  • Our Turkey strategy guide for the board game Diplomacy comes in two parts. In this first feature, we’re talking strategy with Matt Sundstrom who is known for his Crimean Crusher, or the Northern Opening. The second video features Edi Birsan to give you a thorough breakdown of how to win with Turkey.
Turkey was once considered one of the most desirable nations to play along with England and France. But these days, mere mention of the word Juggernaut, the Turkish-Russian steamroller, strikes fear into the hearts of the whole table, and as a result, Turkey has not been fairing well. Let’s see what we can do to change that.
We’re going to look at the traditional and the anti-Russian openings with a face to face player Matt Sundstrom from the Windy City Weasels.

Perfect timing then! We're releasing a Lepanto / how to counter the Lepanto video in the next few days. That might help as well.

Played against Matt many times in the past. Nice to see him explaining how he crushes w/Turkey (and frankly all his games).

After hearing him explain it, the opening makes perfect sense. I always thought of it as anti-Russian rather than pro-Turkish. I think that distinction is important.

Great choice on your expert. Matt is deadly when playing Turkey. I was glad he mentioned “where is your 18th dot” because while Matt is known for being a great tactician, it’s his strategic read of the board and how he plays the Turkish midgame that makes him so effective. I love his advice about waiting to take the Balkan dots after you have expanded elsewhere.

Matt crushed it for sure. I really like that advice about getting your 18th before your 15th dot. My only worry would be over extending your forces and having a wedge in between them. That would take some finesse to pull off.

@@LegendaryTactics 18 before 15 is always good advice. The stalemate lines are too easy. 15 may be too late. I like 14.

Thanks to you and Matt! I like to play Turkey I may say, guided by the same logic - it's almost impossible to knock me off the board, so I can talk with all my neighbours confidently )

Great video. I just soloed in my first Italy game. Your how to win as Italy video was a good inspiration. Btw. are there plans to continue your no surrender Russia campaign? If not can you at least tell who won that match?

@@LegendaryTactics thats good to hear. I hope the counter attack in the south will lead to the distruction of the German Panzer units.
