Hi Kat, I just wanted to take a minute and thank you for making these videos. Every Monday I watch your videos and I get so excited to write and your videos just make me want to write all the time. Good luck with you book, I really hope it gets published one day. I just wanted to let you know that you inspire me so much. Thank you for these writing videos!
I getchu about TH-cam.. people can be mean on here. I loved this though. Your writing videos are my fav thing. And your makeup by the way... I mean what a babe🔥
I’m sorry you don’t enjoy making videos as much as you used to. I hope you find the passion for it again (especially since it seems to be your main income now) but if there ever comes a point where you feel like you really, really, really don’t want to be on YT anymore (be it temporarily or indefinitely), then you should do what’s best for you, I’ll support you no matter what. 💕
Your lgbt+ comment made me smile!! Especially because I lowkey DNF a lot of books popular on booktube because it's a 100% cishet cast like you said. I need gay. You were already my fave content creator, but that made it even better :)
Loved hearing about the videos you are planning! I'm so pumped for all of them! Also glad to hear you are thinking about publishing. I hope you document as much of that experience as you are comfortable with because I'm fascinated!
Years ago, I came across a website that sold mugs with very short stories on them. I've been thinking of doing that recently, and I found the site is no longer there. But I can use CafePress and other sites to sell my stories on a mug. -- In my search for that site, I came across a Drabble site. I don't know if the mug's story word count is 50 or 100, so MiniSagas might work best on a mug. Drabbles are 100 words & MiniSagas are 50 words. -- And then I thought, why not put short works on various products? T-Shirts, Totes, Calendars, Journals, etc. *shrugs* Several authors I follow online say a good marketing tactic is to Indie-Publish short works in order to try and bring in a small income while you write and try to Traditional Publish a novel. You can put five 500 word Flash Fiction stories totaling 2500 words into an eBook, and put two or three Short Stories that total at least 2500 words into an eBook, and one Short Story that is at least 2500 words into an eBook, and put a bunch of MiniSagas, Drabbles, & Flash Fictions that total at least 2500 words into an eBook and keep creating more and more of them to gain readers and attention. You can connect some of them to works you plan on publishing traditionally. And when you have enough of them, you can Indie-Publish them in paperback edition. Maybe getting short works out there and getting a small group of readers can help keep a beginning writer motivated to continue working on the novel and trying to find an agent and Traditional Publisher. One can only hope. So, use these ideas if they seem like your cup of tea, or just disregard them if they're not something you'd be interested in doing.
Kaaaatttt! That spark you gave me to write finally followed through and I actually got some stuff down! And I was proud of and happy with it! Granted, it was a measly three pages, but it still felt amazing after being in such a slump for so long (YEARS)! Thank you for the inspiration!! ❤️❤️❤️
Hey Kat, I can understand that TH-cam can be not fun and make you feel how you feel, but don’t forget that TH-cam isn’t just uploading and scheduling and about money. Also look at it in the way of expressing yourself and your writing process and all the people you are doing it for! Never forget why you started TH-cam in the first place. Think about just how you felt while you were filming this video. How all those video ideas popped into your head and make you passionate once again. I hope this will help you. And I love seeing this project of you, like really love love seeing it. It’s so amazing and I holds my attention on every video the whole friggin time!
Just remember JK Rowling got rejected dozens of times before getting picked up for Harry Potter. Can you imagine a world without HARRY FREAKING POTTER?!?!?! Keep trying and dont stop trying to get published!
Honestly, watching your process with the idea of "this is done for this draft" was kind of revolutionary to me. You obviously hear that everyone should be writing a terrible first draft, but getting to actually see you intentionally leave things rough and unfinished really gave me a concrete picture of how to do that. I've set up my NaNoWriMo story goals with that idea in mind, and hopefully that goes well. Thanks for posting these videos!
Watching the videos that have followed your writing journey have been an absolute gift. So inspiring! Plus, it's very helpful to get an in-depth look at how other writers do their thang. Thank you for the excellent content! Good luck on the next stages!
Thank you for posting these writing videos, they are really inspiring me. I know a lot of people have said this before, but this has inspired me to get back to writing. I have let my stories gather dust too long. It is time for me to get off my butt and start writing again. Thank you for the inspiration.
I don't recall where this writing advice came from, but it stated that after finishing the first draft of book one, a writer should then start working on book two ... and once finished with the first draft of book two, to go back and edit/rewrite book one until it is publishable, then start working on book three ... and once finished with the first draft of book three, to go back and edit/rewrite book two until it is publishable, then start working on book four. I think this routine is supposed to give the writer time and space between a first draft and the editing/reworking process, and also to have two projects always in progress. *shrugs* (Or maybe the advise was for beginning writers to try and keep them writing? If they have two first drafts done before editing/reworking one of them they will have developed a life-long working habit?) Just sharing should anyone think this suggestion is their cup of tea. If it isn't, just disregard.
I can't wait to see one of your boks on shelves one day, but I also get you before I tutored for free at like a place where there were other's the kids could act etc. and like I didn't even have to tutor a lot every time but now even if i still LOVE it (couldn't imagine another part time job) there's pressure of knowing all the things and being able to explain them, which like 5 kids, different ages, subjects and schools not to mention my own uni home work ending me like the balance is hard to find, but I think I'm getting closer to being okay with not knowing everything and doing my best again
To draft my NaNo story this year I'm using a mesh up of your 27 chapter outline and a few of Brandon Sanderson's methods to create an "outline" and I've been blogging about my progress and have been referencing your channel quite a bit.
Book better be released. Dummy template should be haunted tattoo one Your videos inspire me sooo much to write and help me a log with the process especially your outlining video because I've never outlined before so had no idea how to start so ty :)
absolutely no shade on other people's writing process- everyone works differently- but I just don't understand how you guys do anything other than chronological order while writing. I get so thrown off when I try to jump around. how do you guys do that stuff? It amazes me.
Thank you for answering my comment! I'm really sorry TH-cam isn't fun for you anymore, although I am so glad you do it because it inspires me to write my own book and possibly start my own channel! Don't give up on Book, Kat! I can say safely I will love it!
for the dummy scrivener project you should just do a rough outline of like harry potter or acomaf or something that will be simple for you to go through
These videos have been so helpful and it's been lovely to follow along on this journey. I'm also super excited about the videos you talked about in this one. I'm sorry you don't like TH-cam as much anymore, but I totally get it. Have a great week!
I have such a problem naming things and this used to actually hold me back from writing things. In 2015 I started writing the first book of the first series I've ever completed (it was the first time I really ever got good writing done) and I started having characters that I couldn't figure out names for and I didn't want to slow myself down so I just gave them placeholder names such as: Thug1, Thug 2, and my favorite Lord BLAHBLAH
Yes please make a video about varying structures I am struggling so much to outline for the first time and this structure feels a little rigid for how little i know about my story so far
So I've been working on a novel since 2016 and I'm in love with it. A month ago I discovered a site called Artists&Clients where you can commission artists based on their art style to make drawings/paintings for you. And OMG! My life has changed. I have 5 characters done and one monster. And i'm commissioning an artist to paint my world/environment. It is the greatest thing ever.
Your videos get me so excited to write! Thank you Kat! Also, I LOVE Science-Fantasy. I can't wait to read Book once it gets published (which I'm sure this one will ;)).
Great video as always! I keep going back and forth about making my writing process videos. I've seen how mean people can get and I don't know if I want to be a part of that.
i feel you on the query thing, i've queried 2 books & my second one got so close i had one agent ask to read it once and then read it again, edited and it still wasn't right and it was really devastating and made me feel like a failure for a while and im just now for this nanowrimo getting ready to write a book i wanna try and get published again
I very much relate to not being able to name things and using placeholder names - a character from my current wip has been called "xxx" for 35k words now. There are countless more examples.
I used a lot of place holder names in my draft last year, although rather then 'friend' or 'love interest' they were, Hades, Aladdin, Cersei and Lafayette. :P
PLEASE tell me you're gonna vlog your editing/revising process! I want to see your revising process since I've honestly never done that to anything I've written.

am i coming across as rude? i dont want to and fun fact i actually found you bc of your nanowrimo 2012 volgs you inspired me then and you still do now. your awesome you were the very first youtuber/ Writer that i found. keep writing if you still want to and i wish you well
Okay not writing related but can you like...teach me how you do your eye makeup ok thx. :D I like the idea of writing official drafts in Word, I've never thought of that before! I also use Scrivener for outlining and the rough draft, but it totally makes sense to use Word to force yourself to write chronologically haha. LOVE your song choices! Watch out for placeholder names -- one of my main character's names started as a placeholder and then it stuck. Whoops I guess lol. Your process is super interesting to hear about! I'm a huge structure nerd and I love love love the charts and graphs and plot outlines you do! In regards to TH-cam, I know burnout is a very real thing and when anything becomes tied to income, it loses some of its allure. Creative people like to create, and involving money tends to suck the fun out of doing so. While I applaud your success on booktube and wish you all the best, I hope writing can continue to be something purely enjoyable for you! I can see how the idea of publishing might threaten that, but hopefully all goes well, you get to see Book in print, and we all get to read it ;)
Omg I just love this and you a lot! I really hope you do become published because I would love to support you in book publishing world, but once again I volunteer to beta read whenever you want! Also hecka relatable with the lgbtqa+ characters thing that I need to make a video about. ❤️😍😘😘👏🏻😻👍🏻🤗❤️
it makes me so sad that you dont enjoy youtube anymore.... just know that we love you kat and if you want to post less or not post at all its totally fine and we can follow your work another way!!!
I can't be the only one imagining Kat's head is floating? Maybe my brightness is just really low... Anyway lylxx you've inspired me to participate in Nanowrimo this year despite school and shiz. Tysm for just existing ❤️❤️

yeah i've definitely considered self-pub (ideally i plan to both self pub and trad pub) but the query process is not really a factor in the equation. most of my publishing reservations are related to just the simple fact of the book being available for public consumption, and the affect that will have on my life and mental health
Well hopefully one day I will log on and see that some of these stories are available :) My interest is peaked! I am really enjoying these writing vlogs. Inspiring! It is also nice to see you so happy with writing this one. 9 days until Nano! Woo hoo!

For the dummy/example template for the scrivener video you can do a super rough draft of the haunted tattoo story!
