Sherlock is known for doing things like that (2:24:20) kind of, meaning he has let murderers and blackmailers go (even though he hates both practices greatly). I do not recall him tarnishing another person's name or legacy though. If he thinks that the other man has no family that cares, perhaps that maybe his excuse, but we don't know that. I think the true moral ending is to have the fight with him and have him arrested... it is a false choice to think that you have to absolve him in order to recoup the securities when an arrest and a search of his property will render the securities anyway and the men will be set free. We just don't get to see it, if you want to see him being set free and getting his Father's property back then you have to choose the amoral or immoral choice which is weird. SPOILER DO NOT LOOK IF HAVENT FINISHED THE VIDEO: In the original story Cairns was arrested, even though it is known that he did it on self defense BUT he was blackmailing BP so he wasn't an innocent man. I do agree that this conclusion made by the developers make Holmes look unsavory and unethical. There was no need to let him go in order to have the securities. It is a false option. Do not know, but maybe they were setting Holmes for The Devil's Daughter and giving him amorality or immorality traits to make that story more believable. ???

FYI this is not the first game in the Holmes' video games series at all. Yes it is the DIRECT precursor of "The Devil's Daughter" but it is not the original nor first game. There are SIX games before this one and the first one is called "The Mystery of the Mummy" and it came out in 2002. If you like these games perhaps you should do all six before this as streams? It is an idea anyway. "Chapter One" is coming out sometime this year (it is the next video but a prequel in story).

The models are actually based on real people, playing these characters in the TV show of the mid eighties to mid nineties. The actor Jeremy Brett died so he could not complete the entire Holmes library of books and short stories. Funny that, David Burke was replaced, if I am not mistaken after the first season, so it is interesting they went with him and not his replacement who did the show for far longer. Even though they were not entirely faithful, they gave the books and short stories a lot of respect. Very cool for me as a fan of the show to see their faces as they looked during the show. It is obvious the creators knew and perhaps were fans of the series. These games also are somewhat original in their stories (The Devil's Daughter more so) even though in some cases they take pieces here and there from the books, like this first case, if you read the short story, if not faithful, it does essentially follow the plot. The series was set in Victorian times so again nothing to do with BC which is set in contemporary times. In addition, this is NOT the original game or the first game in these Holmes' video games series at all. There are six games before this.
This is a great game, surely I’ll have one, as a fan of “mr. Holmes’” books, this gave me a deep immersion in Holmes’ universe. Thanks for sharing this game!

I think you had the wrong moral choice in the end since both of the options - who you chose was guilty and the moral choice (absolve/condemn) did not go green :o great vid :)
So the night after I finished this case I check in on Centerstrain to see how he cracked the case. Cause i knew he would. Turns out..... I condemned not one, but TWO innocent men to jail. I went with the Two Murderers conclusion. It was the only one that I managed to make appear, despite having ALL the pieces of evidence.
Playing the game now and found this vid cause I'm stuck between choosing Neligan and Cairns. I'd have to argue the evidence for Cairns is so flimsy and they build so much around the kid that why wouldn't you choose him? We condemn Cairns simply cause the pouch was there without any investigation as to when and how it got there? It just feels the game deliberately leads you to make the wrong choice in this instance. There should have at least been more investigation/evidence/interrogation of Cairns to at least make it feel like you have a good reason to accuse him besides just the presence of the tobacco pouch. Such as when and why he was there.
Cairns is the only suspect that is actually a harpooner and the weapon used in crime scene was a harpoon. The experiment done to see how strong the suspect is to pin the victim to a wall using harpoon indicates that indeed Cairns is the murderer. Also it’s stated that if strength is not the case then the chance of a suspect to actually pin peter to the wall was slim. Cairns also bad talked about peter to holmes and that showed his motive towards this case! These are some insights i took into consideration when playing this case.

I've played Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the ripper, this and the devils daughter.
I may take a look at these games. I like to think and solve things. Plus I love things Victorian and Steampunk.
