Marty Center Events | Touring Oak Woods: Jewish Material Culture on Chicago's South Side

In this short film, produced by Truth & Documentary in collaboration with the Martin Marty Center, the University of Chicago's Na'ama Rokem (Associate Professor, Comparative Literature & NELC) and Jessica Kirzane (Assistant Instructional Professor in Yiddish in the Department of Germanic Studies) explore the story of Oak Woods Cemetery, a sprawling cemetery the south side of Chicago steeped in Jewish history. This film was screened at the Marty Center's April 2024 event, This American Jewish Life: Judaism and Being Jewish in the United States, part of a three-part series created in partnership with the Greenberg Center for Jewish Studies.
