That song still goes hard today! I come back to that often. "I have the mind of a sick psychiatric/ proteges perish/ with my tactics!" When he said his mom made him read the dictionary, I believe that.
One of my fav of all time. This brother pioneered and influenced a lot in Hip Hop and brought consciousness with it but has been sadly overlooked. Peace to the God Tragedy Khadafi and to Queens for making these legendary emcees and producers. 💯
@@hassanburton669 yeah thanks man great minds think alike they always say he's nas is like g rap and rakim but he damn sure studied the hell outta Tradge ,,,peace
I remember when he first came out. I was like shorty super nice with the pen, especially for his age at the time. I’ve always said he fathered the whole Queens Bridge flow. I’m not including Shan because he didn’t rhyme like them. Also I definitely think he could’ve held his own on the Symphony no doubt. Great intelligent interview
Another great conversation Soren. I, too, as a youth was taken by Trag’s reference to Pegasus. Especially as confidently as it was mentioned verbally in the verse. It sounded creative and majestic. That’s what made that period of MCing so magical. These guys were pushing themselves. With Trag being so young and so ill, hearing him blew my mind. He was a young prodigy. When I first heard Nas, I thought he was Trag with a deeper rasp. When Nas said he was a “rebel to America”, I thought it was a wink to Trag fans. That’s comparably how nice Trag had already been up til that point.
Some of the best songs on that 'In Control Vol. 1' album came from Tragedy and him on 'The Symphony' would've been CRAAAAAZY, man! I think Marley would've put him right behind Craig G in the lineup tho, the middle man. Great interview!!
One of my favorite emcees of all time, dropping heat FOR OVER 35 YEARS! Songs like Grand Groove, Street Life, True Confessions, to now a 25 Across the Planet are always in rotation.

A very overlooked emcee. Before his time. The Intelligent Hoodlum is until this day one of my favorite albums. I wanted it so bad I stole my cousin's tape.
Trag played the Blueprint that was used for what is Quoted as the Greatest Hip Hop Album of all time “ILLMATIC” , without him his his life & style of Ryme . No Havoc , C.N.N or Nas, they All elevated that’s obvious but he is Doctor Jay to Jordan without question
Good interview but I was really hoping he would ask about the "Illmatical" reference on Rebel is Here. I always felt Nas took Tragedy's Intelligent Hoodlum vibe and ran with it. Granted, Nas flow is different but his use of deep vocabulary mixed with hood references was the blueprint Tragedy already scripted. Far as I can tell, it seemed like Atlantic Records made Tragedy change directions in terms of content to a more pro-black stance trying to get that Public Enemy / X-Clan appeal marketing wise. If you need proof, search for the original demo version of Intelligent Hoodlum on TH-cam. The first verse was different and more in line with the second verse which was his original steez. Honestly, I'm not mad at Nas but if I was Trag, I couldn't help but feel a little salty seeing the heavy influence but no real acknowledgement. Nobody else in QB rhymed like that before him and Tragedy was ahead of his time. ✊🏾
Legendary rapper no doubt and I am a supporter of Trag, but this dude's business acumen sucks ass, still alot of European rappers who are mad at Trag for stealing feature money from the MySpace 2005 era smfh
Tragedy is the most underrated rapper and should be considered a hip hop pioneer. Truly he is the intelligent hoodlum!
The Live Motivator
The Rebel
Live motivator is the blueprint for NaS and the QB style
That song still goes hard today! I come back to that often. "I have the mind of a sick psychiatric/ proteges perish/ with my tactics!" When he said his mom made him read the dictionary, I believe that.
Honored to be mentioned on this historic interview..salute to mi general Tragedy Khadafi aka The Intelligent Hoodlum!
