all wheel drive, and having ultimate creature comforts the Acura RL was a great daily driver that almost nobody talks about. It's almost a VIP car without having to do the modification yourself. It's definitely a worthy competitor to other cars like the IS300,GS300, and other Japanese cars in it's class. Thanks for watching and see you next video!

    The only reason the RL didn’t raise a lot of dust is cause of it’s price tag. It really won a lot of awards, but the overall price is what kept it out of the spotlight. Seriously though Acura really is King in its class 👑

I absolutely love the interior, younger people will prefer the TL because of the design, me being 30 I am prefer the looks of the RL also the interior is so comfortable bose sound system is amazing. Sleeper car built by Acura. I have a 2006 approaching 176k but runs and drives like brand new. Very smooth on the highway, roomy on longer trips & gets decent gas mileage to say its a 300HP RWD car. Lots of amenities & features. Outside of normal maintenance (timing belt, oil/filters), it's been COMPLETELY RELIABLE. I don't see a lot of em on the road but this is a great car to own if you are looking for a quality used ride without the fear of spending tons of $ (Audi's/BMW, Jaguar) on upkeep and repairs.

    I have a 06 RL and today in 2024 it still has more options than many luxury cars sold today. It also has some of the best body lines. I'm dropped on some H&R springs on some 19" Rodrick wheels, Nighthawk Black Perl on black interior. I get complements everywhere I go the only thing is I always have to tell people it's an Acura because people think it's a Mercedes all the time. The only downside is unlike the TL's there is no aftermarket support at all and oem parts are getting rare and hard to find if you can find them at all.

  • @ericthecarguy
    @ericthecarguy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +40

    Honestly, those cars had more issues before launch than any other Acura made, at least in my career. Good car, but the styling didn't do it for most people and given the price and the issues those cars had, I'm not surprised that it's lost to history.

My 05 RL has 240,000 miles on it and it still idles so smooth and rides like a dream. It’s a phenomenal car. Funny thing is, I bought mine last year for $150. September 2020 it got totaled by a stupid driver trying to run a red-light. Had it since December 2019. I mourn the days when my recent cars break down and ever since then I haven't been able to find a vehicle as bulletproof as this car was. Started everyday, never leaked, never stopped running after endless hours, hell it was so reliable I would just do preventative maintenance just because I would be bored not working on it for awhile. Nonetheless, enjoy what you have while it's yours because you never know what driver is out there to take it away from you. Haven't been able to find one like it since (especially in this used car market now)

    The Acura RL uses the same motor as the 2007-2008 TL Type S and transmission if you have the FWD option. It will give a Type S a run too.

    some other cool facts:
    You can get CMBS (collision mitigation braking system- Automatic emergency braking) along with adaptive cruise control on these 2007 onward
    the SH-AWD Has a torque vectoring rear-axle: up to 80-20 torque distribution, then can send all 100% of the power at the rear axle to the outside wheel. Ive driven one, its really cool to feel when youre on the throttle.
    youve got the electric rear sunshade, and the electronically folding headrests which are nice.
    its also got the bose active noise cancellation
    heated and ventilated seats after 2007 are a nice touch as well.
    the torque vectoring and the load of electronic goodies (electric rear shades, headrests, etc) make this a great (reliable especially) used luxury value. Sure, I see lots of people in the comments arguing over the TL and such. The RL only sold a few thousand a year at most during its life. We've got one that has been through water (an inch or so in the interior from a heavy thunderstorm with the windows open- all electronics still fine) and has even had a brush with fire (no fault of the car- grass in the exhaust from floating hay in standing water) etc. Theyre good cars, while they might not perform like a TL- theyre a good luxury value

    @7:30 E92 M3s do not have a plastic cover over the engine. The intake manifold itself is plastic, and looks fantastic. It can't just be removed unless you take out the airbox and loosen the 8 throttle body clamps. Not sure what you were referring to there, David.

    I've had an 08 RL since new. List 51k paid 43k because the new style had already come out and the dealer wanted to get rid of the old model stock. Now nearly 100,000 miles. First 10 years it was the most trouble free cars of the 6 I've owned. Only rotors outside typical maintenance items like batteries and tires. Now it is starting to develop some minor problems: harmonic drive, alternator, bluetooth, not a lot of money but more time in the shop. Excellent car at almost everything: comfort, safety, beautiful interior, excellent in snow. Around town mileage is poor. They say 26/18 but I get 28/16 mpg.

    Never forgotten! these RLs were ahead of its time, at the time. VTEC can handle pretty much anything. i have a 06 RL with only 90k miles. and i bought it about 2 1/2 years ago @ 33k miles. i am the 2nd owner. i have taken her to many road trips like Nashville TN and she has not let me down. on top of that the paint is still shinning like a pearl. its a Chicago car and cosmetically, she still looks flawless. the countless compliments and offers for my RL makes me feel like i must be doing something right. anyone ever contemplating on buying one, do it! they are reliable and fun to drive. a side from that, they have a SH-AWD drivetrain that works amazing. yes, shes imported, made in JAPAN. for those that might have that question in mind. IMO the only down side is that there arent too many aftermarket parts for this work of art. i kinda want to get another ride just because i dont wanna add a bunch of miles to it. i feel like one day the RL will be a gem. not too many are out there on the road. take care of your ride and it'll take care of you. KB1 out!

Sadly it got totaled in a snow storm but man that was a really great car. I was surprised with how safe they are. It had the 3.2 and i loved that car it looked great and was such a nice car all around, i went from a 91 5 speed s10 regular cab to the acura haha. I still look around from time to time if i can find a 07 or so TL type S with a 6 speed they had the 3.5 but where still fwd. super nice daily car and alot of nice materials and options. another nice car, if you could find one was a 3.2 tsx but you couldnt get the v6 with a stick in that car i dont think. smaller car it just feels more sporty with tighter but still comfy seats.
