In Australia, we put the bins on the grass between the footpath and the curb. And in my city we have General Waste every week, and recycling and green waste on alternating weeks.

In my city we have 3 cans garbage recycling and compost/yard waste we can also get extra manual bins but we have to pay for those to get picked up

We have 3 bins in my city, compost, recycling and garbage, compost is every week and recycling and garbage alternate pickup weeks. Works great.
