As a guy in my late 20s, I went to watch the two weekend rounds to follow Atthaya. But first, when I went to watch her warm up at the putting green, she noticed me, and immediately hid on the other side of her caddie to block my view of her, signaling loud and clear that she didn't like I was watching her. She basically psychologically projected onto me that I just wanted to gawk at her and her rump instead of me caring more about her shots and golf process. This kind of self consciousness/projection is not helpful to growing the women's side of the sport... is Thitikul's goal to have more geriatric people at the events, who certainly make her feel less exposed than when younger guys are watching her? As good a player as she is, she made it obvious to me that she didn't want me there watching her, and I already get enough women shunning me in real life, without spending $100+ for the day. It's like every woman thinks men just want to look at their bits and pieces, which is why they put their hand on their rump when they think you're looking at it. Women of course judge me based on my shorter height and clothing as they look me up and down, but I don't feel any need to somehow show these girls that I know what they are doing in real time. She's done this 2 years in a row to me specifically, mainly because I'm one of the only obviously single younger guys who comes out to watch the ladies. She especially, but all the girls need to get more comfortable having younger guys watch them at golf tournaments. We are indeed the demographic which need to play a significant part in advancing the LPGA to where the players want it to be. The most ironic thing about the situation is that I'm not even physically attracted to Atthaya, so her projections about my intentions are all in her little girl head. Typical cute young female behavior though, so I understand where it's coming from in those moments, but still, it doesn't make me feel like driving 1.5 hours each way early on weekends only to have a player signal she doesn't want me there.
Congratulations Jeeno Thitikul! To finish the way you did, shows you are a true Champion! 🎉 Bravo!
