INR is worst among Emerging Markets of Asia China, India, South Korea, Phillipines, Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore and Thailand.

The reason why US has put India on currency manipulator list along with some other countries including Japan and South Korea.
ok..then why they did it with china and even put sanctions on them 2-3 years ago? manipulation is done to make currency stronger not. weaker.. Putting in currency manipulator list is nothing with devaluation of currency.

My two cents-
(where I have little bit different opinions)
1. As explained, it is true that RBI balances value of INR by buying or selling foreign currencies.
And, trade deficit negatively impacts Forex reserve of RBI is also true.
But Forex reserves is increasing due to active buying of $ from market by RBI is not representing correct picture.
In case of huge trade deficit, there should be very less $ available in the market, and in that case any buying of $ by RBI will 1. heavily depreciate INR.
2. will increase inflation by supplying more INR in the market and also by making import costlier.
Thus RBI never actively buy Forex to grow it's reserve in trade deficit situation. It only buy or sale Forex to control the value of INR vis a vis Forex.
Rising Forex reserve in India, even after trade deficit is mainly due to passive accumulation of $ due to incoming $
due to high FDI and FPI. It is not due to any active buying of $ by RBI.
2. Present depreciation of INR vis a vis $ is due to rising US Bond Yield.
Any rise or decrease in Bond Yield is cyclical and depends on action of central banks to control inflation or deflation.
Covid19 was extraordinary situation and to revive the economy, Central Banks worldwide, pushed the liquidity in the system.
Now this excess liquidity is creating inflation.
Same is true for US too.
To control this inflation Federal reserve system is planning to suck the liquidity from the system by rise Bond Yield.
This rising Bond Yield and anticipation of further rise compelled FPI to look for safe heaven till Bond Yield and inflation stabilises.
Coming in and going out of FPI are cyclical and nothing big, if we consider long term view.
Because India was on the top of the list in the world when FPI was coming hence it is natural that it is again at the top of the list when it is reversing.
FPI सबसे ज्यादा इन्वेस्टमेंट किया India में तो वापस भी यहीं से जाएगा न, पाकिस्तान से तो नहीं।
3. It is very easy to say that RBI didn't take decisions which were required.
In the economy there are two opposite problems which need attention of any central bank - Control of inflation and boost investment and economic activities.
Post COVID19 RBI kept CRR and Repo rate low to increase economic activities.
Now this increased liquidity in the system is resulting in higher inflation, which is more due to demand side pressure.
Had RBI not taken these measures even then there would have been higher inflation, but more due to supply side constraints.
Any Central Bank has to face same problem and take decisions as per their assessment of the situation

I don't think so.
In case of trade deficit no central bank buy forex from open market.
Trade deficit results in appreciated Forex, buying it from open market will further appreciate value of forex.
Appreciated forex or depreciated own currency cause inflation due to costlier import.
For India it is more so because of higher import price of petroleum products too.
Buying forex by central bank from open market further increases inflation due to high supply of local currency during buying forex.
Even after trade deficit forex reserve is increasing because of FDI and FPI not because of Central Bank actively buying $.
Any central bank has to maintain balance between economic growth and controlling inflation.
During covid19 lock down and there after it was necessary for RBI to push economic growth by increasing liquidity in the system. And Inflation is side effect of this, which can now be controlled by increaing CRR or Repo rate and Reverse repo rate.
Had RBI not pushed the economic growth at that time there would have been inflation due to supply side constrains, which is very difficult to control later on.
