Cork probably hit more wides in this final than in any other final, but this wasn't because of poor shooting it was excellent marking and obstruction of the target by one of the greatest defenses with McGarry, Kavanagh, Hickey, Delaney, Barry and Lyng the best on the day.
A proper hurling match pulling hard on the ground with real hurls not like the snow paddles used today which make the limerick style game look like lacrosse.
@Conall General I agree with you completely! But I think the GAA are slowly trying to take as many skills of contact out of our game because it makes the game easier to play and promoting the playing of hurling all over the world and possibly encouraging the transferring of several hurlers here to actually go overseas and play games like Lacrosse and vice versa.
@Conall General Last years All-Ireland final between Cork and Limerick is unwatchable because too many players are more interested in positioning themselves in empty spaces allowing for more free scoring and it almost looks like a training match. On the day I enjoyed watching the first half because it was fairly close until Aaron Gillane scored the second goal, after that Cork gave up, I feel.
You can complain, but the Limerick team now don't hit away the ball blindly up the field, to be won by the defender for it to come straight back down again , Limerick would destroy these teams as they would struggle to get the ball back from them after they just hit the ball up the field to nobody in particular, the game has changed, eg just like it changed from the thirties to the nineties.
