8:44:55 Skinwalkers may be a Native American legend but what's even more fascinating is that ritualistic shapeshifting is a global thing not just a North American thing. While the terminology changes and the lore of each culture may have it's own unique aspects "Paganism and/or Shamanism" was universal including the belief that performing certain rituals granted the ability to shapeshift by donning the skin of an animal. It's just largely forgotten in Europe after the spread of Christianity demonized most pagan beliefs and practices. Shapeshifting somewhat survived despite being originally being denied by the church but it was ultimately adapted to suit Christian beliefs, the most famous example being werewolves with countless stories and legends most of which were considered the result of witchcraft and devil worship. My favorite is (I'm paraphrasing) the old man that claimed to be a Werewolf and that it was a good thing calling himself and his companions "Hounds of God" and that he and others would transform and travel to the underworld to fight witches and demons to bring life and balance to the Earth and that when he died he would go to heaven, surprisingly he wasn't sentenced to death but the church did exile him. Edit: Another interesting similarity between Skinwalkers and a number of werewolf and Indo-European shapeshifter legends is that being recognized could "lift the curse" so to speak. Differences vary but in some werewolf lore if anyone or in other stories it has to be their spouse looks into the eyes of the werewolf and recognizes who it is it will free them of their curse, or if someone sees the werewolf and knows who it is and speaks their name they will lose their ability to shapeshift or kill them, whereas, if I'm not mistaken, in Navajo lore speaking the skinwalkers human/former name to them can or will kill the skinwalker.

You are the best story teller, l enjoy others as well, but love the inflections in your voice and the voice changes you use for different characters, that's the way a story should be told. Great job! ❤

Things are rea l ly rough for me too the kind of rough that could be told on one of these channels that gives You chills . YOU ARE NOT ALONE. It's difficult to get thru hard times alone, I suggest ypu try and rech out to someone older & wiser , like a mentor or respected family member & get some advice or guidance. As a retired mental health counselor, it's not good to suffer alone. It just can lead to a downward spiral of deeper depression . I really hope the sunlight shines on you again ,in your time of darkness.
