Hi LOC LOVERS! Were you shocked that the girlies didn't actually relax their hair? We all know that our beauty standards are distorted but what are your thoughts on how products are being marketed to us?

The false advertising is a shame. I also learned about the increase of breast and ovarian cancer due to chemical straightening treatments and I shook my head with the deepest frustration. Black women go through practically death to obtain beauty standards that are not natural to us. Dying in the name of beauty and it's sad. What's even more sad is we did not inflict these beauty standards upon ourselves but the society we were forced to live in did. Its really frustrating. But our voices are rising and we will be heard on this matter as well.

Madness, right? I agree with you. I do think our voices are rising. The more we learn to take care of ourselves we can spread the knowledge. A lot of us got our hair relaxed because it made the maintenance easier. Now I see women investing in wigs which can be a protective style but sacrificing their hairline with all that glue. Smh The hair trends are crazy lol

Yes, this is so sad 😢. One of the reasons I refused to put my daughter through the same pain. And I’m proud to say she loves her hair so much, even before she got locs 🥰! Glad to say I’m part of the generation that’s teaching our kids to love and treat their hair better🙏🏿! Thank you for spreading the knowledge ❤️!

I love that! It’s amazing that your daughter can look to you as a representation of beauty. 🤎

I’m so shook! This is wilddddd. Advertising and media really be out here selling unattainable dreams, perpetrating self-hate. I know one too many little black girls who were upset by their relaxer results not mimicking those boxes. I was one of them.

Exactly! Their pockets getting fatter while black women going bald. Smh

@@nattyann What’s worse is that black women often feel obligated to use these products to be successful (especially in predominantly white spaces like corporate America, higher education, etc). Times are slowly changing but the effects still linger (literally and figuratively).

Right! I’ve heard a lot of women say they want to wait to loc up because of their job, or having to straighten the hair for interviews. Or men fading their hair super low for corporate. Imagine your employer having that much power over you. Meanwhile Suzie rolled in with bedhead in the next cubicle over 😭😭

Thanks for sharing! If I weren't already loc'd, this video sure would've convinced me. Best hair decision I everrrr made. New subbie here.

They do have the commercials out now about relaxers causing uterine cancer. It’s sad we had to wait this long for it 😢

OMG! Unbelievable! My hair NEVER got straight either! And I did realize in my late 20s that no type of relaxer worked to straighten my hair like the girls and women on the boxes. I still used the relaxer to at least make my hair manageable. BUT only until the 1/8 inch or more of new growth came! Then i couldn't comb and the breakage occurred. Every. Single. Time. I ended that madness in 2004. Did a big chop and went with braids, twists, and wigs until I locked in October 2021. Awful! 😔😭😔

Omg! We were thinking black hair can’t grow long meanwhile the products mashing up our hair. My hair got so thin you wouldn’t believe! So glad you went natural! 🤘🏾

Also oddly enough, some perm boxes like these were made by white people, I was so shook. Yea, it’s harmful but we see still paying for it so it will Alaska’s be in supply since there is a demand for. While I’m locd, mom is still addicted to the creamy crack.

Yes a lot of black hair products are white owned. A lot of ppl still use use relaxers but I wonder why… you can get get a your hair bone straight without it. But I guess once you sweat you know what happens 🤣
