I have previously been diagnosed with something else and the “special person or favourite person” was something that also stood out. This is something that me and some of the people treating me don’t completely understand because often with autism people don’t necessarily include people as a special interest. With my previous diagnosis having a special person was more likely than a special interest and with autism many people aren’t aware that a autistic “special interest” can be a person aswell. Its hard understanding what is a symptom of autism or maby a symptom of something else since I’ve heard so many different opinions.

What you said about Autistic who have special interest on someone who are close to them is interesting.
I think the Autistic person might seems clingy, dependent, or kinda invasive, and might prone to be a victim of narcisistic/sociopathic abuse (if the person that they interested are narcisist/sociopath who have bad intention).

Very interesting thought… I know many who have ended up with narcissist types as they initially shower them with love, praise, and attention.

I'm not yet diagnosed with autism. But I always had intense and absorbing interests. Sometimes in people, stars, circus... I was deep into circus back in my teens, and for me the world collapsed when the circus would move on to another city. (I even drove there). Now at the moment I find myself obsessed with the construction site in front of our house. It's a big one with these immense long front excavators. One of the workers is more important to me. (He's really skilled, a joy to watch), and since November I watch and watch what they're doing. First thing in the morning, looking who's up, working. And I fear the end of the deconstruction. They'll soon be finished. I feel my world crumbling.

I suspect I was my friend’s special person. But now that person is her boyfriend and it has absolutely changed the nature of our friendship.
We were best friends. She texted a lot, we would hang out a lot, and it just evaporated and it has never been the same.
I don’t even feel like she likes me anymore. Hanging out with me is just part of her routine and her routine is sacred.
The special person dynamic can backfire and hurt not just the nd person but the object of their interest.
Didn’t know she was autistic when we became friends, so I just thought we had chemistry.

Becoming part of an autistic person's routine is one of the most insulting and dehumanizing things I've ever experienced. They don't even care about you at all for who you are, they just care about maintaining the routine because it relaxes them and makes them feel safe. Disgusting behavior

I think any person, autistic or not, can use someone for their company, support, etc. I think this is even more complicated when we are talking about where someone is developmentally or if they have associated conditions or a learning disability.
I don’t know what you’ve experienced Wesley but I’m sorry you’ve had experiences that have been negative for you 🙁

if i ever get a crush, they usually become my special interest. if i already have one at the time, i let go of my old one. it hurts me but it’s usually unrequited in the first place. it must hurt to feel like you actually have a connection and all of a sudden being let go.

People with autism have intense passions for the things that fascinate them. a quality that translates to being hyper-focused and constantly investigating their topics until they are well-versed in them. Additionally, they have a wide range of hobbies. #AUTISMWINNERS #AutismAwareness 💖

Thanks for this video. Struggled most of my life trying to please others. Now middle age and turned to spirituality. I love spending time planning my trip to Israel and learning about physics and chemistry.

I’ve been married 30 years! And I’m now finding out that my husband has has special interest ( females ) at work in all the different countries and jobs he has had!
That explains why our marriage has been tough.i sensed his energy and attention was somewhere else ,

I like to loose part of my identity.
There are lots of bad habits. Why not just keep the good parts diving into a relationship.
I looked up some ways to prepare myself for it: healthy food, sport, sleep and work.

Sounds a lot like BPD's "favourite person"? I understand more and more the confusion between BPD au autism.

One of my special interests is obscure media. Billions of people haven’t heard of Go Go Moba Boy or Superhero Roommate.

I always wondered why I was the only Naval Officer around that had a VAST collection of stormtroopers and GI Joe action figures.😅.
NB: I was diagnosed by my therapist during treatment for PTSD when I was 52 years old.
