My first recommendation is..... Layers. Layers. Layers. Not only does it get really cold here, it also has big Temp changes in a day. You may leave in the morning at -20C and dark. By 3pm it is -5C and sunny. I suggest, in Winter, wear a T-Shirt and a Shirt. Wear a thin insulated Vest (say1/2” thick) and a Winter Jacket with a zip-out liner. When you leave Home, it is all zipped up tight. When going Home you can unZip to adjust to the “warmer” temperatures. A scarf is important. It keeps your neck warm. More important is... it stops warm body heat from rising and escaping. It should be 8” to 12” wide and long enough wrap around your neck, tuck in at your sides, above your waste. Gloves are only good to -10C. Below that, you need Mitts. They keep your fingers together, in one place. When standing outside on a really cold day.... Hot Potato. Get two 1” - 1 1/2” Potatoes and microwave them for a minute or two (to heat up). Put one in each Mitt when you leave the house. One of your layers need to stop the wind. Nylon, or Leather works. Not Knitted, or Fleece. Knitted hats look nice, but on windy days, they are useless. A Jacket with a Hood can work, over the knitted Hat, to stop the wind. Below -25C... Nylon Snow Pants stop the wind. Take them off when you get where you are going. Shoes need traction. On ice... try not to accelerate or change direction, or you will fall. Shoe need to be (somewhat) insulated. Tight shoes = Cold feet Extra socks help, but too many makes your feet tight and cold.
Thanks for the info. Hope we will be there next year with my husband. 🇵🇭
