As a long-time fan of the FWT, I'm getting very tired of watching extremely talented athletes get shafted by horrible judging. Toby Rafford won the Ski Men comp, and the only people who don't seem to know are the judges. Ross Tester knew he had been beaten. He was as shocked as the rest of us. Tester put his hand down on his second turn, btw. Guess you missed that? Toby and Ross essentially took the same line. Toby's was a bit steeper, faster, and capped by an off-axis double. Yet his line was scored lower? Puh-leeze.
I agree Toby should have won, but he went conservative and half as big on the first hit instead of a backflip off a hit that took out many other riders. If he had straightlined the same air Ross backflipped he would have won, easily. Without it, he should have won, barely.
@Joepvn agreed, but the biggest score difference was "line". They were both on essentially the same line. Fact is, they're harder on rookies, and Ross is a (great) FWT vet and had a wildcard. That's the real difference. Another rookie scored upper 70s and was clearly better. It's not rigged, but there's an increasing inherent bias. Meanwhile, some judges were new which gave me hope. That hope didn't last a single event.
Loved Toby's run! but to be the Devil's advocate, Ross had the tech backflip in sh*t snow at the top, held the grab on his spins, and opened up the winning line. Bender is the one who was robbed the most. That kid was on a different line, packed in more tricks, and was the only person to throw a 7. My top 3 was Ross, Toby, Bender, with mr smooth Ben Richards in 4th.
Great to see FWT back again! I love the follow along drone shots from behind of the riders, if possible, you should use it for the full run, it's much more immersive than the shot from far away.
Might be the only one, but I think Ross’s run was better. He went bigger and more technical up top, and as sick as Toby’s flat 7 was it’s on a low consequence hit, and in my opinion Ross’s top section out scored it. It’s the whole run, not one trick!!
Toby aired above the mandatory turning it into a double feature in the top section and got a fraction of the points for line score. Also had the fastest and cleanest top section out of anyone in any category which is obviosuly the hardest section to ski. Robbed big time.
love the commentators, as a skier blows up over big exposure "a little trouble with the landing" as they tomahawk down the hill.......I guess this is how they deal with the danger, minimizes really dangerous crashes
Wild scoring choice.. Toby had 1 more trick, did a double flat instead of a single, way more style all the way, and hit that first transfer with way more speed. The only thing I can see them liking Tester more for was the tuck and speed through the middle? His run was great but everyone knew Tobys run was better.
You can argue for a robbery, but it’s pretty clear that he dropped points for needing to use his poles to get up and over into that final section. If he had bombed it in with more speed I think he’d have edged it. That said, I agree there’s a case for a robbery.
Imagine not making any turns for the whole top section... putting a hand down that everyone else gets docked for but with your name it gets ignored. Easy win 😎
The ski men judging and scoring was inconsistent and made no sense. And as always the commentary and annoucners are awful just garbage it is more enjoyable watching with the sound off. Fwt get your shit together
Another year of FWT, another year of terrible, choppy, low quality drone shots that no one wants or asked for shoehorned into every run 🙄 remember when we just used the bottom cameras and things were fine? Pepperidge farm remembers
Please improve the framing of the wide angle shots! Suggestion: I'm not sure if anyone with influence over the filming and editing of these videos will ever read this but one simple change that could improve the quality of these streams/videos would be to fix the tracking and/or framing of the athletes closer to the middle of the screen. Either the drone settings while recording or the production and editing decision to have the athletes fixed so close to the top edge of the frame on the wide angle shots means we never get to see how far they truly travel in the air from the take off because it's always off screen by the time they land. [For example, Marcus at 1:51:44, the takeoff is off screen in half a second and the entire feature is completely off the screen before he even lands.] It's way better to see 40-50 feet more behind them than it is to see that 40-50 feet at the bottom of the screen. The viewer experience of seeing the entire cliff/feature take up half the screen and appreciating the athlete clearing that entire distance is one of the best parts of watching these events. It gives proper perspective to the features and the athletes' skills. The current framing is annoying and a disservice to the athletes and viewers. Or, simply have more dynamic and active framing with settings or an operator that knows where to frame the athlete depending on the predicted line and upcoming features.
Always gripping watching these events. Thanks! Also, please invite Andrew Pollard back to be an announcer someday. He was great last year!

Im not a freestyle guy, dont really like a lot of freestyle in the fwt. But even i will admit toby's run was the best run today
I wish I didn’t have school. I would’ve stayed up and watched it live
same
i did
Tilden back 360 was insane!
Please stop posting the names of the winners in separate videos.
Agreed!! I live in USA and don't get watch the event live and usually have to wait 24 hrs to watch it. Stop spoiling it for us!!

It's harder to do it as well, i think
Un AR, un AV et un latéral pour montrer la pente
2:05:43 Imagine if Tom Peiffer accidentally landed that wipeout, would have been the coolest trick in FWT history 😄Hope he's ok though 🤕

Drinking game: take a drink every time the male commentator refers to the competitors being compatriots or being friends
What a comraderie! I think Derek Foose is a communist deep inside

Toby Rafford 93.67👈🏼
such BS. WTF is with the line score for Toby. He blew everyone else away. FWT doesn't want to see freestyle??
FWT is dead
Yea the line score is random as fuck anyway. What even does it mean?
Easy there Idaho
Line score is separate from freestyle. It consists of steeper more technical runs rather than big airs.

Toby got robbed. Absolutely the best run of the day. I know judging is hard, but you guys messed up on this one.

Where’s Finn Bilous?
Took a year off, I think he got a juicy deal shooting with someone big. Might be Red Bull I can’t remember.
