Thank you for the discussion of the differences in syrups. I have golden syrup and just assumed it was simple syrup that cooked the sugar a little longer to give it a more golden caramel color. Your explanation shone a nice light for some of us that didn't realize we've been confused this whole time!

No problem! It's actually an inverted sugar syrup. I talk more about it in my apple dappy video. These less common ingredients in the US need an explanation sometimes!

Golden syrup as K says is an inverted sugar syrup. Incredibly common in the UK, every cupboard will have some. It's very sweet with a mild caramel flavour, hedging towards honey.

Thank you for sharing this delicious slice of European history! My homeschooler and I came across this video while studying Swedish immigrants and pioneers in the Midwest. We loved the music you chose and your teaching style. We are definitely subscribing! 🙂

I love rye bread but also love breads with subtle caraway notes and sweetness. I'm in the process of moving and feel like I'm racking up quite a list of recipes to try once I have a functional kitchen again.

The recipes will be here when you have time! 😉 Let me know which ones you end up trying and how they turn out for you. Good luck with the move!

Thanks for the recipe. Have been looking for a good syrup bread recipe but haven't found anything that looks promising until now.
I myself am Swedish and would also like to add a little curiosity. A fairly common lunch bag when you're out on a day trip where I grew up is butter-fried syrup bread with a fried egg.

Nice recipe. But as you mentioned normally the no slice and instead of Honey butter is used to give give it shiny and so that it stat moist is for longer time.👌

I made this today and it delicious! Question though- should it be sticky? I thought the golden syrup would dry as it cooled, but mine didn’t. Did I miss something?

It's pretty sticky, even after cooling. I do agree that's one downside to the bread. But the taste makes up for it!

I heard that the Swedes add sugar to everything but I thought this observation was exaggerated, however after watching this video I'm not so sure 😄. Still the taste of this bread must be interesting. Have you tried it for sandwiches? I suspect it may not go well with ham or sausages. Btw, I don't like caraway seeds either but I discovered that their taste is less annoying when you grind them. Great video as always, it's visible that you feel much better and more confident in front of the camera now.

Yes! I've used it for sandwiches. It's really good! It really isn't that sweet, even with the golden syrup. I thought it made great sandwiches. And thank you 😊 It's quite difficult staring at a black hole and talking to it 😂 It's taken a lot of practice-I'm glad my efforts are paying off!
