I am a Diehard Fighting Irish Fan, and of course it was a heartbreaker that we fell short at the end, ....story of being a Notre Dame fan: being told by the masses how you ain't good enough, your not a contender, it will be a blowout, & being reminded of all the games we lost (esp lost bad)...hearing the newsbroadcasters & papers talk shit & ridicule ND... Then Gameday ND comes out and plays with heart, & grit & you definitely, definitely know immediately the opponent really IS as good as they say, & the threat IS real & maybe even, the oh fuck we are playing a better team* but we believe we CAN beat them, if we can just hang on,...and the initial Panic of Despair turns to pause when we allow thoughts in our head that we Can do this, we Are doing this, at times
....it's like drowning & swimming at the same time, we don't have the Certainty or the Confidence in a sure bet but there's definitely a Spark Alive & the Fight is on & amidst a swarm of nervous, anxious energy Hope comes fluttering in!***insert repetitive Hail Mary prayers, superstition murges with the Supernatural & a constant stream of Praying & pleeing & Willing to Our Lady, Mary & (Touchdown) Jesus & calling Upon the Heavenly forces to blow some Luck our way
***....and then, just when we think we've done it,we made a Miracle happen, Reality Bites Back.
And the dream is crushed. And we get shellshocked when that heartbeat of hope goes flatline & the almost-victorious is not actualized....
Sooooooooooooooooo many close games lost in the final moments & so many GOOD games that get robbed of their merits bc it doesn't matter anymore when you got that L. ....
That's the life of the Irish - post 1988.
But damnit, those deep wounds fester a relentless denial of accepting that What Has Come Before will Never Be Again. (*Enter every Irish fans Belief in the Second Coming of our Revival & every new seasons firm belief THIS is the year we will be National Champions, yet again. Naysays be damned, theyll see...they'll see....)
But can I just say, if we have to Lose, this way the best possible way to do it.
Respect to Georgia. Respect to your fans.
You were National Championship GOOD. And despite being in a frenzy hostile environment unlike I've ever seen, louder & more intense than any game I remember us playing (aside from maybe Oklahoma 2012 game)- - - I nontheless liked the fans. They weren't rude/obligerent/disrespectful to ND. I left with an impression Georgia isn't assholes & arrogant like alabama. They have damn good loyal fans & i respect the way they played the game.
And I very much respected & appreciated the curtesy your coach gave our team when you came away with the win. He gave Notre Dame respect & acknowledged how good we played & even mentioned all the adversity we came up against.
To me, this game was epic. In an era of predictable easy-wins by "Top Teams" beating up secondary schools, & hyped-up big name conference- rivalary games that sound better on paper & in actuality, are lack-luster, & snoozers unless you happen to be the fan base watching (wisc-mi, anyone?)
This game was exciting to watch for anyone who happened to tune into it, it had the intensity & drama & fast-speed you'd expect of a Superbowl.
Both teams looked like National Champions & the level of athleticism, and endurance & strength was unbelievable through the roof. Coming from both sides.
No, we weren't perfect, and neither was Georgia in alot of ways. We were missing a good chunk of our strong spots on offence bc of injuries & seniors who graduated/left to go pro. ... Yes we had our share of fuckups. False starts (seriously, can you blame them?? It was louder than a warzone!) But that's not the point. You don't have to be perfect, or play perfect, or win perfectly to be Legendary. It's the amount of Fight you bring. The depth you go to, when your past-depleted & have nothing left to give, gassed out in the 3rd but you dont let that be the end of you.. ND defense had balls of steel in 4th quarter, and it was they who kept the dream alive when Georgia got the ball with 4 mins to go, & kept them 3& out. That's the stuff Titans are made from. And Georgia's defense was a swarm of hyenas Everytime Ian book threw a completed pass, that was it. Ball down there. There was no running, making 20 yrd sprints or fast dash-aways towards to a TD. They were there. Everytime. Some might critique the teams & the lack of Flashy plays, but I think that's overlooking the reality of it- two damn good teams gutting it out. It was real. It was raw. It was hard faught. It was what watching football should be, & damned if it wasnt entertaining!!! That shit kept you on your toes, not knowing what's coming next!
If we have to Lose, I'm glad it was to Georgia. You, unlike the rest, deserve it. You deserved the nation's spotlight on you showcasing your talents. Your not a Pretender like Alabama and Clemson who plays NOBODY til January.
You have guts. And you earned your glory.

Thanks for your summary and comments. It was probably the best game I've ever seen this early in the season. I was shocked at the viciousness on both sides, and impressed. The Irish's season is not over, not by a long shot. Man, two heavyweights just taking turns punching each other in the mouth and nobody blinked. Time just ran out. I'm proud of my Dawgs. Born, raised, and live in Alabama, but been a Georgia fan all my life. And after Saturday night, I think we got something for 'em this year, no stupid 2nd string QB magic, and/ or overtime chokes. (I'm not bitter at all, just still kinda disgusted.) Anyways, a rematch of the Irish and the Dawgs sometime in January would be plum beautiful. Best of luck to the Irish the rest of the season.

Thank you,I really appreciate hearing that .I have always felt that Georgia just always respects the opponent and they just sent to be more classy than the other s.e.c.schoold.its probably due to our program being mentored by Yale,Georgia has always had an ivy league feel to the university

Fans don't ever get stats but the Georgia fans earned four of the six false starts and cost ND four time outs.

Exactly! 4th and 6 inches on their side of the field, needs to be a 4th down conversion. Punting with a touchback is just lame. It was net 5 yards even if we didn't get the conversion. 50/50 chance to get the 1st down though . If we want to be an 'elite' team we need to be able to have confidence we can do it.

Never seen anything like that crowd. Absolute insanity. If that was every week UGA would be ranked as the most intimidating place to play in the nation.

UGA is definitely ranked as one of the hardest places to play in. Ranked as the number 2 hardest place to play in behind I think Clemson. I love it.
