    📌 Video Description
In this video, Dave explains how to kick-start a freelancing career using your tech skills, especially focusing on data and AI projects. He shares a six-step roadmap designed for beginners to establish themselves as freelancers, drawing from his own experience of earning over half a million dollars from freelance contracts over five years. Dave emphasizes that success in freelancing isn't just about finding projects on platforms like Upwork and Fiverr but involves a deep commitment and the right strategy. He aims to clear up common misconceptions about freelancing and provide actionable advice to help you make money with your data skills.
Dave highlights the importance of starting with a clear business plan that identifies your core skill, whether it be as a Freelance Data Scientist, Freelance Data Engineer, or Freelance AI Engineer, and how to offer this skill as a service to potential clients. He suggests focusing on one primary skill and expanding your service offerings from there, including various sub-services that are essential parts of a larger project. This step is crucial for understanding what you can offer as a freelancer and how to communicate your services to potential clients. Dave also covers the necessity of doing market research to understand the going rates for freelancers in your field, which helps in setting your own prices competitively.
Building a personal brand and a professional mindset are key steps in Dave's roadmap. He advises that your LinkedIn profile can serve as your main platform for showcasing your skills and connecting with clients, negating the need for a fancy website at the start. Posting content related to your field at least once a week can help build your personal brand. Additionally, Dave stresses the importance of developing an entrepreneurial mindset to overcome self-doubt and the mental barriers that prevent many from pursuing freelancing. He recommends reading and self-improvement as ways to build confidence and the mental resilience needed to succeed as a freelancer.
Finally, Dave discusses strategies for finding clients and delivering outstanding work to ensure long-term success in freelancing. He points out common mistakes freelancers make, such as focusing solely on small projects or not effectively selling their services. Learning to sell solutions rather than just services, building a portfolio of long-term and short-term projects, and delivering exceptional service to encourage repeat business are crucial. Dave concludes by emphasizing that freelancing is a journey that requires hard work, persistence, and a willingness to step out of your comfort zone. For those who are serious about making a career as a freelancer, he offers a program called "Data Freelancer" designed to fast-track progress by providing guidance, resources, and a community of like-minded professionals.

Every now and then, amongst the petabytes of TH-cam and others you come across a hidden gem. This is one of them. I love the way you cover both the tech and the psychology so well. All very pragmatic and actionable stuff. And Psycho-Cybernetics... that book was prescribed to me many years ago when I was struggling with motivation. Time to order a new copy. Thanks again.

Hey Dave! Firstly thank you so much for what you do. I have a question though, I have seen discussions on reddit regarding doing data related freelance, and most of them said it hard to get freelance clients because the data is very important and confidential for any company, sharing that data to any freelancer might not seem like a good move.
I would like to your insights on this, and I would also like to know what kind of clients usually look for data freelancers (is it big tech companies, small company, startups, etc). Thank you

You're welcome! Sharing data has never been an issue for me. You can always sign an NDA, start with a small dump, or work in their protected VM environment.
Over the years, I have worked with companies of all sizes, from freelancers to enterprises. It's just about finding the right connections. Hope this helps!

Hi dave ,I would like to introduce myself .I'm from India and am from a non-tech/non-CSE background. I have never dealt with hardcore coding although I used softwares like MATLAB for my lab works. I have already completed my graduation in 2022 and now I want to start with AI/ML and do freelancing in it .I have been learning Excel and the basics of SQL for the past 3 months. Is having a software background necessary for starting out with Ai ? I really want to get my doubts clear on this .In india ,most of the companies or hiring managers only hire ai engineers with a software background. So, I want to learn ai ml and do freelancing in it .Please guide me ,it would be very helpful for me .I will look forward to your reply
