I was also an early backer. Game changer. Love mine - ride it around NYC all the time. Convinced two friends to get one too. Longer range than Boosted and much much cheaper, and quieter. Mine did have a motor problem on one wheel after one month and had to be sent for repair. They sent it back out the same day they received it. The only thing I wish is it was a little lighter.
That's good to know Acton was very quick with your motor repair. They were also very responsive when my charger broke. I agree with you it's a very nice board! An app for the watch would be nice, but I'm honestly a bit skeptical they could pull it off well :)
How’s ur motor if you still have the Acton S2? I have 2 s2 boards with one motor not working on each board, one board also doesn’t turn on/stay on. When it worked it rode great, I moved everything from one of my Acton board to Evolve bamboo board and it rode even better. Currently both boards one of the motors is not working.....motors on Acton breaks way too easily and too often. Trying to still decide if I should send it back to have them fix it, it will a little over $200 each. TT
Ive had my s2 for about 2 weeks now and I love it. The power is second to none and top speed is just right for the size of the board. Very well done in depth review
This video was so well done. Bro, I'm genuinely loving your vids! It's really refreshing to see a DIYer's perspective on some of the popular prebuilt boards out there! Appreciate this video! - Neil
Wow. That was a damn good review. I like your commentary. You sound like you know what you're talking about. You are totally right about apps for electric skateboards. Apps are useless. PS: I'm going to glue some protective foam to protect that battery cover.
John 1112 Thanks! I'd guess the marketing teams are insisting on the apps :). Adding protective foam is a good idea! The low-profile battery on the S2 leaves plenty of room under the deck.
Only the front and rear lights can be turned on/off (using the app). The side lights are always on when the board is on, which is something I think they should change.
I think one of the main differences that may potentially dissuade people from buying the Acton is the flex. The boards that you mentioned e.g. boosted/koowheel all have a lot of flex like a longboard while the S2 rides more like a rigid skateboard. A board with less flex will generally result in a bumpier ride. I'm torn between the S2 and other longboards right now but the quality that you mentioned has definitely made me lean towards the Acton more. Thanks for the informative review :)
Jessie Zou Thanks, I'm glad the video was helpful! I think you're right that having flex makes the ride smoother. The S2 is shorter (32 inches) than most longboards (36 - 38 inches), so it depends on your preference.
Thanks! I'm working on the next video now :). I haven't tried the Blink S. It seems nice for a lighter board. I think the $700 Acton is asking is a bit high for a single motor board with shorter range. Hopefully you can find a better deal.
Oren's Projects , yeah I hope so too, but my concern with other boards is most don't have lights. it is going to start getting dark sooner and i still want to skate
Hello Oren, I am thinking of getting a BLINK S2, i would be very interested in hearing from you about if you are still having a good experience with your Acton board. Even the shortest reply would be appreciated, thanks.
kinda late but better later than never right? When did i get it? I got mine august 2017 bag+ helmet second-hand 450 USD How did i modify and ride it? I treat it like garbage throw it around a lot of silicone the ESC and battery and enclosure because I live near the beach and hence ride it in the flood sometimes and almost always in the rain as a throwaway board for wet days. Is it still running? Yes working perfectly other than some deep scratches and the front end and kick tail having bits snapped off. If you can still get it for 220 in working condition it is a steal but don't pay more than 300. There are better alternatives right now and the board is more of a commuter than anything else.
Hey man! How’d it hold up after 3 years?? Getting one for 220 second hand and was wondering if u had any complains down the line?? Just trying to be open minded but I feel 220 is a good deal :)

6yrs later, the app has finally been removed from the app store. I have the smaller Blink S board. Weirdly, although the remotes look the same, there is a toggle switch on the Blink S remote in the battery compartment to change modes. Thank goodness. I cannot control the head/tail lights anymore though. I may see if there is a way to install the app another way. I liked having the odometer to know how far i’ve ridden the board in total. The battery had become marginal so i’m going to rebuild the pack using the original strip BMS, and spot-weld 10 new Samsung cells onto it. The BMS looks fairly simple so i’m optimistic that it will function with the new cells. I’ll know soon.
I only dealt with customer service the 1 time I mention in the video when the charger broke. In that case, they responded quickly with a replacement and I had a good experience. I really don't know how they handle bigger problems or if they've gotten worse.
I just recently picked up an blink s1 with the updated battery battery design and new style grip tape. This thing is beast and I love it . How ever I crave more speed. I wish acton offered a trade up program . I would love to trade up to an s2 .
The new S1 you got sounds nice! If you're often carrying the board while commuting, the smaller and lighter design of the S1 might be worth the trade-off with speed and more range.
got mine a couple weeks ago and people are allways so amazed by the s2 it's a amazing board lol Ps:you can get a s2 for the indegogo price you just have to look around on there Facebook page and ask if anyone's selling.
Great review! I agree with everything you said about the board. I do wish it had a little flex to it though. When I'm going over the sidewalk I really feel every crack. That and the weight are my only criticisms. I carry mine around when I'm not riding it and the weight is a little cumbersome.
Michael Romani Thanks! Yeah, flex is nice for a smooth ride. It tends to be a tradeoff when making a shorter board. Because the S2 is only 32 inches and has a bit of a kicktail, even if the board had more flex it probably wouldn't help much because your feet are almost directly over the trucks while riding.
I ordered my s2 in may and payed around 780$ because of some nice discount codes :) but i still have to wait for it... Do you think it would be possible to change the board to an longboard? So installing the trucks and the batterypack on a longer board?
Andreas Lay That's awesome you got a deal on your S2. I know it's annoying having to wait for the board :). I wouldn't recommend trying to change the deck on the S2. The enclosure for the battery and electronics is nicely integrated into the deck. Also, the metal enclosure wouldn't handle the flexing of a longboard. If you have a deck in mind that you like I'd consider building a board. www.electric-skateboard.builders is a good website to start checking out builds people have done. I'll be posting more about my builds soon.
have to agree...this was an outstanding review. Action has these on their sight for 599 right now so was considering it as a second eboard for when i have a friend around. thanks for the review
Thanks! So far the board is still working perfectly - although I have other boards so I only ride it sometimes. My drone is a Mavic Pro, which I still like despite the annoying software updates that take forever and the heavy-handed geo-fencing.
Oren's Projects Very nice! I have the same drone too. I bought the board recently. I have used a skateboard in years so it's taking a bit of time to get comfortable with it but I have to say I like the quality so far. Besides the cheap remote lol.
I haven't tested the S2 in wet conditions much but I think it will be as good as any other electric skateboard. Water will likely shorten the life of any board so you might be better off buying an inexpensive board or building your own so you can be ready to replace parts as needed. An inexpensive board that looks interesting is meepoboard.com, although I haven't tested it. I'll post a video soon showing an inexpensive build I made.
Thanks! I've ridden the S2 a bit more but honestly been mostly riding a DIY board I'm making a video for. I'll post again about the S2 once I get more time with it.
it has been basically six months that you have this board. what is your general opinion of this board?, what i am trying to say, did worth it? Have you ever thought about selling this board? and last question, you said that you are a developer. Which language do you code? thanks and nice video
Thanks! The Blink S2 has been great. It's very well built. The only minor thing I had to do is occasionally re-tighten some of the bolts. I still stand behind everything in the review. If you can find a good deal, I would definitely recommend buying one. I have no plans to sell mine. I used to code in C/C++ and Java. These days mostly in javascript and sometimes Python for scientific/ML stuff. Go seems interesting, but I haven't had time to learn it yet.
Spawn and Batman I would guess you'd be fine with the S2 in most situations. I'm about 170 lbs. and the motors have no problem getting me up hills and never get very hot. The board was recently released so the long-term durability is still unknown. Obviously climbing many steep hills or riding on very rough surfaces will stress the motors more.
Oren's Projects right yeah that makes sense though. I'm gonna get the s2 it looks like a very good board. Hopefully I can see an update video from you as far as durability. The boost boards are to expensive
I've never ridden the Ego 2. It could be ok if you really want a belt drive. I think dual hub motors will be more powerful and reliable. Many people also seem to like meepoboard.
I still think this is a very well built board but there are many other options now. Boards like Meepoboard, verreal, and ownboard seem like very capable boards that are significantly cheaper (under $450). Those boards basically use the same components I also used in my longboard build videos. I would say the build quality of the S2 is definitely better though - and Acton probably provides better support if something breaks. I guess it depends on your priorities. I just happened to look at the Acton website and it looks like the S2 is now $599 (I'm not sure if that includes shipping), which is getting closer in price.
Thanks! The boosted board is well made, but a bit too expensive in my opinion. When the Boosted V1 was first release there weren't many other good options. There are many good options now - including building your own :)
nice review. help me with my decision to choose this board. anyone else interested should check amazon today as it is on sale for $799, but strangely, when you check out you get another $160 off the board so it is $639+ tax. amazing deal.
It is a bit expensive. I think it's better built than most cheaper boards though. I guess it depends how much someone wants to pay for that difference, and if they like the design.
The bad thing about action blink S2 is the hub motors, they break very easily and it cost over $200 to have acton fix it.....they will not sell or send you a new motor.
That sucks about Acton support. It is a nice board. It's too bad Acton isn't good about fixing them. I honestly don't ride mine that much because I've been using my other DIY boards.
You did a nice job with this video. You are holding way to much shit. If you wipe out, about 5 expensive things are going to break including you...jus sayin'.
I bought one for a 1000 bucks, and i want to say DO NOT BUY IT, it's terrible quality, the customer service is terrible too. After only 5 months it was already destroyed, there was no lights, one motor left and all the screws were almost destroyed. Please save money and DO NOT BUY THIS, it was the worst decision to buy this crap.
Sorry to hear about your bad experience. It's messed up Acton hasn't kept up the good service. Thanks for telling people about it. I think all electric skateboards tend to take a beating so maybe it's best to not spend too much money and be able to replace the parts yourself. I hope you're able to get your board working well.
I rode it for around 6 months on regular concrete roads, never under the rain, and after 5 months the app was not connecting to the skateboard anymore so i couldn't change the mode. And then 1 month later all the screws were being unscrewed when i was riding because of the bad quality of those screws which are name "nilstops" because they are supposed to avoid those type of problems, and then 10 days later my left motor was not working anymore and the holes where the screws were, were way wider than normal, leading to the rubber beneath the trucks to break, it was torn apart and i fell in the middle of the road, which is dangerous but happily it was around 6 am there was not a lot of cars. So definetly worst skateboard i've ever bought, i recommend boosted board, they are more expensive but now i've realised that i prefer to pay more and keep a skateboard for 4 years, than paying 1k which is a bit less and having to throw it away after 7 months, and getting treated like shit by Acton
You broke a $1000 board in 5 months ~~~~ I’ve had my board for about three months close to 1000 miles now.......rides and looks as if it was new. Things tend to last longer when you maintain and take care of it. =P
Would also be nice to have an Apple Watch app to be able to see speed and battery life while riding without grabbing my phone.
That's good to know Acton was very quick with your motor repair. They were also very responsive when my charger broke. I agree with you it's a very nice board! An app for the watch would be nice, but I'm honestly a bit skeptical they could pull it off well :)

Thanks! I agree the S2 is a great board!
I’ve had mine for a week. It’s battery broke after abt ten miles and I have just put in the help ticket.
This is by far the most thorough review of this board out there. Great job
Thank you!
This video was so well done. Bro, I'm genuinely loving your vids! It's really refreshing to see a DIYer's perspective on some of the popular prebuilt boards out there! Appreciate this video!

Hey Neil, thanks for the support! I appreciate all the great videos you're making too. Keep it up!

Only the front and rear lights can be turned on/off (using the app). The side lights are always on when the board is on, which is something I think they should change.
Yes. It's strange. It's a waste of battery.
You riding with that tablet gave me anxiety

Thanks! I'm glad it was helpful.
Why such a small sub #? Are you new to the channel or only put out video's once in a while? Nice job once again. You got another sub here bruh.
Philip Rosenthale I just created this channel a few weeks ago. Thanks for the sub, I appreciate the support!
have to agree...this was an outstanding review. Action has these on their sight for 599 right now so was considering it as a second eboard for when i have a friend around. thanks for the review

Awesome! Yeah, it takes a bit of time to get used to every new board. I'm sure you'll pick it up quickly.
I live in a place where there is rain often... would you say its safe to use it under moderate to small rain?

nice, im getting into ML/BIG DATA/ANALYTICS area as well. regards from Brazil
Awesome! I think that's one of the more interesting areas of computing now. Brazil looks like a nice place for skateboarding :)
Oren's projects I'm 6ft 210 lbs. Will I be to heavy for the board? I don't want to burn the motor out because of my wait.
Spawn and Batman I would guess you'd be fine with the S2 in most situations. I'm about 170 lbs. and the motors have no problem getting me up hills and never get very hot. Spawn and Batman Great, yeah, I'll try to post another S2 video once I get more miles on it.
What do you think about Yuneec Ego 2 if speed wasn’t your concern?
I've never ridden the Ego 2. It could be ok if you really want a belt drive. I think dual hub motors will be more powerful and reliable. Many people also seem to like meepoboard.
Oren's Projects thanks!
Is this board still worth getting or do you think there are better boards at this price point?
I still think this is a very well built board but there are many other options now. what song did you use for this video
"Wagon Wheel" from incompetech.com. I like the piano.
Great review :) I have a boosted board V1 but i think the power is too much for me so this is a good alternative (Cheaper too)!
Thanks! The boosted board is well made, but a bit too expensive in my opinion. When the Boosted V1 was first release there weren't many other good options. There are many good options now - including building your own :)
oren's project can you please make a project that looks like kickr skateboard that is discontinued now?
I haven't heard of it before. Looks like it uses a friction drive. I think hub motors are a better solution.
nice review. help me with my decision to choose this board. anyone else interested should check amazon today as it is on sale for $799, but strangely, when you check out you get another $160 off the board so it is $639+ tax. amazing deal.
Thanks! $639 is a very good deal. Hopefully, they'll keep that price for a while.
I have a S2 and thinks its a fine product.
I agree.
That price is insane for this board
It is a bit expensive. I think it's better built than most cheaper boards though. I guess it depends how much someone wants to pay for that difference, and if they like the design.

Philip Rosenthale Thanks! Haha, you're right. I need to be careful with all the gear. I can't help trying to get good footage for the video!
I don't see why an app is necessary.
Acton folks are crooks in my experience.
I bought one for a 1000 bucks, and i want to say DO NOT BUY IT, it's terrible quality, the customer service is terrible too. After only 5 months it was already destroyed, there was no lights, one motor left and all the screws were almost destroyed. How have you been riding it and in what way is it destroyed?
