I fully understand the reality of the situation but i'm still sad that the old trijets are going the way of the dinosaurs. MD11, DC10, 727, L1011, all some of the most beautiful planes ever made. the skies ain't the same without 'em.
Because now, there are more advanced aircrafts, in fact, the 3 engined jets like the MD 111 and the Boeing 727 have involved in multiple accidents due to the lack of redundancy or back up systems. The stick shaker ( only the captain has one and the First Officer/co pilot DOESN'T HAVE ONE in the DC 10, where as the Boeing 777 has 2 stickshakers and they have backup systems...
The MD11 market at cargo is pretty unique, no aircraft on the current state has the characteristics of the MD11, so it might has the possibility to go beyond 2030. But Boeing actually is aware of this so there might be a successor coming but not at this moment.

No it doesn't sound like it. The 737 has two different models of pump. On sounds similar, but slightly different than the 757 and the other sounds very different. It is FedEx too so it wouldn't be a 737.
Do you know or you think you know? AC hydraulic system pressure is supplied by a cart NOT by AC electro/hydraulic pumps. Do you see two hydraulic hoses connected to the AC, one is pressure the other is return and you can even spot the cart in the distance. So what are you talking about??? Really!?
@@125brat it's actually quite a bit higher. I believe it's 300 knots or 345 mph. The Md-11 actually can exceed 200MPH on the ground in just the takeoff roll.

At 2:12 you can see the fuselage is angled up while the gear is flat on the ground,then you see the gear tilt once the a.c has lifted. Each a.c is different. the 777 will straighten the gear prior to storing in the wheel well (th-cam.com/video/w4bTPq6qNTs/w-d-xo.html) same with the A330, it retracts and straightens into the bay (th-cam.com/video/-_z-KBTZRVk/w-d-xo.html). It is all mainly for storage.
I love the MD-11. It requires so much overtime to keep flying that it's going to fund my kids' college education.

for some reason middle gears always fascinated me, sadly there are none now ( last ones were in A340s if I am remember correctly)
I think the a340-600 has my favourite landing gear. The way the wing gear tilt back and the middle gear tilt forward is just wonderful

Worked on the C5A. Landing gear retraction was 15 seconds

I hear the hydraulic systems of a 757, 767, or 777 running near by.
There's no other hydraulic systems running near by.
There is an electric pump running that you can hear in the video, but it is not the MD-11's.

Just looking at the doors, it doesn't seem possible that they can stand up to the 200 mph wind.
There is usually a limiting speed for the landing gear extension, which I doubt would be 200mph.

Extension 260 KIAS (300mph)
Down 300 KIAS (345mph)
Retract 230 KIAS (265mph)

The shock struts are perpendicular to the ground so the bogie is kept perpendicular to the shock strut at all times when hydraulic pressure is applied
