Jay I cant find this answer online, is Roman Orthodox Christianity different from Eastern and if so how? its the only nearby (ish) option for me and I really need a church
Yes, since Rome is in the east that would be considered an Eastern Orthodox Church and that goes for any of the Churches with a country name before orthodox they are all still orthodox they just use different languages in liturgy ☦️🎉
it could be a eastern roman catholic church, which would make it RC. Go online and look for canonical Orthodox Churches near you, make sure they're canonical also.

Relating to the gnostic texts, it’s my understanding that there’s a gnostic “gospel” that refers to the Christian tradition of iconography even with the theology of Nicea 2. Many times when I speak to prots they want implicit or explicit veneration prior to Nicea 1. If this is true Could we use this as an argument for Nicea 2 though it’s a heretical document it’s an attestation to the claims of Nicea2?
@ I remembered hearing that argument from Fr. Jonathon ivanoff on the transfigured life. I believe it’s either the gospel of Thomas or secret gospel of mark I would need to go back and look before I definitively state something. As soon as I figure it out I’ll update
All Protestants still practice icon veneration themselves. They would not use a Bible or a cross as fuel for a bonfire, but they would use cardboard. Why? Because they agree in principle with icon veneration, they only disagree with the TYPE of veneration. Specifically, they think kissing something or bowing are both worship.
The guy truthunedited claims to not be hebrew roots but he certainly carries the symptoms and systems of one. He's stepped away from what appears to be protestant viewpoint because people failed to answer questions and doubts he has
Jay when a Catechimin already Baptized as a Protestant is received by the Orthodox Church via Baptism rather then Chrismation, are their sins treated as forgiven by their Orthodox Baptism? Is the reason for the Orthodox “re-baptizing” for lack of a better word due to them not being baptized in a true Church even if it uses the Trinitarian formula?
@ I know the decision of whether to baptize “again” is up to the Priest and ultimately the Bishop they are under. But is there a confession before the baptism? I’ve read there is a “life confession” sometimes but the Priest does not absolve you there. Absolution occurs during baptismz
It's up to the convert's Bishop to decide whether or not their heterodox baptism was done in the proper form, and whether or not to exercise oeconomia and receive them by Chrismation only. Heterodox baptisms aren't sacramentally valid. They lack the Grace that exists only within the Church. However, baptisms that were done in the *proper form* may, at the discretion of the Bishop, be made retroactively valid through the receiving of the gift of the Holy Spirit by Chrismation. It's not, and never will be, a "re"-baptism. We believe in ONE baptism for the remission of sins.
@MrAwak3 so, a "life confession" before baptism isn't sacramental, meaning, the priest will not pray the prayer of absolution over you. Baptism washes away the sins of our past, and our old self "dies" in a sense, and we are made anew in Christ. The "life confession" is simply to help the catechumen approach their baptism in the proper, penitent state of mind, and ensure their declaration of faith prior to baptism is sincere. From that point forward, sacramental confessions are for the absolution of our sins.
@ I explained I was aware it isn’t a “re-baptism.” There seems to be no standard though. I personally know people who were baptized Protestant in the Trinitarian formula but only one immersion who were baptized when they became Orthodox. I would prefer baptism as I don’t know what authority a Protestant pastor has to baptize to begin with.
