- The hump on Gentaro's head is growing.
When he chews food, the hump moves. This is because the bump is a muscle.
The fight was like Gentaro taking on Genki. It was not the usual kind of messing around, but there must have been some other reason.
Before and after the fight, the two of them were both quite normal.

MOMOTARO & GENKI Family
Father MOMOTARO ♂(2000/7/3)
He is hesitant in new situations and is a loner.
His father died before he was born, and he had never spent time with a silverback.
He had already turned into a silverback by the time he was 10 years old.
He is struggling with unfamiliar child-rearing.
MOMOTARO's father is BIJU.
MOMOTARO's mother is MOMOKO.
Mother GENKI ♀ (1986/6/24)
She is 14 years older than Momotaro and has a role to support the whole family mentally.
She has had a tumultuous and eventful life.
She has returned to her birthplace, Kyoto City Zoo.
She had never been blessed with a baby but after meeting Momotaro,
she had two sons.
She is a very maternal female gorilla.
GENKI's father is MAC.
GENKI's mother is HIROMI.
First son GENTARO, male (2011/12/21)
He was separated from his mother Genki soon after he was born.
Genki's milk production was not very good.
He was raised by his keeper for his first10 months.
Because of this, he is very fond of humans.
His face is so expressive, and everyone enjoys watching him.
Second son KINTARO ♂ (2018/12/19)
He is just very strong-willed and independent.
He has big eyes and long eyebrows.
The way he plays a lot with his brother Gentaro makes everyone smile.
We can't wait to see what kind of gorilla he'll become!

There is no way that gentle Genki started this fight. She is peaceful and busy chewing!
This channel earns a lot of money and is getting rich from naive people watching, sharing and commenting on these videos. But we can clearly see that none of that money is going to improve the living conditions or the health of those animals. They are also promoting the violent actions of these animals in captivity just to get more views. I recommend that everyone unsubscribe from this channel and quit watching their videos! I would also suggest that everyone report these kinds of channels as "violent or repulsive" content to TH-cam. Otherwise, you are just exploiting their less than stellar living conditions and condoning the forced captivity of these beautiful creatures. STOP PROMOTING THE CRUELTY TO ANIMALS AND FORCING THEM INTO CAPTIVITY JUST TO ENTERTAIN HUMAN BEINGS! If you are truly an animal lover, then you wouldn't be helping to fund these horrible zoos! I hate to see any fights in our beloved gorilla family but watching Genki slap Gentaro on the back of his head was pretty funny.

@gregsutton2400 Lacks moral fiber? These are gorillas not people Greg. And as far as Genki "disciplining" Gentaro goes that ship has sailed. He's on the verge of Silverback. He's much bigger and stronger than Genki. It's natural for an emerging Silverback to develop aggressive behavior. That's why he's going to be moved to a new enclosure shortly. All Genki can do at this point is what any female gorilla can do: try to avoid an aggressive male and defend herself if she has to.

Momo has more upper body strength from having to climb for his food, and actually has longer legs than Shabani so he looks more agile but since Shabini is lower to the ground and runs more he's faster and more agile. Both are the best looking Silverbacks that I've ever seen.
Really it's unnfair on all of them, they really need more space, and a better programme to keepthem breading moving forward it's the responsibility of the zoo! It starts and ends with them❤😢

Amo Gentaro lindooo e acho ele um ser especial com olhar que fala muito, tenho pena de Genki com sua fragilidade e doçura, admiro demais Momotaro por sua beleza e seriedade com traços solitários e perdido e kintaro é a fofura da família e acho que vai ser muito brabo quando se tornar adulto.

Momotaro needs to take Gentaro out behind the barn and teach him a lesson. Gent is almost grown and he is too big to be bullying his mother.
I have never seen Momo bully Genki so I don’t know that this is learned behavior. I’m glad Genki got her licks in! You can see that Kintaro is concerned about his mom.

Many years ago I was at a zoo who had gorillas. One was sitting on the ground behind safety-glass and relaxing. I gazed deeply into his eyes and he gazed deeply into my eyes. There was 'someone' in his eyes!! It was a wonderful experience. If only they weren't dangerous............
You shouldn't gaze straight into their eyes, to a gorilla it's a sign of a threat and quite disrespectful. At the end of the day you visit their environment it's manners to respect them. Gorillas only attack if they feel threatened they are not aggressive primates. If humans follow gorilla etiquette, they wouldn't attack.

I've always been found of Gentaro. He was my boy, but this is getting way out of control. He is behaving the way blackbacks should, so I can't say anything bad about him. But poor Genki, she doesn't deserve this. Yes, she doesn't take any of his crap, she comes right back at him, but come on, Gentaro needs to be with, say another blackback, and maybe a 17, and 20-year-old silverback. The US has so many bachelor groups, it amazing. And they have fun. What's it gonna take? Great video though.
Would be curious to know the cost of transfer from Japan to the states.

How many other signs does this zoo need Gentaro want’s to go. Now that I have said that it’s going to kill me to see Gentaro going 😭😭😭 and poor big man Kintaro.. This is what and how blackback’s say thanks for all your love but I got go and be on my own 😅 no honestly next Gentaro will start fighting with Momotaro. It’s the gorilla’s instinct and some stay in the family troop but they give complete control to the silverback/daddy but this is very rare.

The wound on his shoulder was from the fight with his father a few weeks ago.

Gentaro was separated from Genki at birth for several months because she hadn’t enough milk to feed him. I believe the separation affected their relationship. This troop unfortunately is dysfunctional.
Gentaro had his Mom and dad for 7 yrs before Kintaro came along. Gentaro if you have seen any video pre-kintaro is a spoiled only child and acts like one too. Stop using the 10 months that he had to be fed by the caregivers. They didn't shelter or keep him from Genki. Its not an excuse to act the way he does. He keeps challenging his Dad you can tell by Gentaro's posture and by his facial expressions when he is about to erupt, and Momo is going to let him have it one of these days and it isn't going to be pretty.

Gentaro does not mean to hurt his mom. To him that inter action is just a game. He likes to mess with Genki but not to cause any harm. Genki has no interest in playing, she just wants to eat and rest.
Thank you. It seems that many search for any signs of malice they can find. You see these harmless scuffles in all the gorilla families on TH-cam, as well as videos made in the wild. Now if something develops between Gentaro and Momotaro that would be another story and an intervention would be necessary. But this Genki and Gentaro thing is way overblown.
I think Gentaro acts out with Genki because his father so abusive and cruel toward him that it cause resentment to build up so he uses Genki as his scapegoat
When has Momotaro been either “abusive or cruel?” I’ve never seen him do anything that would be considered abnormal gorilla behavior. I think there is too much anthropomorphism going on in these comment sections. Just let gorillas be gorillas.

As much as I like this family, I think see his dad hurt his mom may have influenced hurting his mom as well? Learning from what he witnesses?
It's not unusual behavior at all for young male gorillas to get aggressive with their mothers. It happens with all of the other families, and troops on TH-cam videos. Even Rikki, who is 5 years old, gives Momoko, who is also Momotaro's mother, a hard time. It's also not unusual for the Silverback to go after their mate from time to time. I've seen them all do that, as well. It isn't learned behavior, it's natural for gorillas. People really have to remember that these are gorillas, not humans, and to tell you the truth, humans are becoming much more uncivilized than the gorillas that we all enjoy watching. Maybe we can learn something from them, instead of they from us.

@gregsutton2400: with what we know of Momotaro's childhood, the fact that his father died before he was born, and the zoo had him completely isolated from his mother by the time he was 8, I think he does remarkably well socially. Thank God he was paired with Genki as a mate. She is 14 years older than he, and guided him beautifully. He was only 10 years old, and had so little knowledge of the social ways of gorillas, and the responsibilities of a Silverback. He is still socially clumsy a lot of the time, but he is very protective of his family, and often shows gentleness, and love. They are a very special family, and I adore all four of them.

People have been posting this sentiment for at least 3 years now, if not longer. Yet Genki remains fine. Perhaps this behavior is simply gorillas being gorillas? Perhaps you see these scuffles in every gorilla family on TH-cam, as well as in videos made in the wild?
