    holy hell, both of these cars are insane!! nobody really seems to understand how quick a 12 second quarter mile is these days, what with all the sub 10 second cars they're running, but I really think it's amazing that they're able to run that fast considering their age. props to the owners for having them running so well, I love seeing these races!

      And that's on narrow tires to boot! Put a set of drag radials on those cars. And they might dip into the high 11s! And that's naturally aspirated. Cars today that run better times are all forced induction.

      @@chadhaire1711 , this class is "fast " factory appearing stock tire. They run the biggest factory option cam. Do a substantial amount of cylinder head work , distributor curving, carb work and chassis tuning. They even hog out the cast iron exhaust manifolds. And for better traction wear down the tread on the bias tire. But, it goes to show how doing that extra work on factory components can really increase the engine output and how the car can launch on a polyglas bias tire.

      The 1969 Dart's 340 made 320-330 HP according to the NHRA. But my favorite Mopar 340 has to be the 6-BBL/Six Pack from the AARs and T/As. Those made 350-360 HP as well I believe.

    Both of those cars are no slouch when it comes to speed! And the Red A12 Superbee brings back a lot of good memories for me, because my dad use to drive a '69 Dodge Coronet 500 (originally a 318, swapped for a 383) it wasn't the "fastest" but it was cirtainly quick! Goodday C & Z,
    What an absolute treat for Sunday morning whilst having my breakfast & washing it down with good old Greek coffee.
    That has to be the best racing so far this year.
    Went down to the wire, all 3 races were super close from 2 of the best muscle cars back in the day.
    Thank you for highlighting how back in 1965 the L78 in the Impala & Corvette were rated at 425 hp.
    I have at least 120 muscle car books & not one of them goes into detail the difference between the 425 hp L78 & the 1966 375 hp L78.
    If you can shine some light on it, or anyone it would be greatly appreciated.
    A quick reference to Ronnie Sox & what quarter mile he ran in a bone stock Plymouth Roadrunner 6BBL manual back in the day.
    It was a feature in a magazine & I believe he managed to get high 12's in it.
    Hope you are well.

      @@chadhaire1711 a lot of these muscle cars from that era suffered from t ET robbing facts . One was the stock exhaust didn’t flow enough air to satisfy a lawn tractor and two they suffered from a major lack of traction in first and second gear. All the babies out there that whine and moan about these cars being "modified". So what. Most of these modifications can be done on your driveway or in your garage and that's part of what made them so special in the first place. You have to be a wizard today with an arsenal of tech equipment to even attempt to work on the newer cars. The factory knew that it couldn't pump out more HP for many reasons so they let the public do what they wanted with off the shelf factory upgrades available at those dealers. Keep in mind these are naturally aspirated engines and in my opinion, are the best. So keep your turbo while you're at it. Long live the muscle car, the 1st generation of muscle car.

The 440 Six Pack was rated at 390, and made about 400 gross horsepower. The A12 Mopar had the advantage in torque. The Camaro had the horsepower, and weight advantage. The power to weight ratio on both is almost identical. Rear end gearing is the same. It came down to reaction time. The Camaro might have a slight aerodynamic advantage. If the Mopar could shed some weight it would have won.

    Camaro has the weight advantage but it just comes down to the driver's reaction time who ever gets the light first wins

    The driver of the super Bee weighs 12 lb?

  • @tskraj3190
    @tskraj3190 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very close races! In the quarter mile I feel the 396 powered Camaro is slightly faster because of it's take off but the 440 powered Super Bee definetly catches up and if it was longer than a quarter mile I believe the 440 Super Bee would spank the Camaro.

    • @timsharpe3498
      @timsharpe3498 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Camaro had your MOPAR covered by about 3 mph on every run. The Bee wasn’t catching up.

    • @robertjohnson4401
      @robertjohnson4401 ปีที่แล้ว

      I disagree. Both had about 4.1 gears. So beyond a quarter mile it would be a matter of which engine could rev higher. The Chevy 396 has a shorter stroke and has the advantage in top end revs.

    You all know,it seems like ive seen alot of l78 Camaro's with the fender stripes rather than the RS Z28 rally stripes on a 396 SS!! I know you can get them both types of stripes,or even no stripes numbers matching but most 396's in count do seem to have the side stripes on them!! But,i do love these RS Z28 top rally stripes alot more on the 60's Camaro's!! I like the L48 350 Camaro SS,but people,that's just me!! 396 is too strong in a Camaro,i think the Camaro will probably win becayse of the 4:10 gear!!...🇺🇲🇺🇲

    I have always loved Chrysler cars from the muscle car era, but the company failed to develop a well thought out, lightweight, "A" body car with a big-block engine. They shoehorned big blocks into Darts and Barracudas, but those cars were pigs to drive, and they were not exceptionally quick in stock form. The "end of the era," Cudas and Challengers were almost as heavy as Chrysler's mid-sized cars had been. It was a market that Chrysler missed. They probably didn't have the money to develop the platforms they needed to be competitive in the compact/big block class.

    Both cars tweaked to perfection, looks like advantage Camaro in the power to weight category so the reaction time was critical for the mopar. Hard to consistently put out .03 reaction times.
    That 300 pounds difference was too much. Maybe if the driver was racehorse jockey size•••
    Didnt know that about the L78 being in the Corvette earlier and rated 425hp! Says a lot. I'm amazed that they can get that power to the ground with those skinny tires.
