Horse riding is really expensive, and is the reason a lot of pentathletes switch to a different sport, but this sport was also a mistake in my opinion because not every city has this obstacle, and pentathlon isn't as nearly popular to make this obstacle in a lot of places
The lottery of horses plus the fact that the skills a lot of times where really low and horses suffered makes this an excellent choice. At least the sport is to stay in Olympics. Getting horses for events was very difficult. Best for everyone but especially horses.
The reason why this is happening, is because during the modern pentathlon at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, during the show jumping part of the event, a horse got abused by one of the athlete's coaches, for refusing to jump one of the gates, the IOC saw it and demanded the UIPM to sort this out or be removed from the Olympics. I am for this, I hate animal abuse in general, but I definitely don't want to see it in sports.
