Disney took one of the biggest risks making a movie about religion, and with religious figures, which was The Hunchback Of Notre Dame. Esmeralda deserved the #1 pick on this list. But also The Nightmare Before Christmas is an absolute masterpiece of a film putting the fright of Halloween, and the joy of Christmas together.⛪🕯💀🎃🎄

My favorite is “God help the outcasts.” in the Hunchback of Notre Dame. I always found it so moving how Esmerelda was praying for others even though she had it really rough.. while others in the church prayed for love, wealth, fame, etc… she prayed for the Lord to bless others “less lucky then herself.” Simply a beautiful song, meaning, and character.

I always thought that we needed to take care of them. The bible says that we need to love everyone. I actually sang the song in the church that I go to now because they believe as I do. I also sang Candle on the Water. But, I put a religious spin on it. I talked about Jesus being our light in tough times. That He is our candle leading us through the storms of life. One of the things I love about Sally in "Nightmare" is that even though she loves Jack more than anyone, she's the only one who understands that what he wants to do is wrong and the only one who takes steps to stop him. True, Jack has to rescue her at the climax, but that's only because she was brave enough to take action in the first place and attempt to rescue Sandy Claws. "She's the only one who makes sense in this insane asylum," indeed.

What made that song all the more heartbreaking yet beautiful is that LMM sent a demo to Oskar Eustis after his son committed suicide, it helped Eustis and his family to cope with their loss because it perfectly captured the words and feelings they could not express. Every time I hear that song I think of the people who have been able to work through their grief and those that are still struggling to make sense of their loss. Every one of LMM's works has that one song that will never fail to make me cry: Hamilton- It's Quiet Uptown, In the Heights- Alabanza, Moana- Know Who You Are, Vivo- Inside Your Heart, and Encanto- Dos Oruguitas.

"Nobody Else But You" -The Goofy Movie
This song appears after disaster brought about by betrayal and lack of communication endangers the lives of our father-son protagonists. It reminds us of the special bond shared between parents and their kids with humor and heart-warming sentimentality. My daughter was only four when this movie hit video and immediately fell in love with it. Her favorite thing to do was for the two of us to sing the song together each of us taking the parts of the characters. Rugrat, you'll always be my little Maxi, love, your Goofy Dad.

Dos Oruguitas & I See the Light are a beautiful marriage of touching music and beautiful cinematic magic. I never cared for the 2010's 3D craze in theatres (so many films that got the treatment didn't need it or it was barely noticeable), but it actually did elevate my first experience with I See the Light. I missed the option when I was finally able to see Encanto in theatres.
You'll Be in My Heart rings with a particular sincerity because it was expanded from an actual lullaby Phil Collins made up to sing to his daughter, Lily, when she was young. I tear up every time. Remember Me is the only track that rivals this one for my tears haha. (We don't talk about Goodbye May seem Forever...that's a whole different beast of sadness...)
Had it not been relegated to the credits, "Someday" from The Hunchback of Notre Dame would be way up here on this list. I do love God Help the Outcasts tho, and I understand why adding in Someday would've undercut both tracks' impact. Still....at least Disney put it in the live musical adaption & it's the climactic track of the Harmonious show at EPCOT, now. But I still listen to Celtic Woman's cover of it and wish Disney would do a bit more with the track, even still. It's hauntingly beautiful, defined!
