Most ark maps are made to be ecosystems, with populations of extinct creatures coexisting and surviving. Aberration is just everything fighting everything with radiation sprinkled in the mix. I LOVE IT!
This dlc came out when I first started playing ARK and it was the first one I got, it’s now my favorite dlc and game. BTW this song is like maaad nostalgia for me!!
Same here, got ark on my birthday and had enough extra cash to get a dlc so got aberration. Started the game on aberration although it’s the hardest dlc, I still loved it, made my friends get it as their first dlc as well

Aberration might be the reason Ark strived away from a grounded survival game. And I think it was the right decision. Ark still stands out among other Survival games. And made for one of the most intriguing stories I've ever seen in a video game. If you care enough to gather the explorer notes that is. Can't wait to experience this map. The expectations are high. Since everyone says it's the best Story map.
eh i feel extinction tipped that balance more so as abb was a amazing survival dlc instead of powerrangers pokeball sim it was arguably harder the at the time than the hardest dlc scorched earth and also didnt bring meta defining creatures that would break the entirety of the game while yes it was slightly more sci fi it was still very grounded in its design making most items involved with the map actually mean something like scorched earth giving this dlc an amazing new feeling

The biggest thing about Aberration that made it good, to me, was the lack of flight and the way it incorporated you not being able to fly. Despite being the smallest, Aberration *feels* much bigger than the other maps because you're so limited in how you can move. That makes it so you experience so much more of the map on the ground level, and makes the map *so* very much more dangerous.
@@Masterofhammersthat's actually intentional, in one of helena's notes on aberration she mentions that every new creature that she sees has been seen in pop culture or referenced in old ghost stories because the arks and the genesis sim were made by of course, people who created those pieces of media and stories, which just makes aberration cooler

They show from the Island to Aberration(unfortunately, the people involved didn't have enough time to do Extinction before they took down the non-dedicated servers for Ark:SE) Trust me, you'll love it! And they only got better quality as time went by.

Even though the Drake is basically a flier in a way, it’s so much cooler getting around than “just hold the forward button until I get there or need Stam”. My Drake is my favorite method of travel even on the other ARKs. Not to mention that nailed the overall feel of the map. It fits the definition of “Aberration” to a T. It’s just so foreign and mysterious even you get there and start exploring and start trying to figure out why this place is so rundown and poisonous. The soundtrack lets you know off the bat that you shouldn’t be here. I’ll use the Surface Battle theme as an example of this sense of uneasiness. Since each of the biomes (Green-Blue-Red-Surface)is vastly different and more dangerous than the last it gives you a a sense of uneasiness yet a want to keep going deeper and testing the limits of your ability to survive.The departure into sci-fi was a way of making it its own thing. It’s still a dinosaur game, but there’s so much more underneath. The Surface gives you a good rush of adrenaline and good loot, but the Reapers and Sunlight burns you and everything on you to cinders keep you on your toes and getting greedy. It also shows Rockwell’s descent into madness for the sake of knowledge. It was cool seeing a character we’ve known about so long even a physical form in game. The light mechanic made it more eerie and cool as well. Humans are naturally afraid if the dark and the Nameless and Reapers enhance that fact. Extinction was cool lore-wise, but then wasn’t as strong as Ab was. The lack of a new shoulder pet and mechanic tied to it still bugs me here and there. But yeah, I freaking LOVE Aberration and I miss it was more popular, but people like their pacifiers also called flier too much. Let’s hope that Genesis can beat or at least rival Aberration for me. Sorry for the long message and the ramble fest lol.
Agreed about the flyers. I’ve been playing single player on ragnarok and I’ve made it a challenge to not use flyers at all. the gameplay makes you stand on your toes more because you simply can’t just go over the danger. You either have to fight it or flee from it. And I love aberration. Where as the island and scorched give you sense of danger. Aberration adds the feeling of just being unwelcome to the map. I still just explore aberration even though I have 200+ hours on my single player game and have 2.5 bases. It’s just a cool map to be on.
Aberration was when the game really took a step into the right direction, it was when we realized the game actually had a story, they added the overseer just before they launched the dlc, teasing the map by showing the broken ark in the overseer sanctuary, favourite dlc by quite a bit, second is gen2

The 3rd of the Arks is a damaged ark, the surface atmosphere has been dissolved, and is unique as it is mainly underground, with cool places like an underground forest with giant mushrooms, and glowing creatures, as well as giant crabs, and big basilisks, there is a bioluminescent area with beautiful giant trees and cliffs, with more crabs, and chupacabra creatures that can summon Xenomorph creatures, and a mysterious area with liquid element rivers, full of rock drakes, mutants, and the mighty Xenomorph Queen, also a familiar evil that was once a friend of Helena awaits you there Aberration

This is a deep and fantastical map filled with unique creatures and epic music, it feels like you have entered a new world physically and can experience the true beauty of ark like gliding through the ark with a drake or admiring the element falls, the music is fitting almost cosmological and is kind of giving a feeling that you are looking over an edge of a cliff where unknown secrets lie at the bottom, that’s why aberration is the best map change my mind
My opinion for the story arks The island: Nice, classic map, easy to tame things and good boss fights Scorched Earth: Very hard😏 (I mean difficult), to sustain, but nice to get Wyverns Aberration: Best ark map, amazing underground areas, with cliff platforms, and reapers Extinction: Very cool map, it’s all corrupted and damaged, easy to get Tek, and has the titans Genesis: Decent map, has missions, brute dinos, cool places, can’t wait for Genesis part 2
I feel like Aberration is harder than Scorched because the map it 70% filled with radiation, nameless, rockdrakes, and reapers. That's on top of the deadly spawn points with spinos, crabs, and snakes. Even Rockwell in my opinion is the hardest boss especially where he literally takes over Genesis. But through all of it, it's the nicest map in my opinion and has the best storyline.

Webby1355 9 you are very right! When I first started it was a little boring but then I started to talk to people on my server and it turned into a close community. Everyone is so friendly! And you can build out of any material you want.

This is a deep and fantastical map filled with unique creatures and epic music, it feels like you have entered a new world physically and can experience the true beauty of ark like gliding through the ark with a drake or admiring the element falls, the music is fitting almost cosmological and is kind of giving a feeling that you are looking over an edge of a cliff where unknown secrets lie at the bottom, that’s why aberration is the best map change my mind

My opinion for the story arks
The island: Nice, classic map, easy to tame things and good boss fights
Scorched Earth: Very hard😏 (I mean difficult), to sustain, but nice to get Wyverns
Aberration: Best ark map, amazing underground areas, with cliff platforms, and reapers
Extinction: Very cool map, it’s all corrupted and damaged, easy to get Tek, and has the titans
Genesis: Decent map, has missions, brute dinos, cool places, can’t wait for Genesis part 2

I feel like Aberration is harder than Scorched because the map it 70% filled with radiation, nameless, rockdrakes, and reapers. That's on top of the deadly spawn points with spinos, crabs, and snakes. Even Rockwell in my opinion is the hardest boss especially where he literally takes over Genesis. But through all of it, it's the nicest map in my opinion and has the best storyline.

Best opening theme to ark ever made. Unless Extinction can pull off a better theme, this is by far my favorite map out of all of the ark, even beating Ragnorok for me. Who else can't wait for Ark Extinction. Cause I can't

My friend bought the base game for me and I was hooked. This was the first DLC I got and by god do I love it. So beautiful, so sad, so hopeful.
Go back and play scorched earth...or at least get a quick oblisk kill, with Extiction gear, you'll do fine...mostly
