No, absolutely not being selfish. We all deserve to live our best life and follow our dreams. You have already given so much to your family. Bear in mind you are bound by Schengen rules in Portugal for length of stay unless you apply for the d7 visa for passive income. But you would only do this if you decide you want to live here permanently. So maybe do three months here and see how it goes. You don’t have to make any hasty or final decisions. Both my parents were Irish & came to London shortly before I was born. Applying for it has been written on my kitchen chalkboard since December 2019 😂 My middle name is Procrastination 🙄 (Applying for certified copies of the various certificates felt daunting but I finally have them). I actually started the online form a few weeks ago, then realised that I need my British passport as I am 🤞🏻hoping 🤞🏻for a serendipitous short Portugal housesit to come up in the next couple of months, before I need to take a bit of a break for family reasons (there I go again 😂) - so I will now do the application in November. Can’t wait to finally have it 😎
After hearing you want to hear our opinions, here goes! Don't feel guilty for wanting to follow your heart. There may well be circumstances that seem like they are holding you back, but often, the reality is that it pans out better than you can currently forsee. Pardon me for sumerising what you've talked about -- as i knowt there's always more to everything, but here goes... Like you said, your family are part of your life, they are not you living your life, thats your job. But maybe the way you choose to follow your dream and live your life may actually help the rest of your family. Maybe it might be a reason for your family to go on holiday to see you somewhere they wouldn't usually? Maybe it might give other members of your family a different out look on life. Maybe you'll find a million euros on your land in Portugal. Okay, that last was a little more out there, but what im trying to say is that anything can happen that may make what seemed like problems actually be opportunities. If you have a gut feeling and excitement about something, follow your gut and heart and dont let your logical side of your brain keep you in comfort, thats its job, but not your souls, listen to what your soul says first, not what your 'logical' brain says later. Life throws us challenges, but if we didn't challenge the chalanges, we'd still be cavemen/women. I hope you get my drift, and im sure you will. Sorry for the random comment at a random time but i stumbled across your channel from the Portugeza's comments. I hope this helps you give a push in the direction that you want to go in.
