Thank you so much for this video! The exact same thing just happened at dusk here in downtown Little Rock, Arkansas. Thousands of chimney swifts circled and drained down into a very tall, 100+ year-old chimney on the grounds of the historic St. Andrew Catholic Church. Tomorrow morning they will pour out of there like smoke. Same thing happened about a week ago. What a glorious thing to witness. I suspect this flock and its ancestors have been stopping here to rest for decades.
That's a LOT of swifts! Did anyone count them all? There are no reports of chimney swifts at all at that location on www.eBird.org. One of those Audubon folks might want to post a count from that location last year. Great video.
Marge Innaverra Marge, I'm so sorry I missed your comment. Someone from the Birmingham Audubon club made an extensive survey of the site with lots of counts. I'm surprised it didn't show up at eBird.
