I just read it for the first time, and my sense isn’t so much that it’s halachically problematic, per se, but rather that it’s filled with abstractions. “he will maintain his humanity even in combat” What does this mean? “solely to the extent required” By what standards? “and shall do all he can to avoid harming their lives, body, honor and property.” To what extent? This last line is probably the most problematic. The overall spirit of the document is moralizing clap trap designed to win the hearts and minds of our opponents who can’t be won over. And the fact that the language is so abstract, it can always be twisted into a standard such that Israel’s opponents have broad latitude to argue that we’ve failed to uphold it in any given operation.
As a long-time Christian Zionist, David and Jonathan are among my absolute favourite commentators on the current situation in the ME. I would like however to leave one comment of my own. Their argument is not really with Biblical Christianity, but instead with Christian Theology which for many centuries has dominated the Church, and has been formed by viewing the Bible (Genesis to Revelation) through a pagan Greek philosophical lens. (Think Origin, Clement and Augustine). Jesus command to e.g. 'turn the other cheek' and 'love your enemies' applies to our inter-personal relationships and NOT our conduct in wartime.
The sentiments of a flawed morality would prefer the suffering of war refugees caught up in Gaza than aiding their flight to safer neighbouring countries. Israeli leaders must secure conquered enemy territory as assets for the people of Israel, its soldiers, victims, settlers, friends and allies who wish to settle in New Gaza or other conquered lands. The Israeli military must facilitate the safe corridor for Gaza war refugees escaping over neighbouring borders. Not all Gazans supported Hamas. Those who do not must register their support for Israeli victory via a dedicated white flag app and enlist in national service. They may remain to rebuild constitutional Gaza together with pioneers from far and wide.

the promised land from god to the chosen people, why didn't god almighty give us a land where there are mountains water endless steppes where we could live in peace, but instead god gave us a land with desert no water and only war? Why God you who have created the whole universe all the planets galaxies and stars. God almighty why didn't you give us the chosen people a planet of our own that we could live in peace no neighbors just us the chosen people why?
This is an extremely important and critical discussion that must be promulgated.
Good conversation

Thank you for that. Do you recommend it or do you know a better resource on the subject?
@@fromrometojerusalem4255 sorry, what do you mean by “resources”?
Thanks Jonathan for voicing these concepts, it’s important that we are exposed to authentically Jewish concepts and principals.

Israel soldiers are worldwide already depicted as merciless, so they better step up the expectations?
I never have seen an army more 'turning the other cheek' then the israelis, by the way.

Define "Christian" David. There are Christians who honour Torah and those who do not, and I WILL split hairs. That is a Jewish thing.

Their understanding of Christianity is facile and superficial.
I completely disagree. Purity of arms is very Jewish.
