This was super helpful. I've gotten back into the game recently and Sin has very quickly become my secondary character just behind Sol. The main thing I need to learn to do is working the dash cancels into my combos. Here's hoping I can get good enough where I can not go 0-2 at Evo this year.
I'm sure it has a lot of weaknesses, but round start 2D seems pretty good from my experience so far. at 10 frames it tends to trade with a lot of f.S or 2S round start, scoring a hard knockdown in the process
Appreciate all the tech, editing was dope this go around as well. One minor correction, but the auto-time safe jump after throw can be punished midair by 2P.
Bro I am just getting into this game and holy crap you make some of thee combos look easy to pull off lol. The combo at 2:17 that follows the dash with the 2k is such a tight window.
I just got back into the game after taking a break shortly after HC came out cause they finally released a dlc i was interested in, and long story short I have been getting WAXED cause I had no idea how to approach Sin, so this vid was a big help
i was SUPER hyped for this game i pre ordered it on both ps4 and pc even buying one of the special editions on ps4 which got me season pass 1 but unfortunately right around when it came out i had fallen out of playing fighting games and all my friends that played them did as well so i barely played it but with tekken 8 coming out ive been watching ton of videos on the trailers n stuff and its making me want to play something before it comes out so i can de rust and i figured i'd see what new characters have come out for gg strive and as soon as i saw sin i knew who i was about to buy and get back into the game with and this video is the first thing im watching once i get him
I've seen good Sin players do spaced beak driver 1>command dash>throw which seems pretty good to me? Btw best GG guides on YT *edit* Just realized this was basically covered in the video
I love all of your content. Genuinely becoming my go to for FGC content. Question, in so many of the combos shown you are doing the dash followup after specials into 2.K or c.S and I simply cannot get those to link, am I missing something?
@@Diaphone Honored to get a reply directly from you! I suppose I may be mashing too much or something. I'll hit the lab, but I always seem to be a frame too late. Thanks again.
Incredible video! I’ve taken a liking to your guides on strive, especially the one on baiken. But could you give the name for the background music you use? I saw it said music by Harris heller in the description but I couldn’t find the specific song. Thanks 🙏
I'm calling it right now. In a couple of months, we'll all agree that Sin is a top tier and we'll be laughing at ourselves for downplaying him at his launch. This character is absolutely absurd imo.
The problem with 13:26 is that there's literally 0 reason for the opponent to press a button after they block the overhead if you have flag meter. So this doesn't work, the play group I play with just won't press a button and then Sin becomes completely useless. These are the scenarios: they either don't press a button and I delay or don't delay the follow up and then we're back to neutral after the follow. They don't press a button but I don't do a follow up at all, back to neutral because they've let me get away with the frame disadvantage but it doesn't matter really because it's a better option that taken 50% from a counter hit. Lastly I do the special then I dash cancel for a grab.. well they have time to react to the grab and tech it or punish the dash. These are the only 3 options and it makes Sin a very, very linear character in my opinion. There's nothing to open an opponent up if they have somewhat decent reaction times. I'm pretty confused when watching content creators on TH-cam and people they are playing against aren't teching the dash throws and nobody is throwing Sin off of his blocked aerials. Maybe my friends are just better than top calibre players.. who knows.
@@Diaphone I'll try and lab the timing for that, I can see backdash working after the dash cancel but would they not be able to grab the startup frames of the jump?
You're not representing more potential threats or extended pressure. If you do the overhead without a follow-up because they're just looking for something to react to and punish, you're not in neutral even though you're at a frame disadvantage; you've just successfully built meter, opponent RISC, and then because they're choosing to do nothing you get to continue extending your pressure. That's when they're going to be forced to challenge with either a button or escape option, and you can frame trap with the follow-up or a normal. Just because overhead is negative, if the other person is always looking for something else to punish, you can go into a safer button to extend pressure, such as either K or even a c.S if they're really waiting. Hope this helps at least a little. It really matters to take risks in advantage if you think the other person is turtling up and just blocking/reacting, otherwise you'll be stuck ending a string and giving respect to an opponent who's still just blocking. Maybe this isn't the answer you want or will even consider, but it's my personal opinion on how 'linear' characters open people up.
@@JackKahunaLagunaFGC I understand what you're getting at. Especially about building their risc and even doing some slight chip damage if they never respond then i'm still kind of pushing a small advantage if they block forever. Maybe my frustration stems from the limited use of Sin's meter. Rounds end pretty quickly in Strive and after youy've attempted a frame trap twice or a dash up throw all of your stamina is gone and part of me wants to hold some back in case I land a hit because without stamina you can't convert into any damage. Maybe this is more the root of my issues feeling like I can try 1 or two mixups with meter but then feeling that I have to back off once it's low or gone because some stuff is unsafe on hit. By the time i've got my meter back i'm usualy in a whirlind of Nago pressure and I lose haha. I guess I need to work on things I can do without meter
@@iamacharliest I think an important consideration is that a lot of characters have to take a risk to go for overheads (tap dust, jump ins, chip rekka overhead etc) which can get punished if blocked. So yes you don't gain a lot for throwing out hoof stomp and having it get blocked, but limiting mashing with the follow up lets sin get away with taking a risk and using resource to make it safe. While sin is certainly linear to an extent, the threat of flag meter or tension making overhead/low mix safe extends the mental stack an opponent has to consider. No single option of sin's seems inherently busted, but he has a lot of control and choice in how he extends pressure and resets pressure using a variety of resources.
I have autism. And I wish and pray diaphone can train me I'm not you f but I have 24 hours. I really need a mentor. Being mentally challenged is not the end. , I will never give up
What I've been using for safejumps is 5P -> IAD -> FD -> to either K, S or even HS Because you get more plus frames to where you can C.s for a true blockstring You can also do this after a OTG with C.s in the corner or midscreen after a 2D altough some reversals (I think 9 frame reversals) can punish Sin because of landing frames The same can be done after you get a wallbreak with a super (loses to the same 9 frame reversals) This is what I took from 3h of labbing in the training mode tho, so I may be misinformed 👨🦯
This guide is almost perfect, its just missing the glue eating section with the list of recommended glues to eat for which matchups.
thats the advanced guide

very well made, better than most tutorial content as usual
Great guide! It's probably easiest to just call his meter "stamina" instead of "flag meter" or "food meter"
Eating glue made me like guilty gear. This was the power up I needed.

yea I started just manually timing the jumpin.. feels easier tbh lol, but i see a lot of sins go for it.
I've been wanting to play this dude since he came out, thank you so much!

All these combos work, there are weight classes so make sure you are doing the combos on the weight class character shown

One odd thing to note is that rtl somehow can be input after beak driver without any dash canceling. It just works I guess
its because there are 2 forward inputs in the motion (so you can get dash that way) dash button more consistent

Omg he reminds me of Robin From injustice 2..this is very good news

there are ways to beat dash throw (if they tech, it means you could have punished it with either backdash or j.d) so maybe focus on that?
