Great job on your video! Thank you. I have been flying airplanes since 1982 and I have been building everything out of wood. Now that I'm starting to get into foam airplanes, your video has been very helpful to know how to get the popcorn out.
Very informative. Ive learned most of this on a self taught crash course on my own - but youve provided some incredibly valuable "tricks". Thank You !!
Nice jobs on those ....whst cessna 150 is that awesome awesome , only thing I can say remotely negative is ...you missed a belt loop, which I do often in back....please share more of these videos, I learned alot , if only the skills or patience to do it
Currently spraying minwax on my Kingfisher 1400 and stumbled on this vid. Great info! This will help my next project for sure! For anyone wondering, the spray is going on really well so far. Spraying over the top of my paint. But I definitely didn't put this much thought into it. 💪🏿
Very well done, I really like your style. I admire your craftsmanship in the painting you’re doing. I would also really appreciate if you could show how you start with the foam in it’s original covering when you get it and then your original treatment of the foam, including what grades and types of sandpaper you’re using. Thanks a lot, keep up the good work. Inspiring fleet of airplanes.!
nice stuff, for the clear top coat like on the blue angels prop plane what clear coat do you use ? still the polycrylic cans ? or do you recommend some other kind of clear top coat spray? thanks
I loved your down to earth demeaner. I have the yellow avanti-s. Wow, what could be done! And the Horizon 2.1m Cessna. I'm tried to paint the bare foam white on the Cessna. Masking on red and the red paint lifts. So how would you prep that for a complete re-paint ? Remove the paint with acetone ? Sand it ? Anyway, inspiring work. Cheers.
Thank you for your very helpful video's and taking the time to answer so many questions! I'm getting back into planes, so reading up and learning from the experienced, before getting started. Nice job on your planes!
Thank you sir, and good luck. I build them like they are real planes so only do it ONCE. Then fly them like you stole them , they last longer that way.
Great informative video. Next time you paint it would be great to actually watch you in action, your planes are beautiful - almost all of mine are balsa now, but you're making me think of switching back. I did a basic minwax spray on a couple older foamies and even just doing that made them much stronger and resistant to hangar rash, which was the whole reason I went to balsa in the first place - I don't crash often, but my foam planes started looking beat up just from the trips to and from the field... with your technique I think my foamies would be cheaper alternatives that fly just as nice and stay looking great for years! Thanks
Great Info.. On your trainer, I love the color scheme. Could you tell me what brand and blue color you used on the trainer plane. I would like to do it on a trainer I have. Thank you Jack
Very inspiring and Beautiful work!! I really like the comment on using patience. Yea, your going to watch paint dry. Build another airplane. Thank you very much, great job!
Hello, what actually is the foam filler? Is it something purchased at a hobby shop or home supply. Im a 7 year drone and race drone pilot but im almost finished building my first RC airplane-P51D Mustang. Im already hooked and i haven’t flown yet. Thank you very much for all of the tips and tricks!
You can purchase BEACON FOAM FILLER or you can use LIGHT WEIGHT SPACKLE from lowes or Home Depot or any online store to fill bad spots on a foam airplane.
The number of coats is up to your liking for the look you want to achieve. I only use Rustoleum 2X clear on my planes and the number of coats is up to you and your liking and weight savings because you are going to add weight with paint. So go lite on the paint.
YO,JETTMAN, I'm putting the minwax on my plane and it seems to not wanna adhere .do you send your planes before the minwax or just after.sorry for all the questions but your planes look really good, thanks bud
What did you use for the metal on the cowl of the T28 ? it looks good. I use the Liquid Chrome markers for detail on my models like the wheel rims etc works good and I always use Polycrylic on my foam models it makes them a lot tougher I find
Can i minwax the plane then sand it and paint it? what i did i spray the primer and then i put minwax then i will sand minwax and spray the color, any feedback> thanks
I'm glad you addressed folks weight questions. I fly with cameras 🤣. Paint weight is the least of my problems. But they all seem to fly just fine with some paint
Good morning, I want to paint the wings made of foam, what steps you suggest and whether it is possible to paint with 2x ? and the body plastic ! can do with Tamiya ?
First off I love your Birds Sir.... The Cessna and A-10 are Fabulous. I tried the Minwax and it works great. How ever it did lift on me when I peeled up the masking tape. I used frog tape as you suggested as well what did I do wrong? So to get the brush marks out I can wet sand it too? How thick should I apply the Min Wax? If I go to thick you get the white air bubbles? Seems to helps strengthen the foam descent and I like the glossy finish. Compaired to the Floor cleaner which is better and protects the foam better? I did the MinWax in my Eflite Commander Straight outta the box. I just wanna know why it lifted with the tape and how to do it right.
Sorry to hear your problems. First of all I'd probably didn't make this clear and I have to make it much more clear you boss practice practice practice you are not going to get the Finish like I did just trying to do this the first time this is not easy it takes practice a lot of it and learn what works and doesn't doesn't work. Some things you can try and keep in mind number one was the plane cleaned with alcohol first to remove any release agent from the factory second thing to do sometimes I use sandpaper which is like eight hundred or higher maybe a thousand just to rough up the surface to give the Minwax something to stick to on my plane you can use three coats of Minwax used to dry between each coat which may take a day and you want to send the Minwax slightly before you start to put the primer on 3rd when I go to take my tape off as in the video I stated I use a heat gun to warm my tape up before I start pulling on it so that it does not live to tape on my A10 it has six coats of Minwax on it that's why it has such a thick surface to put my paint and peel the tape off on once again in closing you must practice practice practice this took years for me to learn and that's why I'm good at it hopefully you can recover from this if not acetone it off and start all over again and do it right
Mr Jackson, I have aFSM CORSAIR that has blisters all over it. If I was to sand and go through this process would that stop the blistering? Thank you for your thoughts on this! 🇺🇸👍🙋♂️🖖🏻
Another tip to prevent paint bleed under your tape ruining your crisp lines is to put a coat of clear down (or a layer of polyurethane if you're using it) and let it dry prior to putting color down. Then any bleeds will be clear bleeds and will seal the edge.
Great video without all the loud obnoxious music and noise. Nice being able to hear you loud and clear. With the minwax, have you seen any cracks from the foam flexing? Kinda lkeep lacquer cracks on an old school automotive paint.
Anything over 400, work your way up 800, 1000. it's up to you on what results you want to get . It just takes more time if you want a super smooth finish. On some of my planes I just paint and clear coat and call it a day and just fly them .
No over barring music, tried and true useful information, informative and professional! Thanks JetMan
So nice to see a video without the distracting crappy music.

No bullsh*t no loud music, just usefull information, 110% informative, THUMBS UP DUDE. The foam filler and 2x seems tempting.
Very nice video William. Thanks for sharing

New to the foam game. Thanks so much for this video. Beautiful airplanes and paint work.

How do you get popcorn out on a foam wing
You have to cover it up with a lite weight spackling from LOWES , SAND , MINWAX, PRIMER , PAINT, CLEAR

Is that foam filler something I can get at a local hobby shop? You have inspired me to repair on a wrecked a10
