We know. Most East coast cats dont like anything outside of their region. Its funny how the west took it away atleast for awhile and the south has been a top hip hop mainstay since the 90's. NYC finally fell off.
Yup pimp was tight with the whole dungeon family. He lived in ATL from 96 to 01 right before he went to prison. I wish he woulda never went back to Texas he probably woulda stayed free.
Very well said, Gipp! I agree w/ what you said. My burning question has always been, "What is it about the South that makes folks not want to show respect?" I know the answer, but I'd like for the brothas from the region opposite of the West Coast to give they answers. Music has a way of washing itself out in order to make room for the next wave/batch of artists. 1995 was it for the late '80s/early '90s artists. Unfortunately, that phased out the balance of knowledge rap. Powers that be do not care whatsoever. They figure, "You'll get over it in no time." I believe that the brothas who are from the opposite region of the West Coast could not stand to see the art form that they birthed get passed around, nationwide. It's a macho thing. After the dawn of the aughts, the Southern takeover has been on turbo. Consumers are fickle and move right on to the next one faster than you can say abracadabra.
🎯 exactly! I see you know your shit. I'm actually speaking about this on radio next week. How we went from hip hop to mumble rap & the "powers that be" that ushered in this change
Lol, you can just say NY, ain't no "East Coast" just NY, 5 boros, that's it... How big is The South and The West Coast (how many states)?? I'm from the Bronx, and to be honest, we loved Outkast and Goodie Mobb's music for the simple fact they were lyrical and their music had a message to it and that's what most NY hip hop was about - being lyrical, say something that has a message attached to it... Yeah there were some folks who didn't like it but vice versa, you watch these interviews, The South didn't like our shit neither, so it went both ways but I bought Goodie Mobbs albums and Outkasts albums, I was in The A around Freaknik, lol... My thing is, NY rappers from Gipp's era, the 90s, they don't disrespect The South in interviews.. The fans are entitled to what they like, no matter where they're from and for the rappers, they're supposed to be competitive, that's Hip Hop...
@@malcomshabazz2809 aww, thanks! I noticed the shift when I didn't see Public Enemy and them like how I saw them before 1994. I quickly learned that music washes itself out because they _cain't_ have the same 15 artists in the mainstream for 10+ years. Fans get older and move on. Also, they label will curiously go through "changes" on the artists' third LP. Once the artist gets older and realizes that they've been taken advantage of, contractually, they'll phase them out and introduce a new wave of artists. That's why they give them 3 - 5 years of mainstream success.
