I am Incan.. But I unfortunality can´t speak Quechua... But, I'm learning and I'm getting better and better. 2020 Edit: Hey, it's the future me 2 years later, uhh.. well, I've gained a lot of knowledge over the past 2 years and no, I don't really call myself Incan anymore but Andean! I only use Incan when I talk to people who don't really have a clue about Peruvian culture or history.. But yeah, at the end, having a connection to the land/Pachamama and therefore protecting her is everything that matters to me. You can be from anywhere, if we're on the same boat, welcome brother.
The Inca didn't speak Runasimi, they spoke Qhapaq Simi, which wasn't Quechua, but Puquina. The real inca language has died out. Then again there are some descendents of the old noble families still around, so you might be an Inca in that sense.
Magnum Würze Actually inca means emperor in quechua. The spaniards use the quechua word for emperor to name the whole empire, it was never the name of any tribe or clan. The name of the empire was Tawantinsuyu. No one really has a clue where the incas (tawantinsuyu's emperors) came from. We had no writing system. Just quipus that til this day is hard to solve it's mystery.
"i am an inca"... uhh, no. "inca" means emperor in Runa Simi. there are no emperors left. rather than identify with an extinct empire, why not find your family's actual ethnic ('tribal") group & identify as such rather than this sensationalized stuff we as hispanicized Latin Americans get into "i am inca! i am aztec!" find your actual people. indigenous peruvians arent a relic of the past (like the Inka empire). we are living people with connections to living ethnic groups.
Truth D. Antagonist “tribal” we are not Hollywood Native Americans to hold on to that stereotype just because they call us “Indians”. I don’t see Chinese people calling themselves after extinct tribes. The Quechua people formed part of a nation of four united regions called tawantinsuyu. Go argue with mestizos who use the word Latin despite they have little to do with Italy if any. Latin was a tribe from Rome and later became an ethnic group. Gay use to mean happy and dic#& use to mean Richard. Things change, to us Inca means children of the Sun which no longer includes only the dead Emperors and it’s a widely used term around the world that it’s easier to use than extinct tribes like puruha, maucachi, otavalo, kitu Kara, nazca, etc. We can’t even use Quechua or Quichua because people don’t know what that means. Inca at a international level is well known. Our extinct tribes of Quechua speaking territory is not Iike Apache which people know thanks to Hollywood. And my auto correct knew the word Apache immediately, there is a red line underneath all the tribes I mentioned of tawantinsuyu. We call ourselves by language or community which is never define as a tribe. An otavalo person(otavaleno) can be white if he is born in otavalo, you don’t have to be Indian. Same for a quiteño. Might as well correct the word quiteño and tell them it’s suppose to be kitu karas if you want everything frozen in time. We call ourselves runas but no one knows what that means so we use kichwas or Incas internationally. Just like Navajo call themselves dine but they use Navajo internationally even though it’s incorrect. Kichwa is Ecuadorian Quechua, a dialect of Peruvian Quechua. Inca brings us closer together since we share the same history under the rule of the Incas.

My grandma is from the mountains in Peru and she only spoke Quechua. When she was brought to Lima she was forced to learn Spanish and dress like people from the capital. She now doesn't speak any Quechua mainly because she chooses not to. My mom then told me it was because people from Lima and other white washed places in Peru look down on people who speak Quechua and are not white 😢

Latin is not a transliteration. It is a full writing system. It is not hardly official, but the only system used by Quechua speakers. The only real issue with Latin is a fight over which orthography to use, the five vowel or the three. Also, Bolivia prefers J over H. Those that don't due to "Western connotations" are just robbing themselves from actually expressing themselves in their own tongue through writing unless they want to be the Quechua Sequoyah.
Nathan Nguyen I dont know about peru but kichwa from ecuador is basically simpler if we just use roman letters. There is no phonetic sounds that are different from the roman alphabet. On the contrary roman alphabet has more phonetic sounds than we have, such as x, z, d, for example. we use roman style while eliminating the letters we have no use of. I dont think we need to copy secuoyah, cherokee has their own style.
Look. Funny joke. But this is actually the repressed language of my slaughtered ancestors and what's left of them. So instead, respect would be appreciated. And cultural sensitivity. If you know what that is.
Andrew Monsalve Well, my culture deals with tragedy with humor so maybe you should display some of that cultural sensitivity yourself. It goes both ways.
kungfuman82 Interesting that you assume you come from the same culture as the original commenter. Assuming you are, no culture deals with ALL tragedies using humor. But all cultures have members who will sometimes use humor for tragedy. Your culture didn’t invent this. Maybe you can “deal with” *MY* cultures tragiedies using respect. Makes me wonder if your culture also has a history of violent colonization. Hmmm.
No it isnt. I cannot understand a single word. This fan website says this... Greedo's dialogue. Bruce Mannheim described Greedo as speaking "morphologically well-formed" phrases of Southern Quechua, though the sentence is ultimately meaningless.

Ended up here because I saw a meme mentioning this language. I enjoy studying languages as a hobby, I might pick this one up one day once I got Spanish down. I've always been interested in the clicking languages.
TUPANANCHISKAMA...
Same story here. I'm peruvian, yet I can't speak spanish to save my life!, Not gonna get anywhere if I can't even speak spanish-would still love to learn some quechua eventually.

i'm from ecuador this is one of the many languages spoken and it's so hard to learn
Do you speak any at all? Do you have any pronunciation tips? How similar is the pronunciation to Spanish?
nope
Donald Lungrin Quechua (called Kichwa in Ecuador) is completely different from Spanish. It's quite a difficult language to learn.

If ur from Ecuador then why do you speak english?, isn’t it better to speak in ur own language?

*I speak English/ Portuguese and a few Spanish, I am going to learn French too*
Ended up here because I saw a meme mentioning this language. I enjoy studying languages as a hobby, I might pick this one up one day once I got Spanish down. I've always been interested in the clicking languages.
I'm from mexico and we speak yucatec maya and latino we also like the song called havana oh nana camilla cabello
TUPANANCHISKAMA...
Y cuál es el idioma fácil?
The Inca language never had an original written form right? It was just a spoken language. I heard this somewhere.
ZaqueHunzahua Interesting... (i find ancient cultures or civilizations like the Inca very interesting)
Correct, although some experts believe that quipus hold a written system but most agree that it was just used for recording calculations
Same story here. I'm peruvian, yet I can't speak spanish to save my life!, Not gonna get anywhere if I can't even speak spanish-would still love to learn some quechua eventually.

" Runasimi " - what does this word mean ???? Please an answer !
Thank you.
It means Quechua or "people's language."
Runa is "an indian person", Simi "language" = Runa simi "an indian person's language"
In quechua Runa means "Man" (indan man, native man, is not white man) and simi means "Tongue"
Thank You !
runa simi also means Quechua

Ari amiguchay. Q'osqoruna cani, sumaq kaypacha!, Maimanta canqui?, Qoscomanta?

You're using symbols like ë, ö etc., is this the actual, official way of writing in Quechua?
Yes
