5 Stuttering Therapy Techniques

  • I wanted to share with you some of the stuttering therapy techniques that I use in my speech therapy sessions with students. I'm also pretty proud of how slow, calm and measured my speech is in this video and how I'm able to model that for my students who often will try to use tension to push through a stutter, instead of slowing down and easing into it.
    I'm filming in the car because my kids aren't on top of me and it's quiet! This should be called my "car series" because it's easy to prop up my camera at a good height.
    Please let me know in the comments if you have any additional questions for me. Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe.

    This video came at the perfect time! I’m amending an IEP to add a fluency goal for one of my little guys, and this video summed up all of the important areas to consider and target! Thank you!

    Hello Sarah I've been stuturing my whole life and everyday is so difficult ,you see my school is different everytime we'd have a test we would have to say our scores after we check out tests our selves and the teacher will write the score down,my school is very I don't know how to put it my school always makes the students speak whether it's reporting a project introductions,etc my school does these things very often so it's very difficult for me,My stuturing has been the cause of my depression and everyday made me cry because I know at school I'd have to speak out loud to everyone and get laughed at

      seek out a local state-certified speech pathologist. There are options and support for you. I do not give therapy to anyone outside of the state of Illinois, where I'm certified. Additionally, I am unavailable.

    I have suffered from stuttering all my life and I still remember children laughing at me at school, today I am 19 years old and I think I am a little better, stuttering happens to me when I talk to a new person or when I read a book at school or when I ask for something and talk on the phone, but at home with my family I find myself speaking normally
    Now I have become challenging myself and speaking up when I find myself unable to , I also have two brothers who are younger than me and suffer from the same problem, and I do not want them to live what I lived 😭💔 Thanks for your tips sarah 💞

    Thank you for sharing such helpful techniques please also tell about assessment how we will assess them and how we know the severity of stuttering and then approaches according to the severity. Thank you

      Great suggestion. I will add that to my list of videos I need to record in the future!! Thank you. Typically, I do an informal assessment because I haven't found a good standardized assessment for stuttering.

    Guys! I have a question that I'm not getting answers to. When I speak to strangers or friends, I never stutter. Everybody thinks that I'm a normal guy who hasn't stuttered till date. But when I speak to my brother and father, I stutter a lot and can't pronounce 3 words without stuttering.

    • @SarahWuSLP
      @SarahWuSLP  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think that can be the experience of some people who stutter. Ask yourself why. There might be some family factors and you might feel more pressure at home. Alternatively, you could feel less pressure at home and you "let your hair down." It's worth finding an SLP in your area who could work with you directly.

    Can stuttering be cured ?

    • @SarahWuSLP
      @SarahWuSLP  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, I wouldn't use the term "cured." It can be managed. Some children spontaneously recover at a young age. Speech therapy is typically focused on helping the client feel control over their stutter via the use of techniques and strategies.
