My sister was an avid Sylvanian families collector when she was a little girl, she had a whole village that she set up in her room (complete with an AstroTurf sample that doubled as a village square). When I first saw these advertised on TV, I wanted one so bad. But because I was a boy, I was shy to ask for anything feminine. It's so wonderful to see this sort of video because it gives me all sorts of childhood nostalgia and it feels amazing to fall in love with something that I was always too afraid to ask for.
I can't wait until we can throw out the whole notion of "girl" toys and "boy" toys and just let kids play with what they want. But the upside to growing up, at least, is that no one can stop you from buying things that interest you anymore! Or at least watching ASMR videos about them lol

When I first saw these as a child (they were still called "Sylvanian Families), I was entirely fascinated and enamoured but I knew my parents wouldn't let me have any 'cause they were quite expensive. Later on, I found out that my Mom liked them too, buy wouldn't buy them for herself 'cause they were expensive, like I thought to myself then. Hopefully, I'll be able to buy some one day and my mom and I could adore/play with them together.
I have the same memory of wanting as a child, but it's so nice that your mum likes them too! I've bought two of the blind bag baby ones because they are about $5 here. I hope you'll be able to get some and share them with your mum!
This has very strong "buying from a collector" vibes, which would make for a really good ASMR scenario. Someone who used to collect as a child and has a lot of love for the items and can give detailed explanations, while also being able to do chitter-chatter and personal stories about the items and tea and the like because ultimately you're both here because you share love for the thing.

I remember being around 3-4 years old and being gifted a set of the babies for a birthday. I'm not exactly sure what animal they were, maybe a type of cat or chipmunk? I played with them so much I wore the flocking off on most of them. I liked to carry them around and rub the surface of them. later on in life I am now in the process of an autism diagnosis and I realize why I did that so much haha. I sadly lost them at some point and haven't seen them since. thank you so much for this video, it's made me so nostalgic and happy :)
This reminds me of going to my local toy shop as a kid and looking at all of the sets even though my parents wouldn't let me purchase them... the store had a table that was painted to look like grass and roads and each of the set were placed so it looked like a little town and I also remember playing with them and my parents yelling at me that we have to go... this brought back so many memories thank you so much Erin !!!💖

I love their little house sets! I recently repainted and sanded the doll house I had as a child and gifted it to my toddler. The doll house has been in my family for 50 years 🥰

If you bought them are you going to save them as possible future props? Or give them away as gifts etc? When I was little, I had a few bears of the Sylvanian Families. We used to have this toy store in my hometown, that was a normal toystore downstairs. The second floor was filled with glass cabinets filled with Sylvanian Families products and expensive, collectible dolls. The third floor was a model train store. It's now tragically an H&M Kids store. I deliver mail and I saw a little girl on my route playing with the exact ones I had. I loved that so much. I might have to see if I can find them.

I just have to say- this brings me so much joy! I just got back from camp and I had two "pet" field mice that I took care of there and they totally look like little calico critters! Btw: they were mom and son and I named them Alfredo and Marinara :)
The childhood memories this brought up for me were absolutely wonderful. I still remember vividly when I would go to the bookstore with my grandma and I would pick out a box of Calico Critters and obsess over them. Good times :)

A friend gave me the full kitchen when it came out. So, instead of the sand garden that some people have I have the kitchen rug set in a picture frame and I can move the pieces around for a few minutes and de stress! Works for me! Love this video!

This brought me back to when me and my brother were kids. I had the mouse family and he had the gray tabby family, and we elaborately decorated shoe boxes for them to live in, complete with furniture we made out of clay, pizza tables, and little boxes like matchboxes. I remember printing out a wood grain pattern and "wallpaper" and gluing it onto the box and feeling so legit! It was quaint, but so much fun. I remember as a kid if I did something well or it was a special occasion my mom would take me to Toys R Us to look at all the Calico Critters. We’d take our time and read about all the animals’ personalities. It was more about spending time with her fawning over them and not really about making a purchase. Although I did pick up a small playset once as a reward for something, but I can’t remember what I did to earn it. I had completely forgot about those times so I’m grateful for the upload. This was really heartwarming and nostalgic ^^

when i was a kid i had the red roof country house with the hopscotch rabbits if i remember correctly. i saw them at toys-r-us and got them for christmas after begging for them lol. i adored them and their adorable little house. everytime my sister and i played with them i would carefully set up the house to exactly the way i wanted and made sure she didn't mess it up. over the years, more and more pieces of the house disappeared and the lights stopped working. eventually, like all my other childhood toys, they were donated to another child to love and adore. i don't know where they went or who they went to, but i hope they loved them as much as i did. thank you for opening up my memory to these cuties, erin. i now plan on getting some more and getting a collection. this video was absolutely lovely.

@@malikaaween3710 When I was a child in the early 90s, these were way too expensive for my family to buy but they are beautiful. Years later I babysat children who owned different sets and finally got to hold real Sylvanian Families for the first time.
I would pay for more content of childhood toys being given so much care and love. This is just so precious and warming to watch, like an inner-child healing!
I love their little house sets! I recently repainted and sanded the doll house I had as a child and gifted it to my toddler. The doll house has been in my family for 50 years 🥰

My daughters love Calico Critters! We recently inherited a bunch of families and accessories from a friend whose kids no longer want them and my daughters have just loved them. When I hear them playing together, it reminds me of playing Beanie Babies with my own sister as a kid.

I just looked on Walmart and they have some for pretty cheap! One family was like $14 or something and a house was $28. Not the cheapest but still not horribly expensive :)

When I was little, I had a few bears of the Sylvanian Families. We used to have this toy store in my hometown, that was a normal toystore downstairs. The second floor was filled with glass cabinets filled with Sylvanian Families products and expensive, collectible dolls. The third floor was a model train store. It's now tragically an H&M Kids store. I deliver mail and I saw a little girl on my route playing with the exact ones I had. I loved that so much. I might have to see if I can find them.

I just have to say- this brings me so much joy! I just got back from camp and I had two "pet" field mice that I took care of there and they totally look like little calico critters!

The childhood memories this brought up for me were absolutely wonderful. I still remember vividly when I would go to the bookstore with my grandma and I would pick out a box of Calico Critters and obsess over them. Good times :)
I had these when I was little and I just realized the rabbits had actual names but my family decided “hey let’s name the 2 baby bunnies bratwurst and popery!”
These used to be my favorite toys as a kid. Something my grandma used to get for me and my cousins. I also worked at a toy store as a teen and these were always my favorite to look at in the catalog and stock on the shelves. Love this video!

@@ZealousIdeal2000 Most of the AC music used here is the hourly music; none of which have names, just the time of day each plays (6 AM-5 AM). It isn't the original used in-game, but I believe the one in the beginning is the 2 AM music from Animal Crossing: Wild World. :)

A friend gave me the full kitchen when it came out. So, instead of the sand garden that some people have I have the kitchen rug set in a picture frame and I can move the pieces around for a few minutes and de stress! Works for me! Love this video!

I still own so many of these, I have a huge house with all the little furniture and food and just all the cute things you could imagine and I would always love arranging them. This brings back so many memories!

This brought me back to when me and my brother were kids. I had the mouse family and he had the gray tabby family, and we elaborately decorated shoe boxes for them to live in, complete with furniture we made out of clay, pizza tables, and little boxes like matchboxes. I remember printing out a wood grain pattern and "wallpaper" and gluing it onto the box and feeling so legit! It was quaint, but so much fun. Definitely going to return to this video, love, the nostalgia and wholesomeness ❤🥹

I remember as a kid if I did something well or it was a special occasion my mom would take me to Toys R Us to look at all the Calico Critters. We’d take our time and read about all the animals’ personalities. It was more about spending time with her fawning over them and not really about making a purchase. Although I did pick up a small playset once as a reward for something, but I can’t remember what I did to earn it. I had completely forgot about those times so I’m grateful for the upload. This was really heartwarming and nostalgic ^^

when i was a kid i had the red roof country house with the hopscotch rabbits if i remember correctly. i saw them at toys-r-us and got them for christmas after begging for them lol. i adored them and their adorable little house. everytime my sister and i played with them i would carefully set up the house to exactly the way i wanted and made sure she didn't mess it up. over the years, more and more pieces of the house disappeared and the lights stopped working. eventually, like all my other childhood toys, they were donated to another child to love and adore. i don't know where they went or who they went to, but i hope they loved them as much as i did.
