Yes, it was. I went onto BBC Genome and searched Out of Africa (the film mentioned in the continuity) and found a listing for New Year's Day 1990. This episode aired at 7.35pm.
BBC continuity was so much more homely and understated back then... now it's all either shouty or wishy-washy weak-voiced announcers, wasting the licence fee on back-to-back trailers (adverts really), trying to outdo other networks with the CGI, long-winded idents with irritating music based on hippo farts, and talking over the shrunken credits about what's on next and/or going on about Eastenders later that evening... lately seeming desperate to flog that long-dead horse! Rant over :D! BBC4 is ok. Also, it's amazing how posh and R.P. the announcers were still sounding then.
Good old pre-exposed BBC TV, back when everyone would crowd round TV at dinnertime after eating their fish and chips. But know it's sarcastic crap with fake actors like Joey Essex ruling TV channels. Wish I was born in the 70s :(
@JustinsVideoCorner Sadly, people just don't care about this kind of thing. There is nothing that can be done about bad quality pictures and sound drop outs caused by old tapes but it is annoying when people can correct the aspect ratio of their videos so easily but just don't bother.
Everyone loves. Les. Absolute legend.
I was in bits when Les introduced Bonnie Langford as Kermit. Oh how we could do with him these days. He is sorely missed.
What a legend we still miss him today RIP 🪦
This edition of Blankety Blank was broadcast on New Years Day 1990 following the first showing on Network Television of Grease 2.

Les Dawson was just fantastic. They just don't make em like him anymore.
Good to see Alan Partridge making an early appearance top right.
🤣🤣🤣
Les died just 3 years and 6 months after this.
He was a very funny guy RIP
In 1991 Les hosted the short-lived game show Fast Friends.
Three years and 6 months is a bit premature for a grim reaper was a knocking post
1st January 1990. Thanks for the upload.
It's lovely to see Carmen Silvera in this, she was such a wonderful actress x x
Just because of her I am watching this :-)
Thank you....my favourite gameshow and my favourite self depreciating host.
Wonderful to see the late Mike Reid (ex-Frank Butcher, EE) here.
“I know it’s rubbish, but it’s British.” ❤
The legend that is Les Dawson ❤
