This is a tour de force of editing. It is an amazing tribute to an incredible groups of films. While it does move fast and a lot of these images beg to be savored, it is fun to try and identify as many as possible! I've found most of my favorites but my eyes aren't quick enough for Weekend (Haigh), Mala Noche or Trouble in Paradise. Once again, this is an incredible video, thanks so much!
Thanks for letting me know which clip. Took forever, but I found it around 2:06. Wonderful video, btw. Gonna revisit it every time I see a new Criterion movie.
Far better than watching trailers. I've just mentally added 100 films to my wish list in the time it took to watch that. Now to find out what the films are!
Yep, it seems to be El Norte. It is Indian in the sense that its Mayan. I was interested when I saw the image because I have seen that Indian clothing close to where I live (Guatemala). Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. Hope to see this film soon!
@Renard...whoa...that is an incredible point. There are films with animated sequences in the collection, but can't seem to find an animated feature...perhaps they will hear the prayer.
Shadowsun, I think some early animation - which tends to get overlooked due to Disney, especially foreign stuff. Plenty of material for shorts compilations but also some features like Story of the Fox or Adventures of Prince Achmed (the first is unavailable stateside, the second I think is on Kino).
@Zero, it is deep in there because it goes by spine #. I can't bear to watch this any more times since I made it, but I chose the clip of the planting of the knife into the table.
Sure it's a shame, but can you not still feel the awe contained in over six hundred of some of the greatest films of the last century? Plus, I can't think of too many animated films that would really be very fitting for Criterion, since many don't have too much of an issue getting their own release.
Wow! That's impressive. Do you actually own all of these to have made that mash-up? I own about 120 Criterion films, and have only seen 30 of those. I've got a lot of watching left to do, and more to acquire.
I revisited Napoleon a couple years ago and it really is just an honest to goodness wonderful comedy. It’s nice, it’s not mean spirited. After the dance you have to wonder if everything he said was true, from hunting wolverines to being on deck for a gang initiation. Love that movie.
liveing in the uk means i cant get the Criterion stuff but there is still the Masters of Cinema which is kinda the British equivalent, but there are films in the video that interest me could you tell me there names? 0:21 0:20 1:01
Great video and editing but i didnt see close up and Design for living i couldnt find that movies? Im also want to apologize abaout the bad confussion that happend on the criterion video I never did any of the things that you put there I never did that your videos are the best and if you felt that my comments were in an aggressive way, it is not like that, my comments were in a good way, really sorry for the confusion great video.
I created a similar video last year (see my channel - it's '60 Years of Cinema in 40 Seconds') and then edited a follow-up featuring the titles (also on my channel). You should do the same, Jonathan - I'd love to identify some of the clips!
Here's an idea: Think of a Criterion movie and then play this video and try to stop on it. Say what movie you thought of and what movie you stopped on (and if you don't know what movie you stopped on, find out!)
The Criterion Collection would be aewsome if they would make DVD´s for all regions, im not american and I can´t get a single one of those. Wich is a shame since there so many good titles in their line up, and for a company that dedicates itself to restoring classics to present to film aficionados that is a real shame and very hypocritical on their part.
Ok, second try (first comment doesn't seem to have gone through, maybe because I mentioned Y** T*** by name? (If both go up, feel free to delete the repeat):

It’s been seven years, I know I’m not the only one who would appreciate a 2019 update
you're getting one. october 29th. produced by the collection themselves.
This is absolutely wonderful, Jonathan! I just want to watch it over and over and over again. Great clip selections, editing and music. :)
Thanks for letting me know which clip. Took forever, but I found it around 2:06. Wonderful video, btw. Gonna revisit it every time I see a new Criterion movie.

That was absolutely wonderful! Great job!
It's been clinically proven that I do not get tired of watching this.
When can we expect a sequel to this video?
October 29th, 2019. Criterion.com
@@kidziakandkeogh Sweet that's soon!
this pumps me up so much.
I can't blink because I'm going to miss a couple...help...
Brilliant work! :)
Someday...someday...I'll have them all...
This video is just amazing!
Yep, it seems to be El Norte. It is Indian in the sense that its Mayan. I was interested when I saw the image because I have seen that Indian clothing close to where I live (Guatemala). Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. Hope to see this film soon!
Love this!!
Spectacular.
How many of you are waiting on a Barnes and Noble package as we speak?
lovely stuff
Brilliant!
Amazing - well done! And thank you ;-)
I didn't vote for this, but all of my wildest dreams came true
@Renard...whoa...that is an incredible point. There are films with animated sequences in the collection, but can't seem to find an animated feature...perhaps they will hear the prayer.
Awesome!
This is fantastic! Criterion would be smart to hire you.
emotional.

I had to like avoid blinking when watching this because if I did I missed like 5 different movies!
Criterion includes Robocop and Clerks??
That's how you know they really are serious about movies...
@Zero, it is deep in there because it goes by spine #. I can't bear to watch this any more times since I made it, but I chose the clip of the planting of the knife into the table.
awesome.
Found a non-Criterion film amongst this clip-ology! The silent THIEF OF BAGDAD. I'm sincerely hoping this means they'll be releasing it on Blu, soon!
They should have made it 8 1/2 minutes
2:16
The Game .. I loved
Amazing job! Did you have to rip and convert every DVD in order to extract just a second of footage?
Sure it's a shame, but can you not still feel the awe contained in over six hundred of some of the greatest films of the last century? 0:49 the guy with glasses? What movie is that I can't remember!!
1:19- The Human Condition... Best trilogy ever made... Either that or Fire on the Plains (also very good film)
Wow! That's impressive. Do you actually own all of these to have made that mash-up? I own about 120 Criterion films, and have only seen 30 of those. I've got a lot of watching left to do, and more to acquire.
You should do they shoot pictures' top 100 films
@Manxer Life of Brian at 0:21 and Kagemusha at 1:01
Where's Lubitsch's Design for Living?
The Napoleon Dynamite music made me realize that Napoleon Dynamite is good enough to be on the Criterion Collection
I revisited Napoleon a couple years ago and it really is just an honest to goodness wonderful comedy. It’s nice, it’s not mean spirited. After the dance you have to wonder if everything he said was true, from hunting wolverines to being on deck for a gang initiation. Love that movie.
@@kidziakandkeogh Right On! Right on
Update? Soon? Please.
Wasn't that music used in Malcolm?
It hurts my eyes

that's more than one 'clip' from Orphée you have there at 0:22-0:23
Anybody knows what movie is the one at 1:37? I would really appreciate it if someone tells me :)
What I see at 1:37 is someone in, it looks like indian clothing, lifting their head on the left side of the screen. Is that the image you mean?
I only made it to a minute twenty four because it started to run all together.
I like in the UK and have around 70 Criterion Blu Rays. Get yourself a Region A player if you can. Masters of Cinema are great though.
ow my mind hurts
Okay, I've watched the video several times now, and I can't find my favorite movie 12 Angry Men. Someone help me out. :/
Haha that was pretty fucking awesome.
Great video and editing but i didnt see close up and Design for living i couldnt find that movies? Oh bud nah it’s all good. Comment sections are tricky reads, i more than appreciate your viewership and love for movies. All good in the hood pal.
Could you slow it down a bit? I got motion sick and had to bail out less than a minute in.
And yes I know they're by spine, but still...
Do you plan on updating this video?
Patrick Street - Music For A Found Harmonium
Was anyone else trying really hard not to blink?
Which movie is it with a man pointing his gun at the screen?
la haine
Consoles are always an exception for some reason. Even though the PS3 is region free game-wise.
Penguin Cafe is always good
Some iconic moments in there... But too fast! ;)
What's at 00:21 and 1:01?
In the comments is the link to where you can look them all up
Hey, I know that one movie!
I created a similar video last year (see my channel - it's '60 Years of Cinema in 40 Seconds') and then edited a follow-up featuring the titles (also on my channel). You should do the same, Jonathan - I'd love to identify some of the clips!

Region free players are practically everywhere if you know how to hack into them with your remote.
Buy a foreign cheap DVD or Blu-ray player.
It's El Notre. It's Spanish, not Indian

SORCERER!
haha too bad you wasted such a cool song to get tired of! I imagine it going far beyond the scale of an alarm ring
Rules of the Game
Big Deal on Madonna Street
Armageddon @ 00:15
I know of no way do do it on a PS3
No animated films. Shame...
Portnoy fans. ATTACK!!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
fortnite?
The editing is very disappointing. The shots last way too short to process in a meaningful way. A sickening montage.
