(Former) Amazon employee here. Here's some input that I can give about the situation: Every warehouse gets its own set of generic pins that they can give out to their employees. The most common pins, to be exact. These are given out when it reaches a holiday/peak season, if the warehouse hits a milestone, etc. Then, there are the pins that are given out to certain people, like Employee of the Month, and, as you found, the Top Picker. Warehouses can decide if they want to use those generic pins they get sent by corporate, or they can try and make their own pins, as we can see with some of the franchise Peccy pins. I do not think these have to go up to corporate, because they are only giving out these pins to people who are inside that warehouse (I do not know much about that process, but I could ask about it). As for this pin, it was given out to an employee who picked the highest amount of packages of the belt than anyone else in their warehouse (which is pretty impressive, since, from my experience, everyone in a warehouse can hit about the same number of items, so someone would have to pick a lot more packages than any other employee.) Since they usually give these pins out once or twice a month, this is an extremely rare pin, since it was probably given out once or twice, period. That might be the reason why it went for such a high price on eBay: it could be one-of-a-kind. Also, if you would want to see some more cursed promotional Peccy stuff, let me know. I have a few things I could show you.
employee here, I believe this pin was fan made by a manager for their co workers. And I do know my warehouse is open for art submissions for pins, posters and shirts. What I believe happened here, someone submitted this design got approved without the higher ups knowing. And I do believe there a bunch of them out there, not one only employee gets a pin but many or hundreds. Never heard of a "one of a kind" pin and I have lots pin from my warehouse.
@@hydrochloric007 Amazon's a terrible company run by a terrible man that gives its works pin badges instead of decent salaries, bonuses and working conditions.
All of this is so damn dystopian. This mascot, when i saw it, my face nearly melted off, it's the peak of horrible corporate design. It's like a Minion, which were kinda genius, except it's got no soul. What else, a horrible hymn mandatory to sing every morning? The pins. Why pins? Does anyone ever want to wear a corporate pin? "Oh look i'm so proud of my overlords". Remember "Pieces of flair"? That being said many of the modified Packy into various pop culture characters are actually kinda good. Still not ever wanna wear.
On the topic of using Sonic without permission, has anyone noticed that the most recent set of Nectar Points adverts are blatantly using the ring sound effect? It's at least an extremely similar sounding noise. It's so strange and jarring to hear; it sticks out and it's really apparent.

Sega is surprisingly relaxed when it comes to copyright. There's a reason why you don't see fangames based off of Nintendo properties very often, yet with Sonic there's a huge community based around them. Amazon can get away with this, not just because they are a huge company that Sega probably doesn't want to trifle with, but also because Sega probably just doesn't mind. It helps that these pins aren't made to be sold, so as long as Amazon doesn't market these themselves and it's just the employees doing it, then Sega will probably just continue happily ignoring it.
Ok so... I have a new series starting on my channel called Merchandise Monday's. I think the pin set would be a good episode for that. So click the subscribe and bell icon because... We do it!
As someone who worked on a bunch of stuff for amazon in the past as an unofficial artist, I can safely say no, not really. I mean each FC is different but when I was asked to work on some avengers inspired artwork for new instructor lanyards and hi-vests. I was asked to make it similar but not enough so that we'll get in trouble with Disney if an employee decided to post it on facebook. A sort of "keep it in the company" sort of deal. Hell, a lot of the stuff I made is barely even showcased in my own FC. The last thing I made was a series of Peccy graphics in a Tetris theme to promote storage safety but despite given a tight deadline and making said deadline, I never heard back about the progress of that campaign.
i dont care if this comment is cringe but my first "real" job was amazon last year, i cannot describe how much i hated it and how much it drained me mentally, the surroundings were so depressing and i couldn't keep up with the pace of picking or packing, to see one of my favorite characters that is a form of escapism to me used in that way makes me feel genuinely ill, it doesn't sit right with me at all. i remember id work in the massive dark shelves in the very bottom of the warehouse on quite days or early in the morning the only person id see for a while was my manager who had a persona 5 wallpaper on his laptop he was nice, i did meet alot of nice people who were in the same boat while picking, packing was mind numbingly boring.
The situation is... if they aren't "selling" these, it's most likely legal. Giving something away as a reward that they made themselves, completely legal.
