Thanks for reposting. Fun listening to Master Marsters’ lectures on the Bard. For a moment I thought my dementia was kicking in when he confused the surnames of our beloved young couple. Whew. Memory is still serving! 🙃

What a fascinating teacher in theater James would be! I admire him for ALL his distinct talents and yes I fangirl for him sooooo much! 🥰 But from a serious point of view, if I were a student interested in really learning the craft, I would so enroll in his class! Just sayin' 😉

He teaches this so much better than my high school English teacher.

The mistake about last names is fairly huge, but I love he didn't cut that away and kept it, to be true to us to the bone. You make a mistake, it's not deniable, you aknoledge it, you deserve even more respect for doing it.
About guns and how would Shakespeare write his play nowadays, I think Baz Luhrman's Romeo+Juliet absolutely nailed it. Even with the soundtrack. No one could beat Zeffirelli's film, but Luhrman is a visionary.

Thanks for this great video! However I will add that Tybalt is a capulet, not a montage

He confuses the Capulets and Montagues.
    Juliet Capulet:Tybalt
    Romeo Montague: Benvolio, Mercutio

Can I ask, for later in the series, how you feel about Romeo. I love the homosexual interpretation that was explored in the Luhrmann version. I studied it at university and the scholars looked at the vulgarity of his language when he’s talking about sex - body parts are a big theme across the play. I’ve heard you talk about ‘The sandbox’ and I’d love to know how you’d play mercutio.

Sorry. I meant Mercutio. The homosexual reading of mercutio.

Not Muppets pandemonium. Right. Columbine pandemonium. In Div School we called all that contextual setting sitz en laben. Totally right thinking to vivify these texts. Thank you.
