    Thank you to everybody who has supported the creation of these video and has shared this journey with my sailboat Karl and me so far. It would not have been the same without you.
    -
    Hey, my name is Nike and I bought an aluminum 37 foot sailboat in Panama in 2013 that I named KARL. I spent a good year refitting it, mostly by myself and with the help of awesome friends, and then (mostly) solo sailed my sailboat around the western Caribbean.
    In 2016, I crossed the Panama Canal, had a major engine break down, a near sinking experience and a serious foot injury which got me stuck along the Pacific coast of Central and South America.
    In this Episode, my friends Joel and Sheddy from SV Chuffed do voluntary veterinary work from their boat. Mostly they spay stray dogs and cats but this time they rescued a turtle that was tangled up in some fishing line and needed surgery.
    Wanna see how a veterinary clinic on a sailboat works? Then check out this week's episode!
    Of course there are some pretty beaches to see as well...
    Ahoy and enjoy,
    Nike & Karl

    Thanks for watching!
    Enjoy & Ahoy,
    Nike & Karl

    So Awesome to watch Sheddy do surgery on the turtle! As a nurse, I find it pretty cool that they would do that. Most people would just put them in the pot for dinner. Bravo.
    Just watched the movie Nike, and was blown away by it My wife watched as well, and while she doesn't always share my dream of cruising, she too was impressed with your staying ability. I found myself feeling very proud of you, (even though we don't know each other at all, I feel we are kindred spirits of a sorts...) Hope to one day she Karl out there!

    Ghost nets drifting around the ocean are a scourge to wildlife (and boat propellers). A few years ago a major carpet manufacturer was offering a fee to African fishermen to turn in used/found nets for recycling into carpet, but I don’t know if they continued the initiative. Great video. You have wonderful friends. Thanks

    • @WhiteSpotPirates
      @WhiteSpotPirates  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for moving your comment here :).
      I have also read about some brands using recycled nets for shoes or swimwear. Let's hope it will get some of those floaters out of the water and off the beaches...It's really sad to see little animals getting stuck in them and suffering...

    We sailed up on a 16 in Kemp in the river N of Florabama 5 yrs ago on Memorial ray weekend. A propeller almost fully severed a front flipper. Local turtle rescue came in about an hour but nothing they could do. Pensacola and Alabama have turtle hotline. Thought Kemp's were only in S. TX and N Mexico. Sailing my 16 ft tri the next weekend and depressed I heard a small blow sound of the port 1\4. I looked into the very big eye of what appeared to be a 3 ft turtle not 4 ft from the ama. Pretty surreal BC these are the only 2 sea turtles I've seen and it was on back to back weekends. Thanks for sharing.

    Got a reply that said "sorry....." when I clicked on it whoose! It was gone.... "unavailable" it said. So don't know what you wrote. I guess it's likely about the early comments being lost?
    I originally wrote:
    I guess you're going to have to do a follow up on the turtles rehab as everyone is curious about him.
    AND I said you are really looking great. When you go home you will be able to make some extra money doing some modeling.

    Who brings canned seafood on a boat?

    • @WhiteSpotPirates
      @WhiteSpotPirates  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      out_sailing please enlighten me why you would not bring canned mussels on a sailboat?

    • @WhiteSpotPirates
      @WhiteSpotPirates  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      out_sailing well, there is definitely fish and seafood in the ocean...but maybe you also heard me say how murky the water is in that area and that you could not see further than a foot in the water...kinda difficult to hunt then...I do actually fish and spearfish quite a bit, but also it takes a fair amount of time and the right conditions to catch your own seafood / fish and sometimes you just want to go and explore instead of spending half the day chasing your food around. I am sure you go to the supermarket every once in a while to get some food, no? Same on the boat...sometimes you just like it the easy way and open up a can...and since there are no shops in lots of the areas that I go to, I stock up on a couple of cans when I have the chance...there are sardines among them, too ;)...but I like the mussels for little snacks during hikes or just before dinner when you have guests...
      I have once found a scallop kind of mussel close to Contadora. Took me half an hour to get into it, but it was delicious! Surely fresh seafood is awesome...but sometimes some quick and easy canned goodness is not too bad, either 😜
      Ahoy, Nike

      Makes perfect sense. The turtles are protected, so you can’t eat them. Mussels are not protected. You seem to have some weird things floating around your world, she acts just like every male sailor I know.
